As far as being certain Bich won't do it again, I stake my own honor and will put my own neck on the line in saying that Bich is trustworthy and will not have this issue again.

The deed has been done and judgment has been handed out. There is no need to discuss this issue further.

Thanks everybody! I didn't realize growing up that Thunder Sword was so much more powerful. Definitely not worth getting Sword of Gaia then (I did test that out vs. Fire Elemental, which took well over 30 attacks at 59 LS in order to bring him down, and about 2-3 Golden Statues, compared to 19 attacks with Thunder Sword + Golden Statue).

This should help quite a bit in the end routing I'm looking at.

This spreadsheet is very helpful. Do you think we'd be able to put it under the Guides section? Also, do we know exactly what multiplier we get on a full charge on each sword? By the looks of the formula, the Thunder Sword gives about a 37% increase in damage, but do we know of the others? I somehow guess maybe 25% increase, but I could be wrong.

Hey all. I am wondering if anyone here knows of exactly how some of the mechanics work in this game (damage formula mostly and what the real difference is between swords and their special attacks).

The only thing I really could tell so far by looking at some of the RAM values (theorizing anyway) is that each enemy has the same amount of HP (255 from what I can tell) and you deal damage to that enemy based on the number of LS you have minus a defense value of the enemy. When that enemy reaches a certain threshold (I've had it die before that number reaches 0, so I am not sure where it is), it dies.

I also noticed that a fully charged Thunder Sword deals more damage than a fully charged Gaia Sword (about maybe 1/2 or 2/3 the damage of Thunder).

Other than that, I don't know the ratio of LS to Damage. I don't know if it is an exact 1-to-1, but knowing some of the details could aid in LS routing.

Thank you 😃

Yeah, I am planning on learning the game at some point soon. I was going to use the Switch or WiiVC version, but I noticed that many of the systems the game was on is not listed. I may just wait for the Genesis Mini to come out. Who knows 😃

... but now do I pick up the dog in the first village? I see it getting picked up in the speedruns to throw onto the statue for an easy lifestock, but every time I interact with it, I talk to it.

PC usually is, but being not part of said master race, I would hope my console of choosing can still be competitive. I don't ever expect to get top 3, but the game is still super fun.

I'm not necessarily saying separate into PC and Non-PC. From what they have told me on Twitter, this is an issue they are aware of and are working to correct.

Upon watching the 3 current runs on the boards (with, thankfully one for each console after seeing mine on the Switch), I can definitely see a huge difference in load times and certain aesthetics (mostly, in the PC and PS4 versions you can see the level below you while in the XB1 and Switch versions you just see stars).

Fastest: PC
Fast: PS4
Good: XB1
SLOW AS BALLS: Switch

When I saw the PC load the game in under 5 seconds compared to between 30-40 seconds on the Switch, I knew that these games are not created equal. The framerate also seems slower at times on the Switch and there is noticable lag at times. Hopefully something will be done about load times in the future.

If you're going with the hardware argument, the same can be said about a person liking a game and wanting to run it but has it on one console which is proven to be slower due to load times or because certain glitches or exploits are exclusive to the other console, or because resetting the game is a bit of a process vs. original hardware (thinking of PS4 for Sega Genesis Collection where if you need to reset, you're losing more time than having original hardware). Dragon Age: Origins is a game that comes to mind as the PC version is immensely faster than the XBox360 version.

As far as the discussion, there was a rather large discussion of it for the entire series on the discord back in October 2018 (which is where most of the communication seems to happen with this series). It was brought to my attention as an idea by a member who had hand issues but wanted to run the game. It was discussed and then voted on. The community overwhelmingly supported the idea of turbo. The two options for turbo were to have it as a filter option (which is what it is now) or a separate category. The filter option won out, but seeing the boards as they are now, maybe it needs to be brought up again as far as separating it.

I guess the best simile I can think of to this would be baseball vs. softball. The game is practically the same except for equipment and field size. A person who hits 50 HRs in Softball in one season, while still impressive, doesn't look as impressive as a person who can hit 50 HRs in baseball in one season. Does this mean the achievements of the softball player are any less remarkable? Of course not, but the HR leader in Softball doesn't rank on the same leaderboard as that one from baseball.

Perhaps separating categories would be a better option.

I agree that mashing is a skill, one that is difficult to master.

I also agree that some people do not have the ability to mash due to physical limitations. These people should not be left out of being able to run a game. This is why the option for Turbo Controller was added upon submission.

That being said, the way things are right now is by no means perfect. Some people do not care for the mixed leaderboard (where in both Turbo and Non-Turbo are displayed on the same board) and I understand why. Separating each category into Turbo and Non-Turbo may be the best way to compromise.

I don't like the idea on any of the PS games to outright ban turbo. I know it is a sticky subject and that turbo is prone to abuse, but I like the notion of being an inclusive community, which I feel the Phantasy Star community has been in general. There has to be something that can be done to reach a middle ground where both Pro and Anti Turbo stances can agree on the best course of action for the future.

Back in 2016 I ran 120k Population as a category but SRC didn't have a leaderboard a that time. I tried to get one created but it never came to be.

I chose 120k because that is essentially when you get the final rewards for the game. I was probably slower than death here, but I think it's a fun category.

There's my old video if anyone is interested. It was using the Funds glitch (which may or may not be valid), but still was interesting to do.

I also took a quick look at running Progression%. This mode is quite a challenge. Here is what I discovered so far:

1. If you don't have a town in the first continent that has Raise Control, you're in for a bad time.
2. Building up money at the beginning by dumping your army and waiting for week's end seems to be the easiest way for money.
3. 4-5 Raise Controls used before buying an army: Archers, Militia, and Pikemen will be enough to get you through continent 1, afterwards you will want to dump Militia for Knights.
4. You will lose control at week's end no matter what. Just go back and buy more Raise Controls and use them before your siege.
4. Canegor is a pain and Ghosts are very dangerous.
5. If you lose you can always regroup and attack again. The enemy's army will be as you left it. If Ghosts are at a high number, you're better off just resetting.

Once I get further, I'll give more details.

I have added it as a category in case anyone would like to attempt it.

Also, Relic% is added under a Misc. Category.

When I did Any% originally, I called it Relic%, in which all 8 relics had to be obtained. I think it can be revived as a Low%-style of play.

I know it plays a bit of a role in PSO 1&2, but I've always wondered in Ep. III if it has any impact at all and if it affects the run in any other way.

Fresh ram does nothing.

Okay, so I might either be onto something or barking up the wrong tree.

I looked at the JP Megadrive version, which does carry the glitch (it also seems to be the version that the GBA port is based off as the person to Ilan to talk to in order to trigger Mieu is the same person that is required in the GBA version), but the first time I tried it (close to Mieu's lake), it locked hard-locked the game. But when I tried it close to Yaata, the game reset.

I am wondering now if this is similar to how the glitches in PS4 work where they may only trigger correctly at certain map coordinates or on certain encounters. Considering I got two different results from two different spots (and enemy groups), perhaps there is a "Magic" monster group that can give us the results we want?
