Thread: The Future of Emulation for the Leaderboard

Started by: PlywoodPlywood

For me
Option 2A
I don’t think emulation, by its very nature should run faster than the hardware it’s.. well emulating. That’s literally running in direct contrary to their point. Separating emulator makes a more fair playing field, you don’t have to compete against PSTV, basically. So as far as I’m concerned there’s no need to run them at settings which decrease load speeds dramatically or parrot the PSTV.

I’d also like to say, while I’m not a hugely active MGS1 runner, I’ve been around MGSR for a long time & scarcely (if ever) does a decision, especially one of this gravity please all sides.

I’m aware a lot of folks don’t really like needing a PSTV to be competitive, but again, separating emulator (aka 2017/18 MGS1 boards) makes that point moot. You’re comparing emu to emu and official hardware to official hardware. Allowing load time increases does not do anything more than improve the QOL of the run on emulator, but this alone is not in my opinion a good reason enough.

Thank you for reading!

I mean, the game still exists & you can speedrun despite a leaderboard. I’m sure as well if you search YouTube or reddit you might find other speedruns of it you wanna learn/compete with other times.

Considering GWR’s recent tirade and copyright striking of speedrun content, just curious how going forward this will affect the GWR and SRDC stuff?

I think considering their apparent lack of respect for runners it should be binned. But I’d be curious on what if any action the site could take in response to this behaviour on their part?

As a moderator of several games I personally find this a bit overreaching on the staffs side and sort of conflicting with the message I’ve heard time & again that you guys don’t wanna be involved in community issues.

Denying game moderators and communities the right to choose who may submit to their boards is just ridiculous.

that’s the reason 2.0.5 is what’s allowed & not earlier versions.

But it’s not slower tho? It’s the same run, with a higher time because ur using a different method. Nothing changes, but for how the leaderboard tracks time.

Besides that, you can display RTA & still track by IGT.

yeah a mod chip that fucks with loads is out of the question, but Carci also said not all of them will do that.

For the record, I don’t have a modded PS2, I bought 3 regions (JP, PAL, US), so it’s not like I’m here to defend modding at all costs. I just misread/misinterpreted your post, so my bad.

how is using a mod chip to break region lock cheating? Why is it cheating? Who decided it’s cheating?
Does a mod chip splice runs now? Technology.

also it’s not really the place of a mod to have a tantrum when someone says mean things about you on Twitter & refuse to acknowledge evidence presented to you.

Whether punchy bitched about you or not is sort of irrelevant to the fact he had research done & you’re disregarding it for what reason exactly?

Like you don’t even seem to know what you’re looking for in regards to how the IGT works.

I’d reevaluate your behaviour and if you can’t be bothered to listen to what people have to say, probably just don’t be a mod anymore? Every response from you is bitter and childish & complains about the tweets. You just ignore incontrovertible evidence that the emulator you’re demanding runners use is out of date & inaccurate, like that’s just iconic.

Also anyone can find out your “location” which, by the way, is something you set on your profile, just by checking it. Again, trying to take pot shots at punchy for being a big meanie? Lol

as a casual observer here, the fact the rules dictate you have to use an inaccurate emulator is frankly outstanding

That’s 10/10 modding right there

we are constantly thinking about how we’d implement ILs. It’s just a pretty complicated situation & we’ve prioritised other aspects of the leaderboard first. But it’s definitely on the radar!

Thread: Leaderboard updates: 24/11/2019

Started by: RaichuRaichu

Hi guys, just posting a thread to detail some updates to the board since the last few days.

Firstly, I’d like to extend a thank you to the runners who’ve picked up this game so fast and started submitting runs. We really enjoy watching your enthusiasm and love for the game in this early stage and the improvements over such a short space of time has been outstanding. So congrats to all of you.

But let’s get into the updates!

First of all we’ve added two new moderators. We want to welcome Jaguar_King and Maxylobes to the mod team. Both have extensive experience as both speedrunners and moderators - so they will be a welcome and valuable addition to the team.

Secondly, maxy has updated the rules to be a bit cleaner and fleshed out. We have also added a variable for storage type, if your PS4 has never had the drive changed, you’ll be running on HDD, but if you upgraded to an SSD, you’d select this variable. SSD offers faster loading times so to allow for fair comparisons using SRDC’s filters, we have added the variable.

Further, we have defaulted to RTA as the standard timing method, due to apparent inaccuracies with the In Game Timer. However, this is still being investigated, so we’d ask for the moment that you please submit your IGT & show your results screen.

Hi Hess,

Glad you’re excited to see the board!

We’re not 100% sure how things are gonna work for the game, so we’re waiting to see and go from there. Categories etc will get added in due course once we’ve had some time to play etc. There may be an online mode but it’s hard to say right now.

Happy you’re as excited as we are! Hope to see you submitting soon. 🙂
