Thread: Leaderboard rules rework !

It is unfortunate for runners like Rugimus who started competing in this game early on and had runs rejected for pause canceling in the past. Now we are reverting to allow pause canceling again. I think it is for the better since it is hard to truly define what constitutes as a "glitch" in RE1. So the terms stated above seem good to me.

About the "Rebecca Skip", I had made the argument for it on a previous thread and I am glad everyone sees it my way now.

You know what I was going to suggest a few ideas but in mist of writing all of it I realized something. Is even worth it? will any one even care?

This game is so broken from a speedrun standpoint.

I will speedrun this game with out caring about the boards. Good luck everyone

How was it decided that RTA should be the official way to time our runs?

For mission 9 it's absolute garbage to go by RTA. There is no skill involved in putting up a run where you purposely run down IGT with a phantom cigar. It defeats the whole purpose of speedrunning the mission, because the whole point of the mission is to eliminate the vehicles before the time runs out. So we basically skip everything.

I realize the games mechanics and dynamics makes it near impossible to set rules we can all agree with. It doesn't matter either way because people will still BabyRage about it - like I am doing atm.

But why RTA? Is there a thread that someone made to cast a vote? Or was it just an arbitrary decision by a mod?

Are you using component? PS1 games are not compatible with the component cables. But you can run PS2 games on them just fine.

So why not keep track of both RTA and IGT for full-game runs? Since there's a huge time gap. It will encourage us - the player - to approach the game differently and decide whether we want to improve IGT or RTA.

Its unfortunate that Reflex and Phantom Cigar is becoming an issue, and adding no reflex categories would make the leaderboards flooded with categories. We have to be careful what categories we add and remove.

I agree with bre3zeR

Technically the prolog isn't a mission. There's no reason to have to do a tedious tutorial like that in NG+.

As someone who is practicing to do full mission runs I vote nay for the "prolog".

I want to run NG at some point and although I'm going to hate doing the prolog I think it should be mandatory for that category. Unless there's a way around it for NG.

Ok I didn't realize that accelarin was not allowed in "peacenik" so that's good to know. Its very early in the game so we will see what happens in the near future.

Do you think this new category should be added, or is it redundant?

I don't see any rule against Reflex in "peacenik"... Or am I overlooking something?

Hello everyone, I have a suggestion

How do you feel about adding a No Reflex S Rank category for individual level run?

After a while Im sure most of the any%S category will be full of people using the accelerin/reflex. There's nothing wrong with using it since its a game mechanic accessible to everybody. However there are many people who try to play "honest" with no reflex. This mite make those people happy, not to mention it will be fun watching high execution strats with no reflex

PS... I feel that both the Raiden/Grayfox categories are unnecessary. If NoReflex category is added we should take down the Raiden/Grayfox categories to prevent having too many categories on the boards.

To fix this debate we would have to test the cigar and prove that the wait time during the phantom cigar is always consistent, in terms of in game timer.

We can take a run like Soliduz_snakez for example if some one using the same strats gets similar times then we can prove that its a legit mechanic.

The opinions of three people shouldn't decided the fate of something like this. (although I do agree that the cigar should be allowed) Some kind of testing has to be done.

Also I feel that IGT is the best way to measure a run time because its the most consistent way to measure the start/stop of the timer, giving every one a ''fair'' shake. In the end the fastest completion of the mission wins, regardless of Phantom Cigar or not.

Is not having RTA timer going to be an issue? or is it optional?
