Found out today that you can get this to happen just by holding down the start button instead of mashing it after you choose the difficulty.

I don't see why not. I'm still trying to do it on PC, but when I can get it down somewhat consistently I'll start attempting it on PlayStation.

Thread: Timer end rule

Started by: RaclesisRaclesis

As the rules are currently the timer ends "once VICTORY appears after the final country has been annihilated". Though with two of the countries, Caerleon and New Almekia, since they're allied with each other, the computer can take the last castle meaning that this never happens. For runs where this happens what is the proper time to end the timer? Right when the castle falls? When the fade in starts for the final talking part? I've been ending my timer when this happens right when the game fades in after the last castle is taken before the last talking part.

Thread: 60 or 30fps? Which one is allowed using dusckstation?

Started by: jota_flyjota_fly

These guys beat me to it, but yes the game run at 30fps. The 60fps that you're seeing is because of Show Display FPS being checked and not Show Game Frame Rate being checked. Seeing this thread and reviewing the wording of the rules it only says to have "Show FPS" checked, but not which one. The rules will be updated to include having both "Show Display FPS" and "Show Game Frame Rate" checked so this kind of confusion doesn't happen in the future. Apparently when Duckstation first came out there was only one option that would display both, but they have since been separated to those two options.

Thread: Major Glitches - Plant 42 Skip?

Started by: BaabaachopBaabaachop

5 Jul 2022, 23:37 (edited: 5 Jul 2022, 23:39)

Plant 42 skip is pretty much the hardest skip to get in the game. You have to leave the room at the same frame that Plant 42 takes fatal damage, then go back in, load your bazooka with flame rounds (You can use grenade around if you want, but you have to hit 5 times from my testing in order for it to work as opposed to the 2-3 with flame rounds) which gets you control of Jill, then move near the fireplace without being able to see where you are, and shoot the tentacles. Then you need to get the key and leave the room before the cutscene picks back up. There's a chance you can just straight up miss the vines as well.

There is a slightly different way you can go about doing it by using text buffering to glitch the cutscene. It's slightly slower but it might be a bit more consistent in getting the beginning of the glitch to work. Here's a video of the other method of getting the skip.

Thread: Cannot get the autosplitter to work with PC version of RE1

Try using the Jill Any% splits found in "New Splits for RE1 and RE1CE" by Shiido under the Resources tab here on SRC along with the built in autosplitter from Livesplit. Again make sure everything is set to game time, including the Timing Method in the Timer tab, the Timing Methods for +/- and Time columns found in the Splits Tab, and you have compare against set to game time. the timer and splits tabs are found under Edit Layout. ALso make sure you don't have an autosplitter in your layout as well as using the autosplitter in the edit splits tab, they'll make it so you'll end up splitting multiple times. If you have any more issues let us know and I'll see if I can help you out more. 🙂

I found out recently that you can skip the intro after selecting the difficulty and go right into the first organization phase. I was just hitting Start after selecting easy and it went right to the game without showing the intro. Tried it again after just to make sure and it worked again. Saves only like a minute or so by skipping the intro and the talky bits, but still, time save! 🙂

Alright awesome. Now I have another issue. I got the game working on Snes9x (It's 1.60) then went and downloaded the savefiles from the resources section. I can't extract the files from the zipped folder or even look at what's inside. Is there something wrong with the download or am I doing something wrong?

Which emulators are allowed to runs this game? I have snes9x for FF4 runs and I was wondering if I could use that to run this game as well. Also will the files for the Pazuzu save and end game save for the resistance glitch work for snes9x as well as Bizhawk?

What set seed do people use for this game? I've seen three runs of this and each one uses a different set seed. Or does it really not much that much of a difference?

Submitted a run for Any% Caerleon about a month ago and I see that the last time either mod has been around has been at least a year ago. Hoping this will get one of them over here to check out the run.

I also wanted to ask about skipping the text. On any controller you can hold R1 and X to make the text go by much quicker. The other two runs I've noticed for Caerleon Any% don't do this. I'm wondering why that is. This can be done on a normal controller so I'm going to assume that it's allowed.

I haven't done a run of Chris ABK yet. No one has really XD It has to be when you first see her in the save room. You do need to say yes to her practicing though, since saying no leads to the same result but just slower.

Rebecca comes in if you say Yes to her at the beginning of the game. You want to say no so you fight both phases yourself. Also don't forget that you need to save her as well in Mansion 2 by going into the hall that leads to the save room you meet her in and turning around and leaving. 🙂

You have to trigger cutscenes in a specific order. At the start of the game for All Boss Kills you will go up the stairs in the main hall once Barry leaves it and go into the first door on the right, then turn around and leave, then go to Forrest. That will trigger a cutscene with Barry where he shows you Forrest's body and gives you the bazooka. Triggering that cutscene will make it so that another cutscene will happen in the Guardhouse where you listen to Barry and Wesker talking in one of the rooms. When you go in right after that cutscene you'll get a cutscene with Barry where he leaves to "Get some fresh air and be eaten by a monster." Because that cutscene triggers he won't come to help Jill with P42 and she'll have to fight both phases of it.

Hello there.

Those category extensions already exist. There's a separate board for them over at https://www.speedrun.com/re1ce and they include:

NG+
Handgun Only
Shotgun Only
V-Jolt% (Make and use V-Jolt on Plant 42)
All Boss Kills (Make Yawn 1 run, kill Neptune, both phases of P42, Black Tiger, and both versions of Tyrant)
Helipad Tyrant (Pretty much save barry/rebecca)
Zoolander% (No left turns or using left on the Lab PC)

And you can do all of those in either Original or Arrange mode! 🙂

Thread: help in a few places please console runs

Started by: MacCloudMacCloud

Hello there and welcome to RE1 speedrunning!

The first question you have is a trick called "Quick Crank". You can squeeze Jill's hit box through the space between the steps and the small box next to it in order to push it sooner then you usually would be able to. You do this by running at where the two meet (The steps and the box) and turning Jill slightly to her right. You should pop right through. From there you push the steps up against the wall and then go as far to the left of the steps as you can, go up it, turn and grab the crank. You might need to go back down and adjust how you're going up if you're not all the way to the left. You can do this trick without pushing the steps at all before doing the clip, but it makes it a little harder to pull of. Doing one push before performing the clip makes it easier to grab the crank once you push it against the wall. You lose a slight amount of time, but if you fail doing it the more optimal way you will lose a LOT more time. I would check out a few different runs, both on PC and PlayStation, to see how others to do before deciding on how you want to approach it. For me on PlayStation I do the one push because of how movement feels on console while on PC I tend to go for no pushes first.

As for the Plant 42 fight with the knife it's an RNG fest. We run around to a certain point on Plant 42 in hopes that we'll take less hits from it, but it's still rather random as to how many times you'll get hit and if they're small slaps or full on bitch slaps across the room.

On Playstation we don't do acid skip because it's faster to take the acid rounds from Barry due to loading time and extra menu/banking time. As far as Duckstation being that much slower then the legacy emulator I know it's a bit slower, but from what I understand about Duckstation is that it's a much more reliable emulator to use. Also all categories use the in game time, no matter the platform.
