Thread: Gameboy Colour Version

Started by: SasamSasam

Hi, I noticed this game currently only has the NES version of the game for the leaderboards but I was wondering if the Gameboy Color version would be accepted or added, I realize it would probably be slower because you couldn't use the Any% JP route since there would be no second controller but I thought it would be interesting for an alternative GBC route especially if it ended up being a significantly different version.

Thread: Conarionaut Ending

Started by: SasamSasam

I noticed the rules only say when to end time for the Traveller of Beyond Ending and not for the Conarionaut ending which is about 3 minutes faster as it skips the final puzzle and no one uses the Conarionaut ending in their runs. I'm submitting and running the Conarionaut ending since it is an official ending and faster and I'm just not sure if anyone knows about it since it's kinda poorly placed in the game and easy to miss. I'd maybe recommend creating a dupe of the boards and allowing Traveller of Beyond on Any% but also having a board specifically for that ending for posterity and anyone who specifically only wants to run that ending or splitting Conarionaut Any% and Traveller of Beyond Any% categories.

Thread: Info for New Runners

Started by: SasamSasam

Some info for new runners, I didn't see it here and it took me a bit to figure out.

You want to run on Steam version 1.0.0.6 or 1.0.0.5 as these are the versions with "Silent Mode" which skips a few dialogue sections and saves a few sections. You do not want to run on the GOG version. I'm not sure why but GOG v1.0.0.1.3 seems to lose time and I'm not sure if it's on base movement speed or movement speed while tired or something but it just seems to lose time overall.

You need to delete saved between runs when you hit 100 saves. The game auto saves and does not save over itself creating approx 22-23 auto saves per run, once you hit 100 and max out you get an error at every auto save and there is a chance for the game to crash every time you get this error. For safety you can either delete the saves manually in game after every run or every 4 runs or so delete the saves in your files under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Conarium\Saved\SaveGames\

Hi there, well I realize due to loads and movement it would probably never be competitive but I did notice that there are now PS4, Xbox One(Not sure if this means SeriesX as well, I'm not sure what they're doing about digital backwards compatibility) and Switch releases of this game people might do runs on that aren't on the leaderboards.

Thread: FPS Default

Started by: SasamSasam

Hey, I noticed that the rules for Directors cut say to use 60 FPS (Default) but it appears that that's not actually the default. The FPS cap seems to be tied to your monitor refresh rate and will cap at whatever your monitor's refresh is. This was really frustrating in testing to figure out why my game didn't default to 60FPS and made me think I'd need to figure out a third party frame cap alternative. Since it's not the game's default I don't know if we should be using 60FPS as the base going forward but at least for anyone with a higher monitor refresh rate your monitor will hopefully let you limit it in the windows/OS settings which will be a much easier fix than installing anything.

Thread: Emulation Difference or Trick To Triggering Junkyard Cutscene?

Started by: SasamSasam

Hey, I started learning this game with the NTSC PS1 copy on PS2(If we could add PS2 and Backwards Compatible PS3 for consoles that would be awesome) and I noticed in both the Any% and Segmented Run in the first mission when you are fighting the waves in the junkyard you unlock the first door with the keycard then the barrier with the alien keycard and immediately go into a cutscene. I was wondering if there is a trick to triggering the cutscene immediately as on actual hardware I can only seem to trigger it by leaving the area and re-entering which is obviously much slower. If this is an emulation problem that might possibly indicate some serious emulation flaws in other points of the run as well.

I wonder if the reason the lingered skip is so easy on Switch then might be because the Switch version appears be on V1.1.6 or earlier? It might be worth downpatching the Steam version to see if it makes it easier on PC.

Thread: Basic Lingered Skip Chapter 1

Started by: SasamSasam

So as it says, I've found a way to phase through the Basic lingered in chapter 1 by taking a hit so we no longer need to hold our breathe while running through them or require the offerings to distract them. This lets us return immediately through the first room after getting the second dice and paint thinner instead of going through the office again skipping an entire room and loading zone as well as the offering pickup animation. I'd maybe still use an offering the first time just because of the Lingered's spawn placement near the door we want to go through doesn't leave much space to get past and use the key easily. I did this on Switch and it appears super consistent on Switch. I was able to replicate it once on PC but it seems way more finnicky and seems to have some sort of timing to it for PC. It might just be because it was my first time playing PC so I'm not good with the controls though. I could not test on PS4. This should make getting past Lingered more consistent.

