Forum: Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Thread: Why is "Very Hard" required for Any%? Started by: |
Any% has a bit of a different meaning here than it does in the other games in the series. In the other games, it usually means any difficulty / any tower. Here, it means you don't have to collect all abilities or defeat Demon Shinnok. For what it's worth, I was taken aback by the difficulty requirement at first too. Then I ran this game last year on both difficulties, and honestly, "very hard" didn't make this already ridiculous game any harder. |

Forum: Primal Rage Thread: Arcade versions? Started by: |
Hey! I used to have physical boardsets of the 1.7 version and the 2.3 version. It's been so long since I've played 1.7 on original hardware, but I remember there being differences in some of the fights. For example, there's an easy cheese method for beating Blizzard on max difficulty on revision 2.3 where you can low kick him repeatedly and win. I don't think that cheese was possible in 1.7. If I remember correctly, there was also something in 1.7 where the characters can land in mid air and stand up, which really messed some of my 2.3 patterns up. It has been over 10 years though, and I could be confusing some of this stuff with the MAME bugs... The game runs differently in MAME than it does on hardware. It always has. To be honest, the game should probably have a category separation between emulation and real hardware. I was waiting till I got another arcade machine and started running this again before addressing it, because like I said, I can't remember the fine details. Bottom line is 1.7, 2.3, and emulation all play differently enough that the AI patterns are different and you will need new patterns for each version. I also think there's a rare Japanese version of the game which contains even more differences. I haven't played it myself, but I heard they installed it at Galloping Ghost arcade... Just something of note. As for the current category, I think the idea was to combine 1.7 and 2.3 and let the runner decide which revision better suited their needs. That's what we do over at the MK leaderboards, and it's worked out well. Saves us from chopping the main category into several subcategories of subcategories. |

Yeah, we just need to create a new subcategory. Sucks cause we just removed one. Lol. Probably have to move all the runs too. |

I have some Hard Mode runs in my Twitch backlog that are ready to go. I'm cool with it being it's own category or just adding it as an additional variable and listing it together with the Medium difficulty runs. |

So basically a "purist" category is being proposed? hm... I don't completely hate the idea, but I think the community for this title is a bit too small now to cut categories up to this extreme. I certainly worry about the likeliness of attracting new runners to this board, and I think the current glitchless category is a good "sweet spot" for that now. Things like damage boosting and the lighting pole skip are things that a newcomer could catch onto pretty easily. For real though, this game is pretty jank at times, and possibly incomplete. It's practically begging us to play it in weird ways. I think the only lines in the sand we can really draw at this point are "Major Exploits" and "Minor Exploits." And the minor exploits have always felt like part of the game to me. I say let 'em fly in the glitchless category. |

Forum: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance Thread: Konquest Category Started by: |
It's not out of the question. I just never thought to do it because the Konquest in this game isn't a 3D Action/Adventure sort of deal like it is in the other two. I'll ask the guys about setting one up. |

Hey @Epica, I'll admit I've grown fatigued with modding some of these games. I have some good help with the older games in the series, but I'm pretty much on my own with 5 or 6 of the later ones. I don't check the MK forums nearly as often as I used to, since we have the Discord server now. I check that almost every day, so it's a much better way to get a hold of me. Anyway, I could really use some help ironing out the rules and approving runs in the 3D-Era MK games. I'm cool with making you a mod, as long as you join the discord server first and discuss any rule changes with us there. Here's the link: https://discord.gg/KegvZpv Sorry about the tardiness my dude. |

Forum: Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Thread: Arcade Leaderboard Confusing and a glitch / bug that affect speedrunning. Started by: EpicaEpica |
I think I'm with Kromer on pretty much everything he said in that last large statement. I'm not sure I understand the argument against death traps. Sounds like they do your run a favor either way. I understand why we would prohibit fatalities... or maybe encourage fatalities? I kind of like the idea of manipulating the timer, but that's just me. As for IGT, the big reason I've tried to avoid it on these 3D-era games is because of the loading times. They're all over the place, depending on the hardware. We can do the "with loads" / "Without loads" timing that I've seen on other leaderboards on the site, if that's what people really want. It's a lot of work though, for both the runner and the mod. |

Hey Epica. You raise some good points. The timing method for these 3D-era games is weird, but it's always just... worked. Honestly, I've never had anyone question it before. I'm open to trying other timing methods, if it would smooth things out and balance things. I kind of like Kromer's idea of manually timing the final boss fights in these games. |
Forum: Mortal Kombat: Deception Thread: So, explain me the problem here Started by: |
Will gladly explain it. From about the 2:50 mark in your run, the whole game is running in slow motion. It doesn't look like drop frames but instead looks like it might be an issue with your emulator. Although, huge frame drops would also get a run rejected. I've lost 2 of my runs in the past due to frame drops. It happens Kromer. I'm sorry. I hope you get the technical issues worked out. |

Haha, no, please don't submit to the PC 1on1 category. I just went and removed the run on the board. Not sure how it got there. I'll talk to the other guys about another Any% category. Most of the community aren't big fans of those categories. |
