Thread: Planning to speedrun. Help with the first level on Lu Bu's sotry

Never really expected anyone to run this.

From the start: kill Cao Jia, Zhao Zhong, Jian Shuo, Xia Yun. Now you have to wait for the dialogue from the messenger (My lord! Zhang Rang and some others...). During this you have to kill Hou Lan and the (3?) unit commanders around him. Following this, you should get dialogue from Hou Lan and Cheng Kuang, and then Lu Bu, which triggers the spawn. Kill Duan Gui and Zhang Rang. Dialogue from He Jin, Yuan Shao x3, Zhang Rang. Then kill them again.

It's been two years since I've ran this, but I checked and this should be right.
If you need an example, you can use [ShadeOfTyranny's WR run](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/28166023). It's not 100% consistent.

Be careful of hitting 300 kills as it gives extra dialogue.

Last time this was asked, I discussed it a bit with Tiffanyfruit. We both agreed that having it as a separate category would just crowd up the (empty) leaderboards even more than they already are.

However, it could possibly be a variable for all categories instead. I looked into it earlier and it can be done. Although this does seem to hide all runs unless you select a variable for NG+ (yes, no or any). Could be a side-effect of the runs not having it not set, but it's not a required parameter, so I don't know.

Not sure if it'd be a good idea regardless.

If you are low on health during Escuela of the Streets you can grab the health pack at the hospital you pass rather than at the start of the shoot out. It doesn't cost any time this way.

I tested it numerous times and this does seem to be the case. However, there's a range to where it will work, which was throwing me off.

As long as the bots are not in the back, behind the red line, it works.

Since there is no other way to "prove" the kick command was not used, this sounds fine to me. I don't think L4D2 saves anything in terms of logs, so I guess showing the console after the bug is performed will have to do? This will pause the game, though.

Edit: mystery's solved, OP's edited with how it works.
Note: this should work on all versions.

If you incapacitate the bots on the Dark Carnival finale they will get kicked when the sound stage is activated. This will work as long as they are not in the back of the room.

This will persist after campaign changes, given you call a vote to change it. The map command will simply start a new 'game', nullifying it.

This is mainly helpful for the Dead Center and Hard Rain first chapters, where you only have pistols to incap the bots. It also shaves off several seconds every chapter due to not having to incap (and damage) them.

The direct map change is relatively useless in solo runs, as not having mouse control makes it difficult to shoot the bots. Only Swamp Fever benefits from it fully, so I recommend doing it last.

Here's an example, at 10:00 (can't be assed to edit the video)
I didn't realise they were gone until I switched to The Parish.

As a sidenote, Dead Center finale could possibly be pretty annoying without the bots crowd controlling as you collect cans.

I mostly agree with Canterlott. The amount of categories this'll give will just cause empty leaderboards, or perhaps a run at most in each category. Pretty biased here, because I really don't care for LMOE and bhop script so I already think it's clogged up. In addition, only expert seems worthwhile. I assure you it'll be very, very enjoyable due to the randomness of this game!

Also, nice to see actual competitive players go fast. Didn't know Dawkins & Co. did that run. I always thought it'd be far more interesting to watch than just a bunch of scrubs.

Again, you don't need an on-screen timer for any speedrun. Not having one will not make it even a tiny bit illegitimate. Post-timing is probably even preferred for the 'official run time', since live timing is basically guaranteed to be at least slightly inaccurate.
