I swear I'm not trying to be purposefully dense or start any arguments. But I am genuinely confused about the rules. Anyways this isn't meant to be an attack on the mod team, just an opportunity to make the rules a little cleaner/concise looking.
Just wanted to clarify that.

Also if you don't want to allow double dipping you could enforce a "All runs must be unique" requirement. I've seen this done on other boards before. I think it would be less arbitrary sounding then "If your S-Rank is faster than Any%"

Im not asking for a rule change, just for them to be clarified in the rules page.

"If your S-Rank run is faster than Any%, please still only submit to S-Rank." should be changed to "Any% is ONLY for Non S-Rank submissions" In the rules. I think adding the qualifier of "If your S-Rank run is faster" is whats causing the confusion here.

From what Im gathering it says I can submit S-Rank runs to Any%, but they have to be slower then Any% WR.
This is just such an arbitrary restriction.
You don't need to rename the board or anything, just clarify the rules so people know the Any% board is for Non S-Rank times, assuming Im interpreting SRGT's explanation correctly.

When I read;
"If your S-Rank run is faster than Any%, please still only submit to S-Rank."
I interpret this as if you achieve an S-Rank run that beats the current Any% time, you can only submit to S-Rank, but you cannot submit to Any%.
I don't see why, because you can fulfill both categories requirements.
I believe "If your S-Rank run is faster than Any%, please still only submit to S-Rank." should be changed to "Any% is ONLY for Non S-Rank submissions" In the rules.
or just rename Any% to Non S-Rank.

This poses the issue that if you were 2nd place on an Any% IL, and your S-Rank run was faster. In order to claim WR you would have to do the same S-Rank run, but kill 1 guard, or take 1 alert, to lose the S-Rank so you could submit to Any%.

My question isn't about the name of the category, but rather why can't you submit the same run to both if you fulfill both requirements? In VR2 you can submit the same run to both Fastest Time and Highest Score leader boards. Nearly all Sneaking Missions are that exact thing, the same run submitted twice. But PW IL's rules say you can only submit to Any% if your S-Rank run is faster than your Any% run. This is why I referred to it as a dump for S-Rank runs that die on good pace.

"Any% is for non S-Rank submissions. All items and comms are allowed. Submit In Game Time.
If your S-Rank run is faster than Any%, please still only submit to S-Rank."

Any% is by definition not Any% if S-Rank runs are not allowed. If you fulfill both categories requirements, you should be able to submit to both. How fast your S-Rank run is shouldn't matter. Its almost like having a secondary board exclusive to people who can't achieve S-Rank. Basically to my understanding it seems the Any% board just serves as a backup plan to submit to if your S-Rank run dies on good pace.

I understand the rules, I just don't understand why they are written this way.

Once again, if this literally skipped the end of the hind fight, and the hind was removed from the game with its health depleted to 0 then I'd be all for it.

But the Hind is there still attacking you for 30 seconds, just because it has no health does not mean it's dead or defeated.
The hind is still there waiting for you.

I'd like to point out that I don't think level up = boss defeated. Just because the game gives you the level up when you defeat the boss does not make it the end all be all.
Boss defeated imo means you can no longer fight that boss in the run.
That's why the rules have two requirements.
Defeat the boss AND deplete health to zero.

Therfore Wolf 2 shuffle is fine. Explosion skip is not.

Allowing explosion skip is basically making an arbitrary ruleset for what we're allowed to skip in the run, and changing the rules to ban Wolf 2 shuffle is pointless because runs that use it abided by the current ruleset.
I'd just run glitchless if you really view the shuffle as skipping the boss.

I believe defeated in the rules means that the boss can no longer be fought.
"You must defeat every boss in the game, this includes their life bars."
Think about it like this, in Any% when you enter Commander Room, the game considers Mantis as defeated, but the All Bosses rules simultaneously require the health to be depleted to zero.
When you COCK glitch through the Wolf 2 trigger, the game considers her defeated, however you are required to have lowered her health to zero for it to be valid for All Bosses.
Neither of these bosses could be fought a second time in the run under these conditions.

Therefore skipping Wolf 2 "level up" is allowed because you never skipped the boss, the boss is in fact defeated and can no longer be fought, and you lowered her HP to zero. This fulfills both requirements.

Explosion skip would not be allowed because the Hind is not defeated, you can still fight it. You only fulfilled one requirement for a valid All Bosses run.

None of these options are hills I'm willing to die on, so I abstain.
I like discussions so I'll drop my take at least.
I say 1 makes the most sense given the fact the boss respawns. This really doesn't skip anything, its basically the same thing as just dying to the final Hind missiles and getting a continue.

I think the question lies in if the game respawns the boss. If you COCK glitch out of the Wolf 2 fight, and then re-enter Snowfield, the game doesn't respawn Wolf 2, therefore the game counts her as defeated, however if you re-enter Hind, does the Hind respawn? If so then I'd vote option 1.

And Finally
@PlywoodPlywood In response to "Decisions made always affect future and potential runs, but hypothetical runners are just that."

