Thread: Common rules for Trackmania Turbo speedruns

• New Trackmania speedrunners should have a look at the Trackmania speedrunning guide first : https://www.speedrun.com/tm2stadium/guides

• All kinds of cheats or speed manipulations are not allowed.

• For every category, the timer starts on the onload (when you select a track and click on it in the menu) of the first track and the timer ends when you cross the finish line of the last track.

• You must do all tracks in the numerical order.

• Your video/stream screen resolution must be at 360p or more to properly see the Livesplit timer and the times displayed in the game.

• You must not place your Livesplit timer where a time is displayed in the game (it includes the track timer on the bottom of the game window and the checkpoints times when you cross a checkpoint). We recommand to place your Livesplit timer apart from the game in your overlay or on the right part of the screen.

• If you restart a track, you must add the ingame time shown on the track timer at the last frame before the restart. Use an external chronometer if needed to do the calculations.

• In-game time is the sum of your finish times on all the tracks.
You can directlty calculate it during your speedrun with the Manual Game Time component in Livesplit or you can watch the video of your speedrun and calculate it with the Ingame Time Calculator.

Alpines’s InGame Time Calculator is a software to calculate your ingame time :
https://www.speedrun.com/tmturbo/thread/fwkvt

An updated version of this software by DarkLink is available in the "Resources" page.

In the InGame Time Calculator, make sure to add the times for all tracks then save the results in a "splitterz" file, open it with Notepad, copy the text and paste it to http://www.pastebin.com. After that, upload it and copy the Pastebin link to the description of your speedrun submission.

• If after a while, the video of your speedrun is no more available, we will delete your speedrun ONLY if you were in the Top 3 or in the Top 50% of the concerned category.

Hi, I will see if the autosplitter is still working on my side. If not, I'll ask the developer of the autosplitter to update his program in the coming days. You can still compete in IGT and RTA on other Trackmania games while waiting for the autosplitter to be updated.
I'll post a thread here when everything will be corrected.

I added this, thanks for the suggestion. When you submit a run, in the "Solo Duo" menu, choose Solo if you played alone and Duo if you played with someone else in the Double Driver mode.

Thread: Trackmania Speedrunning Rules

Started by: RastaBobbyRastaBobby

Hey it’s your moderator RastaBobby!

This post will give you the rules we apply to any category on Trackmania Nations Forever and Trackmania United Forever. Take time to read the rules, if there’s something you don’t understand, leave your questions in the comments below. 😃

The default timing method on Trackmania Nations Forever, Trackmania United Forever and Trackmania Turbo is in-game time (IGT).

On any Trackmania speedrun, the in-game time is the total time spent driving on the tracks. It is the sum of your finish times on all tracks (you’ll need to add time in case of a restart on a track, see below for more information).

There are two ways to calculate your in-game time:
⬤ Directly during your speedrun with the built-in Manual Game TIme component in Livesplit.
⬤After a speedrun, you can watch the video recording and add the time spent on each track in the Ingame Time Calculator (more information at https://www.speedrun.com/tmturbo/thread/fwkvt)

In-game time is the fairest timing method as it does not privilege players who have fast loading times and fast menu navigation. Only your driving skills count.

The other common timing method is Real Time (RTA) : this is the total time elapsed between the start and the end of the speedrun : it includes both loads and menu navigation.

The last timing method is Real Time Without Loads (RTA w/o loads). It is used in Maniaplanet games (Trackmania² Canyon, Stadium, Lagoon and Valley) It does not take into account loading times thanks to a tool called a Load Remover. Have a look at these games on speedrun.com for more information.

The Rules:

⬤Read the Trackmania speedrunning guide (see the Guides page) before starting any speedrun: it will give you crucial information on how to speedrun any Trackmania game.

⬤Your speedrunning timer (Livesplit in general), the Trackmania track timer and your final track times should be visible and readable on the videos you submit. 240p and 15fps are the lowest acceptable video resolution and frame rate. Your overlay and your Livesplit timer should not obstruct the view of the Trackmania track timer or your final track times at any time.

⬤Each track of the category you speedrun needs to be completed. No medals are required on Trackmania speedruns (except for 100% categories). You must complete the tracks of each category in the alphanumerical order.

⬤If you restart a track (it includes respawns BEFORE the first checkpoint), you’ll have to add the time you spent on the track before the restart. This penalty does not apply to the Platform categories. If you had to add time to your total time because of a restart, mention it in your run submission so we can quickly check if the time loss is correct.

⬤Cheats (video cuts, intended miscalculation of the ingame time,...) or speed manipulations are strictly forbidden and it may result in a “Verify” ban: we won’t verify your speedruns for a certain amount of time.

