Are we sure the glitch isn't performable on PAL though?

Also, I'd say Intro Skip would be a misc category, compared to PAL/JP which "should" be main ones as they legit go through the whole game by any means possible.

Well, first, we'd need to define the "start the timer" point before thinking about if we want to do the intro skip. I'd say the time would start when using the Beetle Key to enter the very first forest. That'd be my logical cue for it.

If you are not casting Heal/Healara/Healaga, you cannot use Cure/Cura/Curaga on whole party as it is single party cast. But if you do talk about Heal- spells, then ... I don’t know. But just in case, I guve this information as a clearup scenario.

Just to rebound on this very point Smartkin suggested, and in a very wise way: for DO, including Ante-Prologue & Prologue in the timing would be kind of a loooooong-shot; BUT, to make up for that, we could ask, in the ruleset, to add the Prologue+Ante-Prologue, with no timer, and start the timer when you confirm the DO. The catch would be to ensure the non-manipulated/non-cheated policy thanks to the VOD of any run starting with clear savefile + pre-run launch; AND, we could keep all kind of competitivity in any kind of categories which would need to include that (Prologue for example, or any DO).

Otherwise, my other points still stands \o

Thread: DFF Odysseys% ruleset

- Bonus day for Odysseys -> keep it? Allow increase?
→ Sincerely, I don't see any harm in allowing that. I mean, it doesn't add any speed to the run, especially if we change the timing system for matching the Any% format, and being sure all the exploits can't have any effect during the runs. Actually, if it's not for Any% setup, bonuses don't really bring much to a solo character run. Might as well argue it's a bit slower on equivalent RNG through the stages up until Destiny Odyssey boss.

- WoL -> enforce a level 1 rule?
→ Yes. Yes. And yes, especially if the timing system for Odysseys isn't changed. One of the exploit that the former leaderboard representative actually ignored up until the very end of their service. Nothing prevents for busting some EX Bursts to be granted some extra HP and make WoL being higher than Level 1, thus, having a little extra bit of OPness if he were to be the one chosen for an Odyssey run. Omega said it, the exploit related to this is just ... absurd, and should be prevented. So yes, WoL Lv1 + answer to the question below.
→ Though, if the timing system were to change, then, not going by that rule wouldn't do any harm, as it would only slow the runner by trying to do the exploits or the workarounds, rather than just flying through the Prologue, to complete a WoL run, and get the fastest time of the two if such a race were to happen.

- Chocobo abuse -> 5% chance at the start of the run?
→ Yes. Yes. And yes. It matter soooo much, it's even surprising to ask about it, knowing the previous team came to know about it quiiiite late. Nothing prevents us to just forfeit any # of battle to align the very first x5 EXP Bonus onto the very first Chaos Piece or Strange Battlepiece (golden) and just wing all the xp you can, being OP right at the start, especially for solo Odysseys; there, it'd be deadly. So, yep, nope; 5% or bust.

- Precustom -> Allow it?
→ This one is kind of a mess I brought in the past, but for a good cause. Precustomizing any character prior to the run, especially after getting a battlegen in the Prologue which insta-unlocks the Shop (whereas you'd unlock it on 2nd Stage of any Odyssey or up until you get a battlegen via Quick Match), is a huge advantage for solo Odysseys. Getting rid of a whole menu session, and not having to do another one up until the last stage, or the second-to-last stage, is pretty huge. So, if we are to change the timing system, I'd say to allow it, as it won't have any matter; if the timing system doesn't change, then nope.

- Start -> Start from new game or keep the rule as it is?
→ This is one of the point I had mind for so long, but kept for me in case it created another huge ego mess on any place. The current timing system is good for Any%, after the savefile, completely fresh of the hoven, without any means to cheat it on before starting the actual run.
→ For Odysseys, specifically them, I'd also convert to the Any% timing system : since you can exploit things which could impact the whole run, and since you also need to make sure that everything prior to the run is transparent enough and "well-thought" on the runner's knowledge, converting back to Any% timing to make sure everything is going "naturally" without any "prior setup" - like the Garland battlegen that not everyone can get easily before each Odyssey runs, but plays a huge factor into it because stat boost - and thus, a better timing overview. Not only the quality of the RNG would play a factor, but the way the runner handles it would also come in the play, which would be a huge plus to this.
→ For Shade Impulses / Distant Glories / Inward Chaos, the current timing system is fine ... although one could argue that resetting ad vitam nauseam to get the right board skills like Jump + Maser Eye + Invisible, is kind of a way to differenciate two runners, but since everyone can reset to afford these, it's not really a timing method issue, more a commitment to get the perfect RNG setup with the perfect character made for going fast for example.
→ For any other categories : this will have to be judged in terms of what the run is based on, and how it progresses. if we need a basis of fairness and evenness, with no manipulation nor prior setups, then Any% timing would be prefered; otherwise, let it go under the SIs/DGs/IC system. Simple as that.