That's true and new runners have to abide by the rules set before they arrived, I'm not expecting that to change. However we are here and present for this vote, and I'd put a run in the queue right now if it meant my vote would be counted, because I want to run this game with analog.

Rules set in 1998 affect the runs posted in 2022, but todays runners were not present in any form when those rules were made, we are here right now. You have changed the way polls have always been done in the series in order to exclude us and backed it up with an SRDC mod screenshot, even though you violating site rules was never even in question.

At the end of the day everybody has to abide by these rules set. So on the topic of the discussion, the main point I'm trying to make is: I removed my runs because of the environment in MGSR, but I would like to submit to the boards again, when I submit I will have to abide by whatever rules are set at that time.

Its a completely arbitrary restriction to say if I had submitted one Any% run on the board back in 2010 and was never active until today I would have a valid vote. But people who had a run on the board less than a year ago and have since removed it are not allowed to vote at all.
Especially when I raced this game on the MGSR Twitch channel against Glenn, and Apache ran it at UKSG.

@MetalGlennSolidMetalGlennSolid
I liked being part of the board, I'm trying to be a part of the board.
I stopped being part of the board given the uncomfortable environment brewing in the community, as well as many others.
Having every message you sent in a private server articulated in some weird hit piece kind of took a toll on people.
I hate this being spun simply as people threw a tantrum and deleted their runs.
Sorry to keep bringing this up, but if we are using deleted runs as a reason for exclusion from the community, I believe its important to highlight why people felt the need to remove their runs.

@PlywoodPlywood
Also once again, please consider how votes have always been counted in the past compared to this vote.
I personally don't care how SRDC responded to you or even see how that is relevant. I never thought you were breaking site rules, I'm pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of how you wanted to tally votes in this poll vs the past.

On the topic of slow verification and WR prioritization.

I don't think anyone expects WRs to be verified first, but 25 days for a historically significant run is kind of insane.
We understand people have personal lives, but its wrong for people to wait a month to have their WR achievement verified, by the time its on the board it could already be beaten.
Its even more wrong whenever you have someone who has an insanely good track record with verification and board management trying to volunteer to help again and you refuse it because of a grudge, whenever the current team of 6 can't keep up as it is.

Also saying this only affects runners who have runs on the boards is so disingenuous.
This affects all future runners too, and as someone who literally was actively trying to get an impressive time to post on SRDC. I'm a future (and current) runner who is being effected by this.
Stop with the elitist take that this only effects "people who are stakeholders in the boards." You know that's a lie, this effects everyone who plans on submitting to the boards.

We're seriously going to tell new runners "yeah analog exists but you cant use it because the minority knowingly excluded the majority during the poll for it"

People that haven't played the game in 5 years get to vote. But not people who are ready to submit right now???

@PlywoodPlywood
You realize that your actions are the reasons multiple peoples runs are no longer listed including my own. My runs were not removed because "I disagreed with who runs the board" I removed my runs long before a moderation change even took place on SRDC.
I removed them because of you giving away the MGSR server without talking to literally ANYBODY in MGSR. I disassociated from the community because of your actions directly, and the toxicity created by the new leaders you appointed without informing anyone.
I removed my runs because your community made me uncomfortable. Over time I have grown and by making and extending friendships in LC I decided to return to the boards. My SRDC account was re-made before this thread was created, not to argue for analog, but because I believed it would pass unanimously and I was eager to submit runs to the board again with the new patch, as it reignited my interest in the game.
You can literally see me running Any% and practicing all bosses here 10 days ago:
This thread was created 4 days ago.
You know yourself I'm a runner of this game, and you are trying to exclude me, along with anybody else who removed their runs, to get your way.
If you truly cared about the community this would be a vote for all runners of the game.
You know that your actions caused these runs to be removed, and now you are using that to your advantage.

However I'm sure you have jumped through every mental gymnastic to justify your position, and its this kind of behavior you're putting on display right now that caused people to remove their runs. I honestly cannot believe the audacity of this.

Looking at analog movement as some sort of gateway drug to allowing full blown cheating is a really lame argument.

I would like to point out that the slippery slope take is kind of ludicrous, I'm sure every runner of MGS1 would agree that consistent Boba or PAL RNG would not be QoL but just completely cheating.

As for the mod itself I believe it should be allowed. Most areas fall in line with PC D-pad even with analog movement (Cannot continue moving during miller codec, movement delay when going from Medi Room to Cell) in the areas where it does not, it falls in line with Console, therefore this is a perfect implementation of the analog in games.
Also nobody's been playing MGS1 PC by Digital Dialect since it released because it doesn't freaking run on anything. Why should we worry so hard about strictly adhering to the unfinished half-cooked version of the game, when it was clearly made as fast as possible with literally no quality assurance.
I welcome all patches that fix MGS1 PC, all this will do is lower the skill floor and raise the skill ceiling. I don't care whos version of MGS1 I play, as along as its a good speed-run that isn't going to crash, soft-lock, or have broken music every 15 seconds.

Edit: Also I'm unsure on how to moderate it but I do not want to see any board splits.
