Thread: IGT vs RTA

Wouldn't that require manual split entering? The main issue now is the world map, because that in itself is part of the run, there's no timer for it, and there's a skip in it for Any%.

Though, if someone were willing to set up LiveSplit's autosplitter, it may work well.

Then how are we going to record IGT? That's the million dollar one question that always comes next.

The big question is, varied loading times. What do we do to deal with those?

Thread: A bug/feature in the Android Google Play release which could revolutionize any%?

As much fun as this would be for a run, the most you can hope for is the game to be separated into its own version category (Android) because of that gargantuan difference in playtime. This also takes me back to why, most often, major glitches are excluded from runs, because they skip very large portions or all of the game. (Think like the credits warp in Super Mario World)

The fact of the matter is, if you're skipping every level before the boss, all it is now is:
- A cutscene.
- A character select.
- A trip through the world map.
- A single race.

Technically this does meet the criteria for Any%, but the change in time is so astronomical that it should end up being its own category or version instead of just Any%. That, or the current notion of "Any%" should become its own category. Either or.

Thread: Built-in timer mod for Story Mode speedruns

I'm very glad you went out of your way to figure out how to make this work. I still like my timer, however, if that's still allowed to be a thing. I like having the splits tell me where I should be going next.

My own personal solution to the problem to Co-Op was going to be multi-logging two toons and have them duo throughout the entire game. Would that classify as.. 1P2C I guess?

I was considering doing an all-tasks myself and doing the whole thing in one sitting, actually. I'm already aware that it'll probably take over 24 hours.

You can make twitch save your livestreams for you as well if you use twitch. Go to your Dashboard, then settings.

I usually just slow down with brake just enough to make it go away and drift a bit afterwards. If I'm lucky enough, I can drift and slow down to get instant retribution after.

I know I can get it. I just haven't been bothered to go get it as of late because I prefer 0.9.3 is all.
I was being honest about not having your version still. But I will consider getting 0.8.1 sometime soon I guess.

Cripes, I didn't expect someone to pull out the ability to skip the giant door. I thought that place up above was blocked off by invisible walls! The surprises...

Great, now I have to route out Any% too. It'll be fun!

I think for character selection, it would be best to use a standard kart. Custom karts should get the O.K. from a board mod first if that's the case.

Or you could just call the category "Time Attack" like most racing games do.

I spent almost 5 hours trying to find all the collectables in a game semi-blind and timed it too, and submitted it to the board because I had a good time doing so. Maybe some people are just more patient than others? If you don't want to do long drawn out runs, you can always just suggest smaller categories like MCMic did. I mean not everyone has the time in their life to play a single game for an hour+ let alone a couple attempts of it. Maybe the Gran Prix could each be game runs? They do constitute as more than one race, and might be encouraging for players wanting to dip into the game.

So, my mother discovered this seed earlier, which happens to have a woodland mansion and an ocean monument directly adjacent to the spawn point. I found this amazingly lucky.

Seed: 684904324306405549

I don't know if it works in the current version, but maybe it could be useful for some of you in the community. At least you can snatch up a Totem of Undying.

You can in fact beat the game without golding every single challenge. The game just requires you to get at least a trophy in each challenge and at least 180 points to battle Nolok.

If the game didn't require you to beat every single challenge then Any% might be more viable, since you could pick and choose which challenges you don't want to play, and naturally, all golding nets the most challenge skips. Of course our main goal would be to skip the GPs because they take the longest.

I might give 0.8.1 a try some time. Would be cool to stuff 100% in there with it too. It's been a while since I played the 0.8.x versions, but back then I just played intentionally most of the time, so I didn't explore a lot of the potential shortcuts.

Well the main thing is I play the latest version, so I wanted to see if one lap using your method was faster or slower in 0.9.3 and it wasn't. Though if the grass is slower in earlier versions, then yes cutting through the grass might be slower. But I don't have your version so I can't really test that.

Oh, I just noticed that. Nice of you to point that out or I would have missed it, since I wanted to see one lap and compare it. Nor did I know there was version differences.

Sadly no, it's faster to cut the grass. Though that's a way to do the cut without river hopping in case the river hop gets fixed.
