Forum: Puzzle Bobble (SNES)

Thread: Different regions = different puzzles

Hey there @AdrianSimpleAdrianSimple. Sorry for the delay.

I have gone through the game on my NA cart, as well as reviewed the PAL run on Easy. I reviewed my NA cart on both Normal and Easy difficulties, and even swapped which player I was to see if it mattered.

I can confirm your findings that NTSC-U (NA) & PAL do indeed have different layouts from NTSC-J (JPN) versions.

Based on these findings, I'm comfortable enacting a Region Split for this game

Thank you for your work in this and bringing this to our attention.

Interesting. I'll take a deeper dive comparison with my NA cart through the week.

Thanks for putting this together!

Hi there!

I don't think there's been a comprehensive comparison of level design between regions.

Since there's only 1 PAL region run and it was done on Easy mode, I don't think it's a fair comparison of level layout to compare a PAL Easy to a JPN Normal.

However I do know that Easy Mode has a more forgiving number of shots before the ceiling drops. These couple of extra shots before the ceiling drops allows for more missed shots and recovery, which potentially leads to less continues, and less continues means more time save. So I think the difficulty separation is warranted.

I personally have a NA NTSC cart I could compare with but I would love to see a comprehensive comparison. If it's substantial, I'll be happy to bring it to the mod team for consideration

Copied from the FF1 & FF2 Discord:

"Hey everyone long time no see it’s me, FF1/2 old boy and leaderboard mod RoryExtraLife!

As we’re all aware, the pixel remasters are out today! Wahoo! Yay! So just one or two announcements regarding them!

The main one of course is that there will be an embargo of about a week for leaderboard submissions for 1 and 2. This is for a few reasons, main ones being of course so we can all enjoy the rereleases but also because we will need a bit of time to play the games, figure out what is what as far as the releases and determine any rulings that need to be determined. The timescale for this isn’t exactly precise but we’ll obviously keep you guys posted as and when there’s any developments!
Second, we’re going to be making sure that the rulings are consistent across both the FF1 and FF2 boards just to make life a little easier for us all as far as rulings. Not sure what’s going to happen with FF3 but there we go!"

Hi there. I've brought this up to the other mods. One of our goals is to eventually merge the Bust-a-Move and Puzzle Bobble boards together, so new category considerations are likely going to be slow.

You're welcome to do runs of them on your own in the meantime, even if there isn't a category board for it.

I would be in favor of an "Another World" category to mirror the Puzzle Bobble 2 (Arcade) board until we can properly set up a merged board.

As far as the subcategories by Route endings idea, I'm all for new ways to let people compete. But my main concern is board clutter and community interest. Might be something to propose in the Discord. If the interest is there, then I would further propose that a category not be created until someone(s) completes a run. A sticky'd thread specific to requesting new Ending categories could serve as the gathering point to post the video of completed run.

Yeah my choice of routing when I was doing this on my own was on consistency and ease of the stage. The Wide stages definitely are probably the only really slow stages of the route.

I forget why at this point, but I vaguely recall the clear obstruction bubbles playing into why I didn't do some stages. I need to do some more runs personally and compare on my end.

My route is currently BEHLQ?, but I chose those stages for my preference. There might be a faster route that we just don't know yet.

I've done some routing on my own (read as: Played all 27 worlds on Another World setting to figure out which ones weren't a pain for me to do lol) but still haven't done a proper run of it yet.

I'm getting back into Puzzle Bobble slowly due to an upcoming event. Might sit down and record a proper run afterward.

Only other things I can think to try is:
- In properties of Elgato in OBS, toggle the source input to something else, then toggle it back
- In same place as above, Disable/Enable device to reset it
- In Device Manager, disable and reenable drivers

Sorry if I can't be of further help

Just to confirm, you're not running Elgato's Game Capture at the same time as trying to Video Capture Device in OBS correct? If you attempt to capture in OBS while Elgato's native program is running, it priorities the signal to the native Game Capture, not the Video Capture Device in OBS.

I recall recent models of Elgato needing a USB3.0 connection to function properly, and as someone who went though quite the ordeal in updating and reinstalling 3.0 drivers, that's my first suspected area for why the PS4 would stutter (I never used my Elgato for PS3 though, so I cannot confirm)

If going for general-wise, it's always better to assume "Ask the game's community/check the rules."

From my experience with it, it's really only good for casual use and the convenience of being HDMI compatible. At the end of the day it's a box with several different hardware emulators in it, and I don't think they're running the most accurate and/or up-to-date emulators.

(Assuming Windows) Make sure the font is in the Fonts folder of your computer's C:// Drive

In Livesplit, right click -> "Edit Layout." On the bottom left of the box that opens, click "Layout Settings" and fonts will be in the "Layout" tab.

Fonts can be used for Timer, Times and Text

Before I replaced it, my last keyboard that I had for a good 8+ years one day just had one key stop working. And I found out because I couldn't type "!"

For some random reason, the 1 above the QWERTY just stopped working.
