Hi guys iā€™m currently doing my Year 12 research project. My chosen topic is on Speedrunning. I have a few questions that I would like ask.

These questions are

What speedruns have you personally attempted?

How long have you been speedrunning for?

What platform do you use? Do you use any specific equipment or software?

How do you prepare for a speedrun?

How do you stay composed during your run? What do you do if you fail?

How seriously do you take speed running?

What do you do in emergency situations for example toilet/snack breaks?

Your help is really appreciated.

What speedruns have you personally attempted?

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth and Afterbirth+, as well as moded versions
Steamworld Dig
A Link to the Past randomizer
Secret of Mana (2018)
The Age of Decadence

How long have you been speedrunning for?

4 years give or take

What platform do you use? Do you use any specific equipment or software?

PC, OBS for capture/streaming

How do you prepare for a speedrun?

I often have a coffee I feel it helps.

How do you stay composed during your run? What do you do if you fail?

Trying to stay focused. I tend to stay away from streaming those days as the chat is a distraction to me, I don't know how people deal with this. But it's also nice to have people to speak with during runs ^^ I also like to have music it helps me focus, and hearing the same game music for the 100th time isn't very interesting. If I fail I reset, take a break or stop for a time, I don't get angry but it can get a bit frustrating at times.

How seriously do you take speed running?

Not too seriously šŸ˜‰ Although I have been in cash prize tournaments, I wasn't serious competition so I didn't have too much pressure.

What do you do in emergency situations for example toilet/snack breaks?

I never had runs long enough to have emmergencies. Maybe when I was learning ALTTPR or SOM, but then the timer didnt matter much. If I need a snack or drink I try to have it at hand, take a bite or a sip during a game transition/loading/whatever. Other breaks would wait until a reset.

How do you prepare for a speedrun?

I usually just try to stay calm and relax before starting runs
I grab some biscuits, just in case

Sometimes i practice a bit before starting the stream / run as well (especially after not touching the game for ages)

How do you stay composed during your run? What do you do if you fail?

Depends on the game and how bad the fail is
If it's not too bad, i'll keep going (unless it's very early in the run and / or if it's something necessary for a good time)
if it's pretty bad though, may as well reset, unless it's a practice run

How seriously do you take speed running?

Used to take it kinda seriously, not too much anymore though

What do you do in emergency situations for example toilet/snack breaks?

No such thing

Toilet before stream or between runs
Snack breaks between runs if it's necessary, but usually once i start playing i forget to eat

What speedruns have you personally attempted?
A lot, please see my profile for a full list. My main game is Swordigo.

How long have you been speedrunning for?
3 years.

What platform do you use? Do you use any specific equipment or software?
I run on my Android phone (Note 9). I use the Mobizen for Samsung app for recording and UncleRonny's Floating Speedrun Timer for timing / splits.

How do you prepare for a speedrun?
If I'm trying out a new run then I look for anything helpful on src / YT / general internet, make / learn a route and just start attempts. For the runs themselves I just get in a comfortable position and make sure (as best I can) that there is nothing likely to interrupt me.

How do you stay composed during your run? What do you do if you fail?
I remember that failed or slow runs are still good practice. If I fail I just reset, if there's time. If I am getting wound up I just stop and do something else.

How seriously do you take speed running?
Seriously in as much as I try hard to improve and spend a lot of time making notes before doing runs, but not seriously in that I never really get too upset or treat it like an e-sport.

What do you do in emergency situations for example toilet/snack breaks?
I don't play anything long enough to make toilet breaks or snacks a real concern. For emergencies like house fires, bear attacks or flash floods I stop playing and find safety.

What speedruns have you personally attempted?
A number of flash games of varying obscurity.
Before I got more into it, I also tried a few Super Mario Bros runs on a low quality emulator I found online (Best time I got was a 6:35 glitchless).
How long have you been speedrunning for?
About 7 months.
What platform do you use? Do you use any specific equipment or software?
Flash/Web. I've been considering picking up a PC game when I get a better laptop.
OBS is king for recording. For timer, Llanfair or WSplit depending on what OS I'm on.
How do you prepare for a speedrun?
Get any notes I have together. Sometimes practice some tricks. I usually just jump into it and do runs.
How do you stay composed during your run? What do you do if you fail?
Nothing I run is too serious or competitive, so I don't mind if I screw up.
How seriously do you take speed running?
As serious as anyone would be with a hobby they enjoy. I put effort into it frequently and keep looking for ways to improve, as well as looking for others doing the same thing.
What do you do in emergency situations for example toilet/snack breaks?
None of my runs are particularly long, so I'll typically just do stuff in between. When I know I'm doing something longer, I take care of such business before hand.