⬤If you have doubts about the validity of your speedruns or you have questions about Trackmania speedrunning, you can contact the moderators on the social media accounts they mentioned on their Speedrun.com user page.

Thread: Autosplitter v2 and refined rules

Started by: RastaBobbyRastaBobby

Yo stoned drivers, it’s your moderator RastaBobby.
4 months ago we switched to Real Time without Loads as the default timing method on all Trackmania² games thanks to an autosplitter and load remover created by my friend Nekz;
But some bugs were found during All Flags speedruns while we were using the old autosplitter. In addition, due to a recent Maniaplanet 4 update, the autosplitter v1 stopped working.

Nekz and I have worked hard during the past weeks to create a bugless second autosplitter and load remover.
This autosplitter v2 brings 4 major updates to the old one:

The way of functioning of the autosplitter has been completely revamped: in the autosplitter v1, we had to list the checkpoints count of each track. By reading the game code, the autosplitter would split on the last checkpoint of the map (the finish line). We had some splitting issues with this method.
The new method we introduce in the autosplitter v2 is slightly different: Nekz found a value in the game code that indicates if a track is not played (value=0), is played (value=1) or is finished (value=2). The autosplitter automatically detects the change between the value 1 and the value 2 to split exactly when the track is finished (when you cross the finish line). This new method should kill splitting bugs. If you encounter any splitting bugs, please report them to me on Discord (RastaBobby#2025).

The autosplitter now works not only on Nadeo official solo campaigns but also on usermade solo campaigns thanks to the following option in the autosplitter settings interface in Livesplit: “Auto split detection for unofficial maps”. This way you could have fun speedrunning MrDVD’s solo campaigns or Spam’s upcoming solo campaign 😃 If some of these usermade solo campaigns encounter a lot of success, we might add these as official categories on speedrun.com.

We are proud to introduce splits landmarks: you can now choose on which tracks you'd like to split during the speedrun.. This feature allows you to split on every track for a short speedrun or every 2, 3, 5 or 15 tracks for example on a long speedrun like on All Flags speedrun.

The autosplitter continues to work properly after a game crash: all you’ll have to do is to exit the game (use Alt-F4 or Ctrl-Alt-Delete if needed), to restart it and to relaunch the last track you were playing before the crash happened.

The speedrunning rules for Trackmania² games have also been clarified.
Nekz and I truly hope this new update will bring more players to speedrun Trackmania games and that it will lead to the creation of a Trackmania speedrun community.

Bye bye stoned drivers and don’t forget to smoke weed everyday!

Thread: Autosplitter, Load Remover and Real Time without Loads

Started by: RastaBobbyRastaBobby

Yo stoned drivers, it's RastaBobby! Since months you've requested a new timing method which would be more fair to all players than the old Real Time with loads timing method, you wanted no difference between someone with the latest SSD gaming computer and someone with a basic computer.

We listened to your feedback and we introduced InGame Time as the default timing method on all Trackmania games a few months ago. Even tho this is the fairest timing method, it had a great flaw: calculating the InGame Time for a speedrun is such a painful experience. You can directly do it during your speedrun with a Manual Game Time component on Livesplit but your speedrun will take more time or you could do it after doing your speedrun by rewatching the VOD and calculating the total game time.
All of this was done manually.

But, and there's a but, we haven't explored yet the 3rd timing method available on this website: I'm talking about Real Time without loads. This method can only be used with an autosplitter and a load remover on Livesplit, which is a little script which analyses the game code while you're speedrunning and which autosplits every time you finish a track. The load remover inside the same script pauses the timer while the game is loading the following track and it resumes the timer when the track is fully loaded.

And we finally have this divine instrument! NekZ did a hard work to create the 1st Livesplit-compatible autosplitter and load remover for all Trackmania² Games (Canyon, Stadium, Valley, Lagoon) and Trackmania Turbo.
This technology marvel, after you'll set it up to the category you'll be speedrunning, will autostarts the timer once you have finished loading the 1st map of this category in the numerical order. It will autosplits each time you cross the finish line of a map and it will autostops on the finish line of the last map of the speedrunning category. On your Livesplit layout, you can now display 2 timers, the first one will be displaying Real Time WITH loads and the second one will be displaying Real Time WITHOUT loads thanks to this load remover.
If you look in the resources and if you download the Trackmania splits file and my personal layout, you'll see your splits times with two times columns: the first column entitled "Time" will display the splits times in RTA without loads and the second column entitled "RTA" will display the splits times in RTA with loads.

This autosplitter & load remover revolution will take place on all the Trackmania games in the following days or weeks, the switch from IGT to RTA w/o loads has only be made on TM² Stadium yet, we need to be sure the autosplitter is working on all categories for the other games.

