@SuccintAndyPunchy

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I AM smart and not just trying to appear as such? No. Of course you haven't. You probably think that everyone on the Internet is below you unless they conform with you.

I'm not saying that I am smart. Don't misconstrue my words. I'm getting you to think outside of your little box. You're not perfect. It would be wise to scrutinize the words of those you belittle. You might evolve for a change.

If that's what you really think is happening here then I don't know what to tell you. I could easily turn your very point around and say "I'm stating the flaws in speedrunning and everybody here is justifying these flaws". But as we all know that is not what is happening here. You can over simplify any situation to make it look like one side is in the wrong but the truth is that many mistakes were made in this thread. Singling me out is erroneous.

A common theme among human reasoning is that you only make an effort to understand something if it confirms your already pre-established bias. You don't take an equal effort to understand points that contradict your bias. It just doesn't work like that. So tell me? Did you actually make an attempt to understand my points or did your human bias take over?

And no, in the TS2 and 102D community the dreamcast and playstation versions are the farthest thing from viable. And as I've said I doubt this problem is exclusive to those games.

Too lazy to search for it among the already existing threads. I already know it's Chicago. But what is the exact address?

There is a glitch in the game called 40 Winks for Psone that skips over an hour and a half of gameplay. It seems very finicky (almost as finicky as the gulp skip in Spyro 2). And I need help trying to understand why the glitch works. Can some glitch masters find a consistent set up? The video is right here of me doing it:

Very subjective. There's two things that come to mind when I see this question

A. Someone who focuses on one particular game that is popular (SM64, oot, SMS etc.) and sticks with that one and is dedicated to getting the best times possible.
eg. Siglemic, Calebhart

B. Someone who has done a multitude of different games (I'm talking 100s) and has great times in those games.
eg. Cyberdemon531, Jumpyluff

Thread: Some Possible Ideas

Started by: MasterLeoBlueMasterLeoBlue

So I've recently learned 40 Winks any% and have been routing 100% on N64 AND PSone. I've been playing this game very extensively. And I would like to propose some ideas to improve this leaderboard. But before I get into the ideas I will jot some notes.

1. N64 cannot do oob because the ground isn't rendered meaning you fall to your death.
2. N64 cannot do last boss clip because the door and sofa don't make you fly upwards.
3. N64 has nearly instant loads.
4. Until something else is found, N64 can only complete the game with 40 Winks collected.
6. Playstation 2 has Fast Disc Speed.

Now here are my ideas

Add Platforms:
PS2 (Because of Fast Disc Speed)
N64 (Because it exists)

Create 3 Categories:
0 Winks
40 Winks

0 Winks will be Playstation/Playstation 2 Exclusive while the 40 Winks category will be for all N64/PS/PS2

Thread: Applying Speedrun Strats to Real Life

Started by: MasterLeoBlueMasterLeoBlue

This has been happening to me. Has anyone else here, since getting into speedrunning, have that one abrupt thought "How can I do this the fastest way possible?". It's like the things that I'm learning subconsciously while speedrunning is helping me do things faster in real life.

Just a few:

40 winks
Only one runner of the game. The run isn't even optimized so it's a free WR pretty much. The main glitch in it is a double jump that's not supposed to be in the game. So you can clip oob and skip most of the game.

102 Dalmatians
This game has been getting more exposure recently and rightfully so. The run doesn't have many super glitches that require days to get right (¤cough¤ Spyro 2 ¤cough¤). You can pick up the entire game in a couple of days and get a decent time.

Toy Story 2
My first speedgame. Only downside is that it takes a bit of time to get good. Route is straight forward and there's very few super glitches. If you invest enough time into it, you will find yourself wanting more. Also, 100% is a free WR because the time there sucks ass.

Monsters Inc. Scream Team
You can tell that I love Disney Platformers by this point. Monsters Inc. is a weird attempt at copying Ape Escape. The platforming is good. The run is short and easy. What I think makes this run interesting is the change in gameplay between Mike and Sulley. Mike is small and nimble while Sulley is huge and bulky. It breaks the monotony of an otherwise boring run.

To my knowledge there is an N64 version available in rom form. Would it be logical to add it to this or are they different enought that it would warrant a different page. I only ask because I'm finding interest in running this game.

Like I've said multiple times already, I doubt this is a problem exclusive to the two games that I've referred to. And if you would use your common sense, it's a reasonable assumption.

You seem to have missed the point where I said that wanting to ban everything but PC wasn't what I was pushing for. It was meant to show the logical fallacy in what Cyberdemon531 said about the point of speedrunning is to go as fast as you can. If that is what speedrunning is all about then why allow slower versions?

I'm already aware of that drop down box. It has been stated twice before. This following example doesn't apply to me at all, but I think that it will put the problem into perspective:

Let's say that a game that I'll call Game X has an SNES, a GENESIS, and a PC version. There is a runner of the SNES version and a runner of the PC version active. I'll call them Player S and Player P. So Player S has been playing for a lot longer than Player P has. However, Player P has WR because of the shorter load times. Player S, in reality, has the better IGT. Do you see something wrong with Player P having WR over Player S? It overshadows the more skilled player just because of the time you have to wait between each level. That's bs.

Like I've stated before, this doesn't apply to me in the slightest but it's a scenario that outlines the fundamental flaw in clumping versions together. The less skilled player has WR because of loads.

P.S. This isn't bait.

@Ihavenoname248

If you honestly think that that's what I'm doing then I don't know what to tell you. I even implied in my original post that my perspective was limited by only a few months. How could I possibly be generalizing here? But I can tell you, by the several people here defending their flawed system, I can extrapolate that the problem spreads much farther than just my "game-specific points".

And no. I'm not encouraging that anything be banned. So you were right in calling your example a straw man.
