I swear I'm not trying to be purposefully dense or start any arguments. But I am genuinely confused about the rules. Anyways this isn't meant to be an attack on the mod team, just an opportunity to make the rules a little cleaner/concise looking. Also if you don't want to allow double dipping you could enforce a "All runs must be unique" requirement. I've seen this done on other boards before. I think it would be less arbitrary sounding then "If your S-Rank is faster than Any%" |

Im not asking for a rule change, just for them to be clarified in the rules page. "If your S-Rank run is faster than Any%, please still only submit to S-Rank." should be changed to "Any% is ONLY for Non S-Rank submissions" In the rules. I think adding the qualifier of "If your S-Rank run is faster" is whats causing the confusion here. From what Im gathering it says I can submit S-Rank runs to Any%, but they have to be slower then Any% WR. |

This poses the issue that if you were 2nd place on an Any% IL, and your S-Rank run was faster. In order to claim WR you would have to do the same S-Rank run, but kill 1 guard, or take 1 alert, to lose the S-Rank so you could submit to Any%. |

My question isn't about the name of the category, but rather why can't you submit the same run to both if you fulfill both requirements? In VR2 you can submit the same run to both Fastest Time and Highest Score leader boards. Nearly all Sneaking Missions are that exact thing, the same run submitted twice. But PW IL's rules say you can only submit to Any% if your S-Rank run is faster than your Any% run. This is why I referred to it as a dump for S-Rank runs that die on good pace. |

"Any% is for non S-Rank submissions. All items and comms are allowed. Submit In Game Time. Any% is by definition not Any% if S-Rank runs are not allowed. If you fulfill both categories requirements, you should be able to submit to both. How fast your S-Rank run is shouldn't matter. Its almost like having a secondary board exclusive to people who can't achieve S-Rank. Basically to my understanding it seems the Any% board just serves as a backup plan to submit to if your S-Rank run dies on good pace. I understand the rules, I just don't understand why they are written this way. |

Once again, if this literally skipped the end of the hind fight, and the hind was removed from the game with its health depleted to 0 then I'd be all for it. But the Hind is there still attacking you for 30 seconds, just because it has no health does not mean it's dead or defeated. |
Forum: Metal Gear Solid Thread: New skip/clarification of the rules(vote) Started by: |
I'd like to point out that I don't think level up = boss defeated. Just because the game gives you the level up when you defeat the boss does not make it the end all be all. Therfore Wolf 2 shuffle is fine. Explosion skip is not. Allowing explosion skip is basically making an arbitrary ruleset for what we're allowed to skip in the run, and changing the rules to ban Wolf 2 shuffle is pointless because runs that use it abided by the current ruleset. |
Forum: Metal Gear Solid Thread: New skip/clarification of the rules(vote) Started by: |
I believe defeated in the rules means that the boss can no longer be fought. Therefore skipping Wolf 2 "level up" is allowed because you never skipped the boss, the boss is in fact defeated and can no longer be fought, and you lowered her HP to zero. This fulfills both requirements. Explosion skip would not be allowed because the Hind is not defeated, you can still fight it. You only fulfilled one requirement for a valid All Bosses run. |

None of these options are hills I'm willing to die on, so I abstain. |

I think the question lies in if the game respawns the boss. If you COCK glitch out of the Wolf 2 fight, and then re-enter Snowfield, the game doesn't respawn Wolf 2, therefore the game counts her as defeated, however if you re-enter Hind, does the Hind respawn? If so then I'd vote option 1. |

And Finally That's true and new runners have to abide by the rules set before they arrived, I'm not expecting that to change. However we are here and present for this vote, and I'd put a run in the queue right now if it meant my vote would be counted, because I want to run this game with analog. Rules set in 1998 affect the runs posted in 2022, but todays runners were not present in any form when those rules were made, we are here right now. You have changed the way polls have always been done in the series in order to exclude us and backed it up with an SRDC mod screenshot, even though you violating site rules was never even in question. |

At the end of the day everybody has to abide by these rules set. So on the topic of the discussion, the main point I'm trying to make is: I removed my runs because of the environment in MGSR, but I would like to submit to the boards again, when I submit I will have to abide by whatever rules are set at that time. Its a completely arbitrary restriction to say if I had submitted one Any% run on the board back in 2010 and was never active until today I would have a valid vote. But people who had a run on the board less than a year ago and have since removed it are not allowed to vote at all. |

@MetalGlennSolidMetalGlennSolid @PlywoodPlywood On the topic of slow verification and WR prioritization. I don't think anyone expects WRs to be verified first, but 25 days for a historically significant run is kind of insane. |

Also saying this only affects runners who have runs on the boards is so disingenuous. We're seriously going to tell new runners "yeah analog exists but you cant use it because the minority knowingly excluded the majority during the poll for it" People that haven't played the game in 5 years get to vote. But not people who are ready to submit right now??? |

@PlywoodPlywood However I'm sure you have jumped through every mental gymnastic to justify your position, and its this kind of behavior you're putting on display right now that caused people to remove their runs. I honestly cannot believe the audacity of this. |

Looking at analog movement as some sort of gateway drug to allowing full blown cheating is a really lame argument. |

I would like to point out that the slippery slope take is kind of ludicrous, I'm sure every runner of MGS1 would agree that consistent Boba or PAL RNG would not be QoL but just completely cheating. As for the mod itself I believe it should be allowed. Most areas fall in line with PC D-pad even with analog movement (Cannot continue moving during miller codec, movement delay when going from Medi Room to Cell) in the areas where it does not, it falls in line with Console, therefore this is a perfect implementation of the analog in games. Edit: Also I'm unsure on how to moderate it but I do not want to see any board splits. |
