Forum: Quake II (PC)

Thread: can we please have ILs

Started by: FioresaFioresa

Nothing stops you from doing other IL runs. If there is enough interest we can also put up leaderboards for those, yes. However, ILs in Quake 2 aren't all that well defined due to multiple exits and spawn points on many maps. So not quite sure what you have in mind. But if you come up with something cool and there is interest then sure.

If someone does a run and the game is not too different from the PC version we could consider it.

It does run fine from CD on my Win10 system. During the installation I had to wait for a long time at some points, but ultimately it ended up working without any problems. A few things that sometimes help that you could try:

- Instead of running the Autorun.exe or Setup.exe in the main directory of the CD, run the Setup.exe that is inside of the "Setup" directory
- Run the .exe in compatibility mode, for example WinXP
- Copy all files from the CD onto your drive and then try executing the Setup from your local drive instead of from the CD

I don't think there is a way to buy the game first hand on platforms like Steam, just like the other Star Trek games by Activision. I believe there were some licensing/legal issues at some point.

If you are using Speed Academy you should set it to "Speed Academy, v0.5" instead

Thread: RTX wr?

Ok this is a bit funny. This guy took the demos from the segmented record (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjkLMKgIlG0) and recorded them with the rtx client. Unfortunately he was too stupid too keep the correct map order while putting together the segments. There is a map missing at 2:40 which is instead wrongly inserted at 2:53. Same happens with guard house and torture chambers. Can't be bothered to watch the rest, but he probably fucked up all following maps where map order isnt quite clear from just the map name.

An rtx category does't seem to make any sense to me, it does not seem to change the game at all. If you want to run with worse performance using the rtx renderer be my guest, I don't see why that would exclude you from the normal leaderboards. Maybe I am missing something though, open for other opinions.

Look for it in "Control Panel -> Programs and Features" and uninstall from there maybe. I feel like you should still be able to install it, even if it thinks it's already installed by launching the setup from the CD manually instead of going with the Autorun program. The current version introduces weird changes like changed damage values for ion blaster, those worker guys behaving differently and plasma climbing with ion blaster not working anymore... Here is the installer for an old version that Dekonega gave me, a community manager for the 1.3 project: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1N2xFar7jzxSM2RVDaWbORqKGNLdE6GwA

Nice consistency Raven... "NYC2" is actually "nyc2" in lower case, shouldve worked if you put that in lower case in there. That would be a bit stupid though, so i updated the thing to be case insensitive on the map names. Tell me if that works.

Hm yeah i noticed that too, but the actual loading does start seemingly a bit delayed, so that's what it's looking for. It is the same way i do it in many other Quake engine games. I suppose some further checking if this delay is consistent for all runners would be good, if it isn't i can try to find a way to exclude that delay from Game Time aswell.

Brainfluid and me did a couple of runs of this (see which is our personal best for instance). However we don't really consider it a competitive category, as far as we know no one else has done this run. I guess we could think about adding it as a misc category, should there be more coop runs happening.

I have no go-to solution for bad performance in windowed mode. That being said, updating JoeQuake fixed some performance issues for me back in the days, so make sure you got the latest version (http://joequake.runecentral.com/downloads.html). Alternatively you could try NeaQuake (https://github.com/CRASHFORT/NEAQUAKE/releases). Also make sure your video card drivers are up to date. That's all i got for now, good luck.

Sounds like Stuubgards config was overwritten, meaning that his aliases (+primary etc.) were cleared. If you want to make sure the game doesnt temper with your config you can set the file as write protected for example.

Thx for the explanations, that cleared up a lot of things. How about switching the BYOC area with the 4xHD 4xMonitors 2xCRTs stuff in the center to have BYOC and Dreamhack less separated?
