Forum: Chocobo Racing Thread: A Note on Emulator Delays Started by: groggydoggroggydog (edited: ) |
Yeah that's how it works, consoles save time because what the emulators are emulating is specifically the Playstation 1. In any event, I gave it thought for all of 2 seconds and realized that this game would probably function just fine with loadless timing. Atleast, I don't remember it lagging any more or less depending on the platform you play on which is the usual reason PS1 games don't get loadless applied to them. Only issue with that is that it's a lot of work and being a CD-based game, the loading times will inevitably vary between each run, so we'd probably need an OCR load remover or whatever. I think they exist already, but I haven't looked into it. As far as emulators go btw, they should still aim for accuracy on the console they're emulating so I think ePSXe should be cut off entirely at this point in time and just move everyone to BizHawk. |
Forum: Jak X: Combat Racing Thread: Freeze Rally timing Started by: PullPull (edited: ) |
tl;dr show the first results screen time before the bonus kicks in and add 10 seconds to your submissions lol So Freeze Rally can go into negatives because collecting all Freezers results in a -10 second bonus. speedrun.com doesn't allow submitting negative times so the only workaround is to add 10 seconds back to the final time, effectively making it positive again. Now the fun part is observing what the game does when it gives you the -10 second bonus
The final time is shown to be 5.98, therefore with the bonus it should result in a time of -4.02 As far as I'm concerned, only the first value should be considered when submitting runs. This is, the screen with 5.98 in it. You need to use the results screen before the bonus kicks in, because using the final frame of gameplay isn't accurate, the game performs some finish line calculations for your final decimals. |

Added Co-op to Misc. categories mostly because SRcom is awkward to work with. Subcategories are Solo and Online, Bosses became variables you can filter instead. I'm not overly fond of adding categories that aren't in the game, though. If there's enough interest then yeah sure whatever, but the actual in-game percentage counters only go up to 300% even with all current DLC. (Also thanks for the custom Speedrun.com logo, adding it doesn't have it show up though because the site's broken lol) |

yea the boards are outdated right now because new DLC gets constantly released and most every new update messes up some of the old rules and it's a mess to take care of Being a 0 activity game for speedrunning though, nobody's (including me) taken care of it or even brought it up on the forums. If you want to see something added, suggest it on the forums and I'll get around to it. |

Quick guide for disabling DLC and online characters: https://www.speedrun.com/100oj/guide/a4opr As far as disabling "Game characters" goes (like QPD), it's unfortunately not possible. But if you just don't use them, they won't affect your run. |

Hey, we added character subcategories to the Warpless boards. You can go for all new world records or something. However, Warpless is still treated as normal via the 'All' tab, which as the name suggests lists every run regardless of the character. Due to the wonky way SRcom works, from now on you should submit your runs twice (fun!), both under the 'All' tab and again under whatever character type you used. For people who did runs with multiple characters before, and have _obsolete_ runs (runs that aren't your PB) on SRcom done with other characters, please resubmit them under their correct subcategories. I'm not checking through obsolete runs. also srcom sucks and all runs have to be manually duped so the boards are gonna build gradually please wait warmly |

using all cups as an example doesn't do any good given it started off as an actual joke category and barely anyone acknowledges its existence Definitely NG+ for reasons Natty mentioned, might not necessarily even be worth a misc. category given it's only a minor change in the route in the grand scheme of things |

Baiting the AI is mostly as easy as standing still, but sometimes they stop targeting you entirely and wind up wasting a lot of time anyway so it remains a luck game |

As an added benefit, loadless could be brought back to the boards, there's enough to data to slam it in any moment, really. This makes PS1 and PS3 (needs research if disc runs faster, too, though) viable. On VC side, Vita doesn't fall behind PSP anymore either. Not entirely relevant, but serves as a point that this brings more good than it does bad. |

Update: PSP literally runs the game faster, so it's essentially just a shit VC. Moderators don't seem to agree on having a "VC" category, much less banning PSN releases. Discuss this in either the Discord server or make another thread entirely. gg |

How are your monitors looking like? If I could force 1440x900 for my run then that'd be swell. |
Forum: Crash Team Racing Thread: Loadless Timing Started by: PullPull |
Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm going for. The thing is that different models even for the same console have load differences though, so people would need to specify whether they're on 30k or 75k and stuff like that. I don't want to add ugly variables to the boards though, so I'll probably toss a mention of it to the rules. If there's no mention I'll just use the shortest loads, probably. (Meaning, you might lose time in loads, but it still balances PSP out for example. However, if they're on the fastest version and I'd cut more than need be, then that's just fake timesave.) 51s and other top time material (Deceptive SDS/PS1) get special treatment though, but that's just for <the rest of the boards>, 'cause I'm really not timing 100+ runs. I'll work it out but that's pretty much how it works over at CNK, 'cept better. On most slims, PS1, PSP and whatever, tracks actually have notable lag in them. TA and OS are very nice examples of it. Also stuff like HAS start, Blizzard entry, hub loads and such. Emulators usually don't have any of that lag at all. Pretty much this means they're just saving time everywhere there should be proper lag but isn't. |
