Forgot to reply to this earlier, sorry.

We should have more than one person willing to submit to it and have a community discussion about if it's worth it first, but your bid is noted for now.

November 12th 2017,

Replaced the custom campaigns "Urban Flight" and "Detour Ahead" with "Dark Blood 2" and "Grey Scale". Both campaigns were replaced because of just awful RNG pathing things and situations that will cause an insane amount of resets for something pure RNG. Hopefully the two new campaigns goes much better and further changes won't be necessary.

Bill did the same thing I did after I told him how I went about it, starting with timescale 0.3 or so and moving it up by 0.1 once I got the movement three times in a row. I had no hope in getting the proper order of movement down by just going straight to real-time, but lowering timescale helped massively in spacing it out to learn what input happens when. In the course of that one night I went from not having a hope at 1 to topping out at completing it at 1.8.

Not sure if this would work for all strategies, but at least those with quick inputs definitely helps for me. Just move to another timescale quickly before you get too used to a low one and you should be fine.

An Expert Realism subcategory already exists on the L4D2 board here, https://www.speedrun.com/l4d2

A move hasn't been made on the L4D1 boards yet since it doesn't have Realism and it is far less run than L4D2 at the moment. Your best bet for the time being would be to check out the L4D2 subcategory for it until more activity potentially comes into L4D1 in the future and we figure out if Expert is worth it here as well without Realism being a thing.

To add to bill_play3's post two above this, I'll paraphrase some of what I wrote in that thread on The Turing Test here to make it easier,

It seems the current super mod sniped the game's modship, barely established rules and submitted one run, and then left the site quickly (11 months ago). They should probably be removed with somebody new and active established that want to create proper rules, like bill. Personally, as a long-time mod on the Left 4 Dead boards myself, I can vouch for bill that he's a thoughtful individual who has been helpful in discussions on that series in setting up rules including figuring out load removal (a big thing Turing Test needs cemented), so he's definitely a good candidate here.

Yes, the current super mod seemed to snipe the game's modship, establish barebones rules with a low-effort first run, and then leave the site quickly. They should probably be removed entirely and somebody new established. Also, yes, Super Mods are the only ones able to add or remove other regular mods, which is the only difference between regulars and supers. They can also promote others to super but they cannot remove that person once they are also a super.

Personally, as a long-time mod on the Left 4 Dead boards myself, I can vouch for bill that he's a thoughtful individual who has been helpful in discussions on that series in setting up rules including figuring out load removal, so he's definitely a good candidate here.

Wonder if I should post this in the main site thread, not sure if they will come in and read it here or not...

Hello new person! You can join the L4D Speedrunning Discord and see if anybody there is interested, it's where we all hang out. There is a Co-op channel you can write in, and also ask any questions about how to run the game if you have any.

Added language near the top of the rules that each individual campaign must be run continuously in a single server. Since the map command is allowed, this prevents abusing that command to launch a new server between levels to restore your health to full (and any other abuses we may not even have thought of).

Minor rule addition that you cannot switch Realism mode on or off during a run, you must commit to it when you start.

August 20th 2017,

Big rule changes regarding addons!

Previously, all addons were banned except for survivor models, gun textures and models, and HUD elements (excluding the item radar). After some careful thought and discussion, the trigger has finally been pulled on banning the rest of the allowed addons listed above for many reasons such as the fact that a big, colorful survivor can make it easier to see a teammate stuck or specialed, you could change the grenade launcher model to make it easier to see (which is very relevant to co-op now), and so on. The rules now state that all addons are banned outright, which is far more simple, fair, and vanilla.

Further updated that section to now state that a live recording is required for all submissions (not a recording of demo playback) so that it can be confirmed no addons were used. This doesn't change any way we've been recording our runs for months, and prevents future abuse of hiding addons behind demo playback.

Added a list of allowed console commands that contains map, viewmodel, glow commands, and network commands, so it's clear what can be changed. More may be added if I forgot about any, but as of this writing that's what is on there.

July 9th 2017,

Added a new game version to the versions column, 2.0.7.5. This version is used for some changes in Dead Air and Cold Stream.