Thread: Total Chaos Tournament ~ Season 3 (FF1 PSP Any% Tourney)

Started by: Leonis07Leonis07

Sweet ladies and gentle men,

Here we are, the time of the year where the Final Fantasy community opens up all kinds of tournament, for getting some free fun, to measure our love for the runs, and to also surpass our limits. And the very first episode of the entire series is no exception : Final Fantasy 1, the PSP version, is opening its 3rd tournament, regarding the Any% run.

The Any% run of the PSP version is a very fastpaced one, relying on one major glitch to power through the whole scenery. Of course, the environment and the RNG are also a high-value component of the run, and makes it unpredictable. Worth around an average amount of 1h30 of a time, this speedrun is quite accessible in its form, very technical when it comes to execution, and requires some dynamic minds to perform onto it.

Now, what's the Total Chaos Tournament? Simply a tourney designed in two parts:

_ a "round-robin" phase, composed with brackets of 3 or 4 runners depending the total number engaged into the competition, duelling by pairs, once or twice depending the format, to get the more points possible, and the best average times possible to get through the advanced phases.

_ an advanced set of phases, composed of two groups : the winners bracket "and" the losers bracket. The rule is pretty simple: if you win, you advance one phase, up until the grand finals; if you lose, you immediately go into the losers bracket, to perform another match, and get through the losers bracket advanced phases.

Simpler explained? Everyone is susceptible to win or to lose. The run is unpredictable like that, and the format of the tournament is also kin to any plottwist : you lose within the quarterfinals? Unfortunate, but you could still win the whole way through the losers brackets, and still reach the grand finals. Obviously, the whole point of the losers bracket is to give a second chance to any final phases runners, thus, to be completely out of the competition, you either have to lose the round-robin phase, or, to lose twice in a row during the advanced phases.

I hope this was explicit enough. In case, here are a set of links which will lead you to different places where you'll be able to grab some more informations :
_ the "Final Fantasy 1&2 Speedrunner Assembly" permanent link towards the dedicated Discord server, where we will possibly hold all the vocal sessions for the tournament, as well as the whole logistic of it → https://discord.gg/2kX5mMS
_ the Google Form for pre-registration for the tournament → https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfTV8j77FsaWDRpK9Z8cyJ2GTzZU0f0jLEqNxrPCLGWwY0uYA/viewform
_ the Challonge tournament server we created, to receive official registrations for the tournament, and also where you'll be able to track the advancement of the tournament (alongside some google spreadsheet aside) → http://challonge.com/TC2018

With that, I believe the tournament is fully explained, and the thread up for posts and headsups. Feel free to ask for any prior information before taking any decisions regarding the speedrun or the tournament. Everyone is welcome to participate, the run is very easy to learn, the community is quite helpful and motivational. Don't miss out on this opportunity to join the sweet Final Fantasy community.

Yours truly,

Hello! Quick appearance, to make a little feedback on one leaderboard. Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy to be precise.

I watched couple runs as well as I chillaxy wandered around this little addon of a game, and submitted a run. The point is that I came to know, through other runs over there, that the one and only admin is gone (said it himself) and won’t be coming back to speedrunning. It’s been a good half-a-year already, and indeed, no activity, neither on twitch/smashcast/beam/whatsoeverplatform nor on speedrun.com.

Question: would it be possible to add another admin over there to take care about submissions, in case where people like me, looking for small fun moments, come and submit things?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

Problem is, us two runners tried to contact him ... No response at all. He also said himself he wouldn't run the game unless his time gets beaten and moved onto other games =\ I wouldn't go through here if I had news or at least, a bit of a news. Sorry though ... Won't disturb anymore =$

Good morning misters and mistresses!

I'm adding this post to the thread for explaining my situation. There. I'm one of the remaining runners of Jade Cocoon: Story of the Tamamayu leaderboard, and the moderator in charge of it - JackOfHearts - is absent since August 8th (not that long...but still).

Leaderboard link : http://www.speedrun.com/jadecocoon

I have two submissions for one of the two category, pending for near two weeks (a bit less for the most recent) and the specifity is both are 1st place times (one will become obsolete, and the other one, the fastests I got). There is also the other active runner who submitted a guide for beginners, to help promote the game and the speedroute of it.

My question would be the following : would it be possible to make someone check this submission in the place of JackOfHearts? And/or, would it be possible for me to apply as moderator for the leaderboard alongside JackOfHearts to avoid that problem in the near future?

Thanks in advance for taking my post into consideration. Have a fabulous day.
