You can still run on emulator. The emu runs will just not be eligible for the leaderboard because PS2 emulation is incredibly inaccurate still and will only over time inch closer and closer to how a real PS2 performs. So comparisons would be inaccurate and pointless.
Just run it on your own and see if you can get a hold of a cheap PS2 (seriously, you can probably get one for like $15) and then run for the leaderboard if you're that much into it at some point.

You have to store your mutant at the same time as you trigger a cutscene. It's very precise.
You can tell it worked when it doesn't show any health on the mutant on the top of the screen after the cutscene is skipped.

It's not a question whether you encounter any problems with the game but whether the emulator is running the game almost exactly like a real console would. It's not necessarily something you'd notice in casual play but there are many aspects that play into sufficiently accurate emulation to have speedruns be comparable to consoles.

Because the emulation is very inaccurate.

Yeah if it gets really simple to make, there might be one in the future. The loading screens should at least be easy to detect, so that's a big plus here.

That would be down to human reaction and therefore not accurate. I'm afraid you have to do this after the run. BUT as long as your route is the same every run, your total load times should always be the same so you can just subtract this set amount of loads from later runs.

You can cut out the loading screens in a basic video editing software or you just time all the loading screens in your run manually and subtract the time from your real-time. There is no convenient way to do this unfortunately.
The part about not being allowed to pause your timer manually is mostly to ensure that people don't pause the game for 3 hours mid-run and then come back to continue where they left off. There is no pausing in speedruns. Loadless times can only be determined retroactively (for now).

You can change the difficulty between cups in the run itself. That was one reason to merge those.

Any version that isn't the most recent one. This is only in regards to the strats that are being used though. So if a run of an even unpatched version is still conform with the current version (i.e. doesn't use any skips/glitches that have been patched in the current version) then that run can still count as Current Patch. Old Patch is anything that can no longer be done with the current version of the game - be it on a completely unpatched 1.0 version or the one from last week - they're both Old Patch.

Thread: Leaderboard merging

Started by: PeteThePlayerPeteThePlayer

It's time for a quick announcement:
Since we've had various polls to decide the look of the leaderboards we have come to the conclusion to merge the Nitro-Fueled mode runs with the Classic mode runs. The poll was quite the split, we can admit that, but all the moderators of the game - as well as various people who've put major time into NF - unanimously agree that the differences between the NF mode and the Classic mode do not warrant a category split. In fact, NF runs are virtually the same as Medium difficulty runs on NF. With that split out of the way, it is easier to have the traditional Any% and 101% categories as main categories for the boards, which an overwhelming majority seems to prefer according to a previous poll.
Difficulties will no longer be separate categories either. Runs will not completely lose their designations though, a mode variable will be there which will allow you to select either Easy, Medium, Hard or Classic according to your setting for the run. Understand that this change is to be implemented to have a more streamlined and less cluttered leaderboard and to make sure it is also easy to navigate through it.
The subcategories for Current Patch, Old Patch and Lap Skips will still be in place, the latter two being miscellaneous ones.
If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to ask.

Thread: Embargo on runs

Started by: PeteThePlayerPeteThePlayer

Recently people have been constantly asking if we'll allow runs of CTRNF from day 1. The short answer is no.

In order to figure out the load remover, in-game requirements for rewards and categories fully, we would all need to play and analyze the game first. This is what we shall do for the first week or so. You can speedrun right on day 1 but we won't accept any submissions (yet) and the run will be rejected later if it doesn't adhere to the rules that are not quite established yet. That's all for now. An update when submissions will be taken will be posted here and/or in the Discord server probably.

It only took forever but the Zeebo is now indeed a platform on this site and can now be selected for this game (in case anybody ever does a run of this on Zeebo)

Isn't All Missions basically 100% though? Unless you mean All Story Missions (or whatever they're called in-game)
That's something I can get behind a lot more than just a plain "any% glitchless" deal.

Well isn't it lovely that you can do both of those things in any%? So convenient!

Well on controller you do it by keeping X pressed which is the jump button (or the confirm button for menus). So try keeping whatever key is bound to jump/confirm pressed to get the same effect.
I myself haven't played on PC yet (let along on keyboard) so I can't say if that'll work though. Just my best guess.

Thread: Request platforms here

Started by: Lighnat0rLighnat0r

I would like to request two platforms which are both relevant for this game: https://www.speedrun.com/cbnk3d

The first would be the Zeebo, a Brazilian home console released in 2011.

The other is Symbian. While strictly not a platform, it is the OS under which Nokia phones ran. Problem I see with that one is that we also have the N-Gage as console already which also runs under Symbian. So I'm not entirely sure how to handle that but at least something needs to be done about that. I figured Symbian would be the most fitting, just like iOS and Android are a thing.

Just run the game without glitches if you want. You're not forced to do all (or any) strats. But that doesn't mean it'll become its own category, especially in a game that hardly ever gets any runs to begin with.
