Thread: Couple Questions (Please Answer ASAP)

Started by: zMienaizMienai

Sunshine ILs only moved to a spreadsheet, which would be a fine way to implement them for 3DAS too imo. SRC's level leaderboards were bad enough for one game, I can't imagine setting them up for 3 different games at once with a single set of categories.

The 3D All-Stars Sunshine leaderboard can be found at https://www.speedrun.com/sm3das#Super_Mario_Sunshine but there are no plans to have category extensions for it at the moment.

I think it would make sense to add it since it's allowed in the original and was always the least controversial option to skip the cutscenes anyway

PAL Sunshine is kinda carried by language, if you ignore it it's tied with USA and JP 1.1, and probably around 15 seconds slower than JP 1.0 because of plaza load time differences. We don't know yet if that difference is reduced by the All-Stars version generally having much faster loads.

Thread: Super Mario Sunshine Sprayless Any%

Started by: TetraSmashBoxTetraSmashBox

Sprayless is already a thing on the category extensions board: https://www.speedrun.com/smsce#Sprayless

There are two required uses of the spray nozzle, first to shoot a Poink at Petey to wake him up in Bianco 5, and second to shoot rockets at Mecha-Bowser in Pinna 1, so the category only bans shooting water with the spray nozzle (or juice with Yoshi).

Thread: Closing the Individual Shine leaderboards

Started by: NokiDokiNokiDoki

Hi all,

We've decided to close the Individual Shine leaderboards on speedrun.com. A few years ago, a spreadsheet was created to track IS times done using practice codes. It made grinding much more efficient, removed the verification step, and was easier to browse than its SRC counterpart, so it quickly caught on as the main IS leaderboard in the community. Until now, the SRC boards stayed out of concern for accessibility, but at this point they're only confusing for newcomers and don't reflect the current state of competition. Here is an archive of the boards, and the spreadsheet can be found under Individual Level Leaderboard in the sidebar, or at http://sunmar.io/il

Thanks for reading!

Hi! To select a level, you need to hold the corresponding buttons while starting a save file or exiting a level. The picture is still up to date. Hope this helps!

Thread: Piantissimo text skip

It is a bit slower to reach the Shine, but the main reason people don’t go for the text skip is that it just can’t happen on the any% route, since it depends on the previous areas you visit

200$ is how much the Family Edition Wii cost at launch iirc, nowadays you can find one for much cheaper since everyone and their mother had one.

Make sure to get the vertical one tho, the horizontal one doesn’t support GC games. You can tell them apart by the orientation of the Wii logo on the front

A few strats have been discovered but nothing really ground-breaking, people have mostly just been grinding a lot

Started by: Cody1011Cody1011

For a race file, you just need to start a new game, play through the airstrip, watch the court cutscene, then save once you reach the plaza.

Note that race file is only allowed for certain categories on the category extensions board, check the category rules if you’re not sure.

Emulator performance can vary a lot depending on how good your PC is, or even from one Dolphin version to another sometimes. You can keep running on emulator if you want, but it wouldn’t make sense to track top-level emulator runs on a leaderboard because of that.

Yeah, Wii has faster load times. It’s also easy to homebrew, which is useful for practice or to play discs from other regions

No I mean you can take 7 damage, then fall out of bounds and you’ll die from fall damage, not from being oob

“-Fruit stand clip is not allowed, you must die of fall damage”
Sounds like you mean “Death by standing out of bounds is not allowed”, banning that one clip would be pretty arbitrary, and you can take fall damage by landing oob which would fit the goal of dying from fall damage

Yeah, they forgot to remove the loading zone for the boathouse lol. I managed to get it by hovering through the planks and under the boathouse once, but it’s really hard

The results are in! https://q.zint.ch/results

Peach File and Hacked File will be added as new timing methods alongside the existing File Select (renamed as New File). All timing methods will be visible by default.

Thanks to Psychonauter for the technical implementation, to Arle Nadja and Strongman Lin for the Japanese translation, to the committee who helped make the poll, and to all who participated in the discussion around it on Discord!

Hi! The reason we ban SD/USB loading is because it’s significantly faster than loading from a disc. We do accept it for individual levels that have no loads in them but unfortunately that’s about it.

Note that it’s still perfectly fine to run any category you want, you just won’t be able to submit your runs to the leaderboard