Changed up how the Fortnight Challenge category is displayed. There are now three, Fortnight Challenge (Unique), Fortnight Challenge (Stayin Alive), and Fortnight Challenge (Dash). Unique is for all mutations which use regular, tweaked gameplay and are on whole campaigns. Dash is specifically for maps using the Dash gametype. Stayin' Alive is specifically for maps using... well, guess. This sets it up in the future to add new Dash and Stayin' Alive maps easily, have proper Solo and Co-op subcategories which is much cleaner than before, and most importantly lets only Stayin' Alive use the reversed timing, where longer times are better. The two Fortnight Challenge categories which are currently inactive every two-week period will be moved to misc (currently Stayin Alive and Dash).

I probably should have replied sooner for an official thing, but rskiller covered it well enough already. When you submit your run just be sure to select the correct platform you're playing on in the platform dropdown.

I haven't tried load removal on consoles, but the loading icon is in the corner so it should work the same. You can watch the load removal tutorial here to see how it's done, http://www.speedrun.com/l4d2/guide/y3so9

June 20th 2017 (ish),

It is the end of an era. Really, it was a long time coming, but after the Fortnight Challenge's Blastoff category was run, the realization came up... this mode is really cool and changes the game in a very different and interesting way, too bad Last Man On Earth is the exact opposite. We discussed it for a while, and the majority, as well as some of the top record holders, were behind replacing the LMOE miscellaneous categories with Blastoff, which put the nail in its coffin.

LMOE was a very uneventful, boring mode that only detracted from the speedrun, and was a glorified walking simulator. Nobody actually said they enjoyed running it, nor had interest to outside of purely to compete on a leaderboard. The only real reason was for "practice" before playing a real mode, but there's also the fact that practicing without any of the enemies present in a real run is a dangerous way for new players to pick it up. Besides, the same environment to practice tricks can be done easily with director_stop and the like.

There was no reason for the mode to continue, and with the introduction of Blastoff which generated some excitement to run since it's an entirely new way to path and play the game, it has replaced LMOE. The Full-game Leaderboard now has Blastoff Main Campaigns and Blastoff All Campaigns miscellaneous categories, and the Level Leaderboard now has a Blastoff miscellaneous category.

Added "thirdpersonshoulder" to the list of banned console commands. I forgot about this ages ago, apparently. The thirdperson command is protected by cheats but thirdpersonshoulder isn't, nice consistency, Valve.

June 13th 2017,

Added a small bit to the co-op rules for Main and All Campaigns that states only the runners present at the start of the run and who completed at least one whole campaign can be given credit for the run, and the Co-op category for individual campaigns states the same except instead of one whole campaign, it says for the majority of the campaign's duration. This was made after a discord discussion revealed that somebody could join for 5 seconds and be given credit, which would be pretty silly. This should avoid all silly situations just in case.

After some thought and a vote, Yama has been removed from the boards for being very slow and uneventful overall, and has been replaced with Detour Ahead. Urban Flight may also need replacing as cracks have shown in that campaign as well. To be continued...

With a 6/2 majority it's clear Yama wasn't the best candidate to speedrun, so its fate has been decided. Also with a majority Detour Ahead was voted as the campaign that most would like to see replace it, so we'll go ahead and do so. Thanks to all for their responses, as always.

Thread: Help decide Yama's fate!

Started by: TheMasterTheMaster

It is time. The custom campaign categories were worked on a while ago, and although I feel good picks were made overall, Yama turned out to be quite long and somewhat empty in the middle section. This thread is for discussing if Yama should be replaced before the custom campaigns are locked in and the full-game version of the category is created (which will be directly following this). The decision will not necessarily be made by a majority vote. I am looking for opinions to help me decide what to do with it, and also to decide what it will be replaced with.

When you submit your opinion I ask you to please not do so purely based on any time you have invested in practicing it (hardly anyone has) nor consider the two runs up already. Try to impartially decide based only on its merits of being speedrunnable, whether it's something you want to go through, if it has enough tricks, the length, and so on.

You can write any opinions down in this thread, but the priority is to vote on it in the following form so it's all neatly collected in one place, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeZpH3GjpnREGsD-L8FoZ8OhpgxKAEiPxkrQloqT8ak2Ch3sA/viewform

I encourage you to crack Yama open and try it before submitting your opinion, as well as trying the other campaigns that could replace it if you'd like to. You have until this time is up! http://itsalmo.st/#timetodecideyamasfate_mvk09