The tutorial on how to speedrun Trackmania games with this autosplitter and load remover is already available in English (subtitles in French and English will be available in the next weeks) on my personal Youtube channel at https://bit.ly/tmsplitter

Thread: Maniaplanet 4 Update and Timing Method

Started by: RastaBobbyRastaBobby

2 weeks ago, on May 9th 2017, there has been the biggest update in the history of Trackmania: Maniaplanet 4 is live, with lots of graphic changes but also changes in game physics. For example, at the start and maybe during the whole track, the cars in all the TM² games have a faster acceleration than before the update. Some bugs have been rectified like landing bugs on Stadium and there has been new blocks and corrections to existing blocks.

All these changes affect loading times, menu navigation and your scores on tracks.
But it has been decided to not make a distinction between the old and the new speedruns on TM² games. We might see a lot of IGT records in the following days due to the better game physics. Maybe old RTA times are unreachable with Maniaplanet 4 but we'll keep it like that. For now, the default rankings are still based on In Game Time.
In the future, there might be Livesplit scripts for Trackmania games, allowing speedrunners to autosplit after each track and to remove loading times while keeping menu navigation. If so, RTA without loads might become the new default timing method (calculating IGT manually is way too painful!).

I have set 8 to 10 checkpoints on the other challenges to go through more than 7 places. Setting 4 checkpoints on HQ Tour is good for speedrunning purposes: you need to find the fastest route for your vehicle, you need to try several things, to exploit the map to become 1st. Most of the time, the route is not completely defined in speedruns, ppl search for months or years the optimal route and this is what I aim for on The Crew.

Hey,

I'm the one who brought The Crew alive into the speedrunning world last month.
I did not take a lot of time to set up categories so here is all the information you'll need to speedrun The Crew:

General information:

Always try to mention the vehicles you used in your speedrun attempts (with the spec)

A video footage is necessary, screenshots won't be accepted. We advice you to use OBS to record your game.

About Faction Missions:

Less than 10 minutes: this speedrun includes all of the concerned faction missions. We use the ingame timer to get the times and we sum up the times for all the missions to get the final result (it will be expressed in InGame time (IGT))

Above 10 minutes: these speedruns include only one mission each, the ingame timer is used and no external timing software is needed

About "Visiting the USA" speedruns:

These speedruns are based on freedrive challenges I've created, they will offer you a good look of the USA and of its remarkable places.
The ingame timer is also used, no external timing software is needed.
Vehicle changes are allowed during the run.

I'm doing this post really quick so I might edit this post in the future to add more information.

Get your hands on the wheel bros!

Hello guys, I'm RastaBobby, the new speedrunning mod for the Trackmania games.

As you may have noticed, all Trackmania games except Turbo were using RTA (real time with loads) as their default timing method while Turbo is using IGT (ingame time) because loading times on consoles are significantly longer than on any computer.

Many Trackmania speedrunners told me they would like to see IGT as the default timing method for all Trackmania games because RTA rankings are mostly based on loading times for short speedruns like on many Trackmania speedruns. I think most of us agree that navigating fast in a menu to change the map doesn't determine if a speedrunner is good or not and we all know that loading times are random and based on your computer performance.

That's why we've decided to put IGT at the default timing method for all Trackmania games to make rankings more accurate and fair.

Don't worry, all your past speedruns will remain on the website, the mods and some volunteers will calculate the IGT for all these past runs to make the new rankings.

I hope you’ll enjoy these changes and I hope we’ll see more runs on Trackmania games in the future.

A timing method change is of course followed by changes in the speedrunning rules for all Trackmania games:

-your video/stream quality must be at 360p or more to see the map times.

-you must not place your Livesplit layout where the map time is displayed (not on the upper left corner and the middle bottom and where your checkpoints times are displayed between the center and the middle top)

-we suggest you to add the “Total Playtime” component to your Livesplit layout, it will ensure the continuity of your speedrun and the fact that you didn't cut parts of your video to gain time.

-if you restart a map from the beginning you must add the ingame time shown at the last frame before the restart. Use an external chronometer if needed.

-you may use Alpines’s software to sum up all your map times: download it here:
http://www.speedrun.com/tools/InGame_Time_Calculator_sg9m5.zip
Mention your map times with the name of the map and mention the failed attempts with this notation: “Restart 1” then “Restart 2”... Make sure to add the times in milliseconds for all maps else a 23.79 will be displayed as a 23.079, then save the results in a splitterz file, open it with Notepad, copy the text and paste it in http://www.pastebin.com then upload it and copy the pastebin link to your speedrun description.
