I'm trying to find skips that could save so much time in this run. I found this wall clip that might skip scripted fight in Scorpion level. (skip to 0:44):

hopefully anyone interested in speedrunning this game and know about wall clipping might find a way to the boss fight.

could you exploit the checkpoint in this category, for example doing perfect stealth. you encounter some soldiers on the way and its faster to stun them than wait for an opening and move ahead while they wake up and report. the soldiers ahead will go to caution status where its a checkpoint. if I reload checkpoint it resets their status to normal.

my bad. I assumed no kill from other MGS titles would apply here too since most boss battles in previous games would register as a kill. plus since it's based on the result screen I also think Foxhound emblem would be a category instead of peacenik which again I also thought did not go with result screen but gameplay. so major screw up ( 'X m X)

yeah I forgot to mention the audio. At first I assumed it was to do with air decompression, wasn't sure if it was the glitch at that time.

hey I think I might have discovered a glitch that can be useful for speedrunning this game. btw this is on the PS3.

short story: I think you can make the alien disappear by using floor vent glitch. probably you have to press button to get out as soon as the alien grabs you. after that the alien doesn't come back or vanishes.

long story: I was playing normally first time this game, I was in the lab where you get betrayed by Waits. Before the whole section ejects I was going inside the vents on the floor to hide from the alien. when I opened a vent to get out the alien came and grabbed me at the same time I pressed a button prompt for getting out. next thing I know the alien disappears and it won't come back again.

I'm not sure about this but I hope might be useful if it can be done multiple times and in different areas. definitely needs some testing.

just for newcomers to speedrunning this game, it is a faster way starting missions inside the maps on land instead of starting from the ACC or helicopter then landing to drop zone.

wouldn't it be more accurate to start timing as soon as inside chopper scene fades in? personally I wouldn't mind starting from the sound bip but just to mention for thoroughness.

here is video showing why phantom cigar & RTA should be used especially for certain missions especially when you want to get peacenik (no kills, no alerts).
I timed as soon the inside chopper scene appears and ended once I lose control once camera angle changes just before fading to result screen.

this isn't a perfect run and could be much faster if it weren't for my driving. compared that to the one on peacenik category it's faster by about 10 seconds RTA timing speaking.

sorry to intrude in this argument but that is silly excuse, easily can resolved by adding more moderators.

it works in the way it was meant for and speedrunning isn't what its meant for. its not reliable because speedrunning should be about how fast you can play rather than be what it shows in the result screen despite being slower compared to RTA.

As stated previously, any frame rate dropping, slowing down of the game, wouldn't be timed rightly. When your game framerate drop, so does the ingame timer. It's the fairest option. And also is the easier for verification for moderator, and users. When you got a time that is WR, you got the WR. Period."

frame drops happen in most games anyway and they get categorized as console thing or have PC system be shown. that doesn't stop speedrunners from using real time. speedrunning shouldn't about fair options thats really pointless in competitive sense. who cares if its easier for verification, no offense but come on verification isn't meant to be easy in the first place.

"Making it too difficult to do would also lower the amount of runners, and runs summited wich is bad. The bigger the community the better the competition.
And i'm saying that from my POV, that on top of that think this is the better choice overall."

that is for casual speedrunners who don't want to push the limit or excel at resolving obstacles that would slow them down. bigger competition would be useless if the rules are pampering runners who wouldn't use exploits in the game for faster runs. plus it wouldn't be that difficult that it would turn off would be new to speedrunning this game. speedrunning for improvised runs isn't easy.

if the phantom cigar gets banned then that put the glitch exploits (custom weapons glitch) seem not fair for glitchless runs that use phantom cigar. if the phantom cigar stays with the rule of IGT over RTA then that just makes the whole runs that uses phantom cigars for faster RTA to waste. another solution that might be the least favorable would be having phantom cigar/RTA and IGT its own category. that way using phantom cigar for RTA against IGT would be fair for both sides.

- phantom cigar RTA IL/full game categories
- no phantom cigar IGT IL/full game categoroes.
