Thread: What determines how any active runners a game has?

Started by: TuffHunterTuffHunter

Oh wow 50 days, that's short. I think "Active Runners" is a strange name for "Number of recent leaderboard submissions".. but I'm sure this has come up before.

The glitches do not work, no. Some collisions also work differently (for example, Bird Skip is "patched").

Ok, the "Unverified" tag (created 2018-08-16) has been changed to "New". This is an optional tag, and it signals "please review / check for accuracy."

The "New" tag is not required when making submissions, but is highly recommended! Thanks.

"Poll: Would you be interested in attending a 4-day Speedrun event with live tournaments on the East Coast of the United States in Spring 2019?"
I'm west coast and can't attend, so I'm clicking "No" just to dismiss the message. Just letting y'all know.

For the Marathons forum listing, maybe a column indicating location of event (online, Germany, ..) for easier glancing \^_^

Feature request: for Extra Variables, an option to make the variable "mod-only" (only mods can set/change)

With this, we could turn off Verification Required, and then use a mod-only Status variable to mark the run as Verified (we currently do this for Chrono Trigger, in a roundabout way: https://speedrun.com/post/7q9jc )

New change: "Open leaderboard." All runners' submissions/edits will appear immediately on the board, with an "Unverified" tag until a mod sees it. As long as mods continue to respond regularly to notifications ( https://speedrun.com/ct/followsettings?mode=game "New fullgame run in followed game"), false or erroneous submissions will be handled in a timely manner.

How it works:
The board has a "Status" variable (the only possible value is "Unverified"), and it's set as Required. Mods can remove the "Unverified" tag from each run via these steps:
1. Go to Edit Game (a separate tab works best)
2. Un-check "Required" on the variable (this action applies instantly)
3. Edit Run and re-Submit
4. Re-check "Required"!

Hi everybody. We typically discuss leaderboard changes via Discord, so this thread is in the interest of keeping "major" changes transparent (and making sure all mods are up to speed). Here we can note the change and its effects.

PSTV should be fine. I'm personally not well versed in PSX speedrunning, but PSTV doesn't seem to be disallowed for Chrono Cross..

Edit: Actually OK, the PSTV decision seems to be more nuanced than that in CC.
BUT for Chrono Trigger, it's gonna go ahead and be a non-issue. (In other words, go for it)

Alright, go for it my dude. Added PSX and NDS.

I also added to the Rules what are the recommended versions/emulators.

Yeah that's fine. Emu vs console distinction isn't a big deal on our board - and that's generally the case for SNES games. Technically WiiVC is an emulator, too (and not really a great one..)

Well, the reasoning may be similar to why the glitchless categories have no leaderboards: no demand for them yet =)
Running CT on PSX or DS is a very different experience (some of the big time-saving tricks do not work). We don't wanna mislead anyone by suggesting it's comparable to SNES.

Is there a sub-45 without video? I guarantee you that sub-45 submissions are reviewed.

Yeah, it's relatively active. Ash streamed CC a few days ago, actually. He'll probably direct you to the Chrono series Discord https://discord.gg/0XU29pWZvyuI6zdB (except I just beat him to it :> )

http://twitch.tv/HannibalGraham is a pretty active streamer who focuses on Glitchless 100% (he's created strats that Puwexil & Essentia now use). Gonna have to send you his way :>

The main interest was that you'd get some major weapons up there for Crono/Frog/Robo, pretty early in the game. Don't believe I knew about the pause thing..! =0

Yep that idea's been explored with cheats, there's no where to progress. The original rumor I've heard is that the skip requires "16 pixel-perfect Save-Anywheres", which is why I believe it refers to the Factory thing

@Fortranm early Death Peak would be amazing, we've played around trying to find a way to climb it lol.

All Endings uses the "Back in Time" glitch, which is set up in the Factory core. If you save-anywhere many times to traverse the hall (a couple tiles at a time), you're able to skip the big doors scene. For some reason that leaves the Power switch in an unpressed state so you can return to it later (and re-fight RSeries). It's just a sloppily-made sequence, seems to be no other like it x)
By the way I'm convinced this is where the "Future Skip" rumor originated, if you've happened to come across that. (A deal that no one ever had a clue about, just that a skip existed somewhere)

@Bearhead, the one major issue with CT on WiiVC is that it randomly crashes. CT has some bug regarding music/sfx loading (it crashes on SNES too but it's extremely rare). A few folks used to do runs on it.
Bizhawk is considered the best choice of emulator (Cronokirby uses it) - low input lag and runs at same fps as SNES.
