Thread: Discussion on recently found things (record.dat, skin file names)

1) Allow and/but make a variable tracking the usage of this. Variables feature exists on this website for a reason. Use it!
2) Disallow as it's a plain modification that isn't advertised unlike MP3s and BMPs. Just because there is code in the game looking for this file doesn't mean it's not a modification. In the case it does become allowed, use the variables feature, which is there for a reason, to keep track of its usage.
3) Abstain, but in the case FL off becomes allowed, use the unused variables feature to keep track of it. That's what it's there for.
4) Yes, we should be going back to Google Spreadsheets.

Chivu's "run from fresh install no custom additions" mentality is honorable, and one I would have agreed with in the past, but the gta series games are so fucked up that in many cases this is either impossible, or unethical.

Where did you see me talk about abusing moderator privileges?

You don't need mod privileges to do enormous damage. I could go and fuck shit up severely on at least 3 full-game leaderboards right now without using any of my moderator rights. Obviously I'm not going to, but what if I WAS that emotionally unstable person, what then?

If needed, I can make it a variable that is tracked. I will need a list of runs that use it and a list of runs that don't. I find it difficult to spot which ones do and which ones don't.

@6oliath What good are regular backups though if destroying leaderboards is not actually against the rules?

I'm sorry, I phrased my question poorly

How do you guys plan on maintaining the integrity of the leaderboards, and therefore the website, if any emotionally unstable person could choose is allowed to destroy the leaderboards by removing vital information from it, simply because they're having a bad day?

Unless the alternative ending is considered to not actually be beating the game, I think slower any% categories should always be called 'any% no <whatever it is youre not doing>'. This is no exception to that, so I don't think it should be renamed.

Does that actually get rid of the ambient music like stadium music?

That is an option, but it is not ideal. It is easy to forget to undo afterwards, as evidenced by people more competent than you and I actually already forgetting to do so. Also I want that airhorn to continue raping my ears. Call it stockholm syndrome.

Still A

Disagree. Disabling WASD cheat codes let you take travel paths otherwise impossible to take, allowing you to not lose time. Stadium music does nothing other than affect your morale (at this point I don't know whether in a positive or a negative way anymore). External tools that block the last input of a cheat string both for the cheat as well as the driving path should already be allowed and are also already used as far as I know, since they don't modify the game.

WASD cheats kill or save runs. Stadium music does nothing other than fuck with you post-run. They're of different scopes.

In any case: Take the WASD discussion elsewhere.

I'm sick of having my vods muted because of this bullshit music that does nothing. (Cult of Personality, Get Down To It) in stadiums.

I guess the same goes for casino music, although that's never posed an issue for me (yet).

I also did some tests and it seems reversing the track doesn't get it muted. That's fine too, keeps the filesize the same maybe. I don't care just get rid of this fuckshit

A = Allow
B = Disallow

I vote A

Edit: Feel free to discuss. Nobody told you you can't. In fact, please do. Nobody told you you shouldn't, either.

Thread: Resolution to FPS differences

Started by: DarkViperAUDarkViperAU

If I understood Chilly well enough, issues only arise if framerate goes above 120 fps? Based on this line: "Until you go beyond 120fps, that is."

If this is true, wouldn't 120 fps be a good limit then? Sure, some people might not be able to reach it (myself included), so there will still be some 'fork over the money' aspect, but at least it won't be 'fork over as much money as you can, the more the better', but it will have a hard limit. It may cause issues now, but it should be a lot more future proof as PCs evolve.

Thread: SA City Segments and their purpose

Started by: MakkebakkeMakkebakke

Desert segment begins when desert is unlocked (YKBB), and ends when the LV safehouses become purchaseable (phonecall after flight school). Badlands segment works the same way (area unlocked after TGS, safehouses unlocked after AYGTSF). Minor changes have been made to the definition though (such as not requiring the phone call, just flight school, and allowing a save after YKBB) to make it a bit more manageable.

People wanted city segments, they were given city segments. Yes, it comes with all these issues. Indeed, I was not giving a counter point. That was not my intention. Unsure what the rules say exactly currently, but NOE and post should fall under LV segment. If not, then I agree that that is an issue that needs addressing. However, I was under the impression that the issue discussed here was 'segment runs dont reflect any%' runs, which is an issue inherent to segment runs and EBen has already addressed this.

```So you agree that in their current state, they are completely meaningless. Great. Why keep them around, then?```
Guess I might as well address this before I post: While your jump to conclusions was illogical like EBen pointed out, it so happens to be that your conclusion is accurate. I do think they are meaningless, hence them being on these boards and not the main. Why keep them around? Because there's serious demand for them. I avoided the use of the word 'completely' before 'meaningless' though. Of course there's some merit to them, but not enough for them to be taken super serious.
Tl;dr: That's fine, not much of substance in this post anyway. Just speaking my mind.
