It's listed as GBA because it uses the GBA release of the game.

Unlimited CC categories aren't going to happen since this leaderboard is for vanilla MKDS.

The leaderboard for Time Trials can be found on the Players' Page: http://www.mariokartplayers.com/mkds/

Thread: Start-up Boost Timing

Started by: AustinBoston07AustinBoston07

I'm not too sure what to tell you: the NTSC GP 150cc startboost is the easiest one in SMK because it's the only one with a visual cue (the timings vary from mode to mode). You want to start pressing B when you see that the bottom half of the "ROUND 1" (or equivalent) text is gone. It is worth noting that the timing is quite strict: if you start a race in 1st, then the window is only 4 frames.

ZZMT means that you zigzag to charge the MT, not after it's already charged. You need a d-pad with a shortened nub beneath the center, be it from extended use or from filing it down yourself.

That being said, I don't recommend trying ZZMT until you have a strong grasp of the basic mechanics. This means being roughly Top 30 in the Time Trial rankings (http://mariokartplayers.com/mksc/afn.php).

Thread: Leaderboard revamp

Started by: LafungoLafungo

The leaderboard has been revamped in view of the upcoming SpeedGaming tournament. NTSC/PAL and 1P/2P are now split as subcategories.

Please note that this means you will have to select your region twice when submitting runs: the usual JPN/USA/EUR parameter, as well as the new NTSC/PAL variable.

Thread: Emulators

Started by: th3pr0fil3th3pr0fil3

Sorry for the late reply.

I haven't really considered the question of which emulators are(n't) allowed, as no one in the community plays on emulator. After looking at the rules for some of the more popular SNES games here on speedrun.com, I would say that SNES9x (v1.51 and above) and BSNES are fine, whereas ZSNES is not.

Thread: Runs with no video proof?

As explained earlier in this thread, using GBP isn't viable at top level (although I've since confirmed that using GBI instead of the official GBP software resolves the issue).

As for my Mushroom Cup run, it's taken from my All Cups run at the time (as mentioned in the run comment). You can watch it here:

Thread: Runs with no video proof?

Shock's run was set during an SRL race, as seen here: http://www.speedrunslive.com/races/result/#!/48697.

That aside, as explained earlier in this thread: if you're looking for concrete evidence that Shock set a 59:42, there is none. The run wasn't verified in a vacuum; the run was verified because Shock is.

For the same reason we don't use lapskips in Time Trials: they're unfun and uninteresting.

Thread: Runs with no video proof?

I appreciate your concern, but I do not plan on removing Shock's time from the leaderboards.

MKSC has a small (compared to the rest of the series) but active community that is almost entirely focused on Time Trials (you can find a link to the rankings by clicking here or on the "Website / Wikipedia" link in the side bar). Shock has been the reigning Time Trial champ since April 2012, currently holds 69/80 Non-SC WRs (as seen here), and has video evidence for the vast majority of his Time Trial records over the years.

Due to the nature of the game's mechanics, the only viable ways to play at top level are either on GBA or DS (or their variants, such as the GBA SP or DS Lite). This makes it very inconvenient and/or costly to record MKSC speedruns (at top level). Due to general lack of interest in speedruns within the community, coupled with MKSC's great replay system for Time Trials, no one in the community (aside from me) has bothered to invest in "proper" recording equipment (aka a DS capture card).

You're free to ignore Shock's time if the lack of video bothers you. However, I think it's important to keep it on the leaderboard as it is accepted by the community as the WR, and it would be disingenuous to call my time a WR, because Shock has several runs faster that mine (primarily from community SRL races in 2013). I've even witnessed Shock do a run faster than mine at a community meet in summer 2017.

MKWRs is not the reason that TT leaderboards don't exist on SRC. The reason is the Players' Page, which you can find here ( http://www.mariokartplayers.com/mk8/ ) or via the "Website / Wikipedia" link in the sidebar.

Thread: Loading time on home screen lafungo look at this

Started by: OBSIDIAUSOBSIDIAUS

My personal stance is that resets between cups shouldn't be allowed. They introduce differences based on hardware while having no impact on gameplay. I don't think it's worthwhile to allow resets, because all hardware being equal is conducive to healthier competition, and sacrificing that for a few seconds of loading times/screen transitions doesn't seem worth it.

To my knowledge, no existing runs (with video) on the leaderboards have resets.
