Thread: Console / Emu / Region seperation?

Like for example i wasnt specifying speeding up things or cheating just basically saying that emu is always for fastest for any game, and NTSC will always be faster than PAL no matter the game

Hello! Its amazing to finally see die hard trilogy up on the website after all these years!

Just questioning why there is no separate categories for console and emulation?

Just cos emulation always runs faster than console and when it comes to regions, you might already be aware of the speed differences between 50hz PAL and 60hz NTSC.

Cheers for adding the game!

Love this game!

Thread: Do we HAVE to play on PsxFin 1.13 emulator?

The PS emulation category should be like RE1s Emu category, Duckstation and legacy,
reasoning behind this is because ps1.13 is terrible at emulating PS1 games. It looks bad and plays bad, it sounds ok though (mostly)

The top runs on each scenario were done on a really old version of ePSXe which runs considerably faster than ps1.13 and the updated ePSXe emu's which results in massive time save due to loading times alone.

RE2 on Duckstation seems to run really well, have tested a few times myself with decent results in gameplay and all round decent emulation, with the chance of upgrading textures to make it look just like PC if you can't handle old graphics.

Again Duckstation runs slower than PS1.13 but then again you could just crank up the fast disc speed without anyone even knowing cos theres no rules specifying any settings compared to the RE1 board.

PS Emulation categories need updated rules after all these years cos its just sitting there collecting dust

In Test Drive 4 you are allowed to do runs without traffic and cops, just wondering if i am allowed to do the same here? Thanks 🙂

I think its a great idea, RE1 and RE2 Zoolander were great fun to do, so why not add in on here too? Would make sense to do so 🙂

PS3 and PS5 will be a seperate category altogether which will be a PSN category cos again PSN is different from EMU and Console.
Its definitely worth seperating them all because they are all different

EMU
PSN
Console

NTSC and PAL are the obvious ones being different.

IMO it doesnt matter how small a leaderboard is, it still has to have seperate categories 🙂
I totally understand that not being many runners to keep things altogether but i think things should be set up properly so it keeps things right for the future.
With DD being a downloadble game off PSN on PS3 & PS5 there should be another category for PSN.
Thing is with Emu, console and PSN if you played them all side by side and let them load and go onto the title screen they would all be out of sync and after a few minutes all 3 will be playing at completely different times.
When it comes to Playstation speedrunning console and emu should be kept apart in all games not just this one.
Just means when it comes to console the optimum way to run a game is NTSC, so if any PAL runs exist, NTSC will be far superior.
DD1 runs in 25FPS on PAL and 30FPS on NTSC.
Just makes PAL runs obselete
Doesn't make it too bad cos most games during the PS2's lifetime were PAL60 so everything was the same speed by like 2002/2003. But everything prior to this had the speed issue

IMO emulation and console should always be separate cos they are different. DD2 boards should have separate categories but they don't. I did request for it to get changed but no joy.
Emulation will never be the same as original hardware. I think there should be separate categories for emu and console for every game not just this one 🙂

Hello, i've recently picked up DD2 for my Japanese PS2 (SCPH90000)

I used to run this using the ps1.13 emulator but from my experience from speed running emu and console is that ps1.13 runs a lot faster than console when it comes to loading times.

A lot of the times when it comes to Emu, it will load faster than console.
I've recently submitted one run on console but i still think ps1.13 has the advantage of faster loading times cos it seems to load ps1 games stupidly fast in comparison to a PS2 with FDS.

Just wondering if it would be possible to have separate categories for Emulation and console 🙂

Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time 🙂

They should be separated cos RE2 American runs way faster than Biohazard 2 loading time wise, only with Leon though, its as if they started optimising loading times with Leon and ran out of time with Claire. PAL and american RE2 are the same, its only Biohazard 2 thats different. The biggest difference is that in RE2 the zombies can engage an extra level of speed which makes some dodges impossible that were consistent in Biohazard 2

I think a recent update has improved the loading side of things, previously it was a little slow. Now its pretty good 🙂 Rules are cool how they are now, it was just my original run was done on the out of date duckstation where everything was loading slow adding on IGT compared to more recent runs.

Ive just done a retry and the game is now loading faster, by the 1st split its now showing a -25 and the game is actually loading how it should be. Maybe a recent update has fixed it. This is the 1st time trying it since submitting a run, cos after the yet... it loaded instantly.
So aye a recent update must have fixed something along the lines which is nice. It says in the rules to show the FPS though? Doesn't mention anything about game rate

So with the settings, whose run is correct with the speed? I'm happy to delete the run to change settings to what they should be set at. But i don't know who stands correct. Cheers! 🙂

Next to the speed at the top right, mine avgs around 60, Rads is 30? I think thats the culprit to loading times, erm, does anyone know why or what it is exactly cos i don't know who to ask about this emulator cos i'm not sure who tested it before putting it up on the boards. I would like to change it to 30 to match his, and retry it. I was wondering why it was loading so damn slowly like

Quick one, the legend Rad Shaz has submitted a Duckstation run, but the loading times are faster than mine for some reason. A good example of this is when the press go on the splits after when it says 'yet...' in the main hall. On mine there is a long black screen for a good few seconds and Rads run is instantaneous. Not too sure what you can do to check settings and stuff but our two runs are completely different with the loading times, hence a massive time difference in the splits and total time.
If anyone's familiar with Duckstation and can shine some light on the situation that would be great cos i'm kinda stuck

Duckstation is great i highly recommend it. And the graphical enhancements you can add to the games is incredible. Some games benefit from this feature massively and it doesn't affect the performance of the game either. With RE it makes the character models, enemies and key items look incredible! 🙂

Duckstation runs pretty slow in comparison to an OG PS1 let alone a PS2 with fast disc speed. With games on Duckstation that don't require the game to load every 10 seconds or less it runs great, but games like RE with it having to load every single screen transition and door sequence the emulator really struggles with loading times. Even with Dino Crisis 2 its very slow. Otherwise Duckstation runs great, input response is very good. But the inconsistency of the loading times does take a few days to adjust to if you are used to either OG hardware or the legacy emu.
With the skip you are talking about, might be under the 'Major gltiches' category instead of the 'No major glitches' one but i'm not too sure cos i havn't heard about the acid skip before,
Hope this helps you 🙂
