Btw I have a 1:10 RTA in this category now, I didn't wanna go to the effort of doing a run but I'll be completely honest the thought of this being at a speedrunning event absolutely pains me. I appreciate what you're thinking behind this category but in practicality it just cannot exist as a speedrunning category. There's no objective, there's no goal, and, in theory, there's nothing stopping you from going into a level, pressing start, exiting the level, then classing that as an 'all levels run'

I mean this in the nicest possible way, PLEASE don't submit NG+ anything to any sort of speedrunning. I'm not trying to be horrible, but Crash is already an embarrassment as a series when it comes to live events, and not only is this not a speedrun, but it would ruin the smidge of dignity that the Crash community has as a whole within speedrunning. In most games, an NG+ category is made from a glitch in the game where you can start the save file without having actually collected anything - and there are still things to collect. In this supposed category - there is nothing to collect; there's nothing to achieve. What's stopping you from going into Weathering Heights, getting 139 boxes and coming out of it like 'yeah lol I got all the boxes prove to me otherwise' because you don't get the gem. I'm not willing to sit through and watch this pile of garbage in my own runs so I'm willing to bet that no mod's gonna sit through and watch a full run of a non-category. This is speedrunning my friend, not build a category workshop.

Yo Seasoner. My response to this is:

1) I'm not sure if there's a way to measure loadless times on console consistently and accurately - I'm not sure how much it varies.

2) PC and Console times shouldn't be split because they're not different enough in gameplay to need a different category. For example - Super Mario Galaxy split 'Any%' into 'Any% Luigi' and 'Any% Mario', which is appropriate, because you use different characters who have different properties to complete the same objective. In this instance, everything is exactly the same, but you look at load screens for a bit longer in a console run, so there's no difference in what you're doing at all - just the length of time it takes your console to load, if that makes sense. I don't feel as though giving console runners their own category solves anything, because they'll still be incomparable to PC times, and because PC's faster, all the best runners will just compete on PC. PC is also an easily accessible version, and if we use IGT, it will become even more accessible because people will worry less about their load times and be able to compare equally with other runners.

Hope that answers your questions.

Yoyo. I've heard a bunch of streamers and people in general discuss this in dotted-about places, so I feel as though we should have a centralised discussion about whether we should order the leaderboards based on IGT or RTA.

My opinion is that IGT should be the timing method to order the leaderboards - I feel as though while IGT is accurate and consistent, it's a more fair, equal way of judging a player's time as opposed to RTA. Below I'll try and address my points of view to opposing questions that I'm sure you'll have.

1) What about console runners? Should they be split?

A) Console/PC should not be split categories on the leaderboards in my opinion because there's not enough difference in gameplay between the versions to warrant it. Whilst it may be argued that console runs will now become 'more obsolete', the truth is that they're already incomparable with times on PC, so organising by IGT doesn't change this.

2) What about those on the leaderboards who have submitted without loadless times?

A) That's an issue that would be slowly ironed out over time. I ¤think¤ we're at a point where all RTA WRs have a loadless time, so it's not as if there are any incredibly strong runs on the boards that can't be beaten if the runner wants their run to be comparable again. As more runners submit with IGT, this slowly becomes less of an issue.

Was going to address more questions here but I'm having a mind-blank. I'm sure there'll be some open discussion here, so I'm interested to see what people think about this.

NG+ stands for New Game+.

There are still some runners active today, but as with most communities, people start and stop a lot. The best thing I can recommend is to follow The Simpsons: Hit and Run on your twitch following page.

Is there a community discord I could join so I can interact and ask you guys questions more easily? Thanks.

Hi guys.

I want to run this game, but at the moment I'm struggling to justify spending £20 on a game. I will do at some point regardless of the responses, but I'm interested to know what your guys' attitudes are in terms of iso loading; is it allowed for runs? Does it make a difference?

Thanks.

Hi guys, not sure where to post this so apologies if I'm in the wrong place, but please could you remove my submissions? Recent developments have made it so I cannot attend anymore, which is unfortunate.

Respect was talking to me with regards to the 'if you care that much about a free WR' comment, to which all I can respond is that I genuinely don't care if a person wants a free wr, but when the whole community acts to change a fully functional way of doing things on a desire for a free wr, then there's an issue.

Lucin, your argument about making Luigi the sole category for any% and 120 star is quite frankly absurd. What that argument suggests is that a new runner, with no save file, will not be able to do a blind run because they're not already deep enough into a save file to do that. The fact that Luigi is even a main category and not misc is nothing short of a miracle, because you're loading a save file which has already been used before - I agree in that there's no need for both, but Luigi should be considered NG+ in my opinion (although, I don't really care).

This isn't a category that can be compared to things such as 'any% no oob' because no oob changes the run in its absolute entirety. 1p vs 2p is a completely different kettle of fish because people who use 1p aren't choosing to do a different run - they're choosing to go slow.

Think of it this way. Everyone but a few people wanted SMG2 cometless off the leaderboard right away, and rightly so, because it's an arbitrary category with no purpose. I'd like to ask, and I'm being deadly serious - what is the difference between the 1p and 2p discussion and the cometless discussion?

In the cometless run, you complete the exact same category as you would in any%, but you give yourself an arbitrary restriction in that you cannot collect comet medals. Similarly, with 1p, you give yourself an arbitrary restriction to use 1 controller, as Nintendo published the game with clear advantages for 2 controllers, and we're speedrunners, so of course we abuse that. The only reason we laugh at cometless and take 1p v 2p seriously is because there are 'top' runners who use 1p who choose to not use 2p.

But they're both the same version, that's the thing. If you'd rather your times be comparable than fast, then that's on you.

I really don't understand this argument in the slightest. All I see it as is a desire for personal recognition by being able to say 'I have a wr'. Whilst 2p and 1p remain the same categories, no 1p runner can claim a 'record' unless they sub neg. I find this discussion borderline illogical and the only reason it's even under question is because neg isn't in the community anymore and people want a 'change' for the wr holder.

Let's all take a moment to remember that 1p and 2p are the exact same speedrun. Let's use any% for example, in which the player attempts to beat the game in as little time as possible. The objective is the exact same for 1p and 2p; to collect any 61 stars possible to get to the credits. This is why the two can't, and shouldn't, be separated. You can use the same route for 1p and 2p runs (albeit marginally slower to use a 2p route with 1p), and the vast majority of strategies are the exact same - to have 2 categories should mean that the whole speedrun is different, infact, I would go as far as to say that you could strongly argue that Luigi any%/120 should be considered NG+ and misc.

Also, let's not forget that we're not doing anything illegitimate to use 2p - Nintendo put this in their game, and the fact that it can be exploited for faster movement and to make new strategies should be encouraged, not separated on the sheer arbitrary basis that the current runners don't want to take the time to learn these strategies and go fast. For example, we don't see 'SMS Any% No Rocket Nozzle Skip', because this would be stupid and not needed. It's the same argument with 2p. Neg's time is beatable. If you want a wr, spend time practising and learning strats as opposed to trying to arbitrarily change how the leaderboard works to work around the fact that you 'can't be arsed' to learn 2p strats. I'm adamant the only reason people don't use 2p is because it's considered difficult; if it was as easy as 1p there would be no argument.