So I accidentally came across this glitch in a run where the movement animation broke and a strange woman asset hovered in the background when I first woke up in chapter 2. I simply was mashing right on the Dpad of my pro controller to try to move as soon as possible. I haven't been able to replicate it and it doesn't seem to move any faster or save time however I thought I'd share in case of the possibility of being able to perform other types of glitches while stuck in this frozen animation. Going through a loading zone removes it. It may be replicateable in the final area when you get up off that chair as well. I do not know if this can happen on other versions of the game or not.

Thanks for the info. I might mess around to see how much time an SSD can save when I have some more disposable income to buy more copies of this game

I'm curious if you're playing with the standard HDD for the PS4 since they are upgrade-able to an SSD which if you are on HDD would probably reduce loads times to be competitive if not faster than a Switch.

Started by: SasamSasam

It appears that a bunch of the runs are missing from the leaderboard. You can see them under recent runs but the only run on the board side is LMI_eSports' N64 run. My guess is it has something to do with the category flagging since the other runs don't say Any% N64 or Any% PS1 in recent runs so they might not have that category set somehow and aren't showing up because of it.

Thanks. It looks like just running into that corner isn't doing anything for me. I can get as far into that corner as possible but then it wont let me walk any further unless I start walking up the ledge slope. I'll have to try downpatching when I have more time or something since it looks like there were a series of small patches on steam just after release and one of them might have patched it out.

Hello I was looking at learning this game but I'm having trouble figuring out the Storm clip. It's really hard to tell what's being done in runs and the set up due to being behind a wall and I couldn't find any explanation for how it's done. Would anyone be able to provide a tutorial or written explanation of the steps to perform? I see that you wedge yourself in the corner and it looks like you fly somehow but besides that I can't tell what you're supposed to do to get through the wall.

Edit: I should mention I'm trying this on PC in case it's been patched out or something versus console

I can't believe we struggled with that for so long and it was as simple as clicking an analogue stick xD Incredible. Btw what controller input tracking program do you use Shade? It's really nice.

Thread: level records + cut scene skip?

Started by: shade_theshade_the

The Cutscene Skip was mostly just created for making it potentially more viable to run in Marathons, it only skips certain pre-rendered cutscenes which for some ILs wouldn't have any affect on time between using it or not. So it seemed a bit irrelevant to create a category for a mod that was mostly just made for a specific use in full game that doesn't translated across the entire IL board. Especially since no one used it for their full game runs anyways and we eventually removed it as a Full Game category just so we didn't have a bunch of empty categories. It saves maybe 15-20 minutes across a 3 hour+ run and only skips like 4-5 cutscenes. The rest can't be removed without crashing the game so it's more of just a cosmetic "Hey lets make this more friendly on potential marathon viewers" than a mod that can make any serious upgrade to the run.

For now ILs should generally be done without the Cutscene Skip mod. They're short enough it's not really a problem. If you run Full game with the mod let me know and I'll reinstate the Leaderboards for you on that end though it will probably be considered a Misc category still. Just because it's such an inconsistent mod for what it actually helps with. If we could have one that lets you skip any cutscene it would immediately be on the boards for every category and IL but since it's just a few it's not really a priority.

We've actually reached out to Dontnod a few years ago about a potential patch to allow cutscene skipping and they said they would love to and want to add a feature like that but that it was up to Capcom at this point and Capcom doesn't seem to want to put anymore money into the game sadly.

Technically windowed borderless would be slower since you can't properly alt tab and grab the windowed header to save time at Borley. Whether it should be banned or not though is another matter. Accepting any sort of mod become a slippery slope. We'll see what the mods say though.

I've removed the cutscene skip category for now just because literally no one has ran it, if people do I'll add it back as a misc category.

PC version is allowed, it's just really glitchy(and not in a good way) and bad and doesn't even have faster loads than console. I know Ecdycis has ran on PC.
