Thread: dgVoodoo for fixing crashes on Dino2 PC

Started by: JulianJulian

@666Deadhunter666Deadhunter The patch will fix the problem related to not starting the game with other program. Could be done something like limit the fps making the game stable for most of the PCs.

About using the autosplitter: That would help you a lot since the game is based in the same IGT of RE2 PC where the mods made it mandatary for not abusing of the low FPS and no spliced runs, this will help you tracking and verifying better the runs done on PC.

Mandatory autosplitter
- The autosplitter will be mandatory for PC runs and it's easy to configurate it for anyone. I shared a video that we use for RE2 done by @StevenMayteStevenMayte who explains easily how to set it in Livesplit
- Console and emulator runs won't be attached to the mandatory autosplitter.

Current runs submitted without autosplitter
- In my opinion we could have the rule applying after the point you're agreed with this. Current runs submitted on PC (Hard, Normal, etc.) won't be affected with the rule. Just the runs submitted after this is evaluated and accepted (If that happens)

Let us know your thoughts. 😃

@666Deadhunter666Deadhunter other stuff that has been working on is an autosplitter for the PC version of the game, with that we could take the leaderboards completely based in IGT and without unfair reasons of RTA since the framerate is broken while the patch is being developed. This could work as Resident Evil 2 PC which is the clear example of weird frame jumps.

So far the progress is that the autosplitter is done for the JPN version and we're working on for the USA version. Anything you have it or any concerns please let us know.

Autosplitter added to the resource section, everything is explained in the video of how to attach it to the game.

We could do some series of tests if you're agreed with this, i know we have the same stuff of the PC speed is having different framerates but well, everything comes to you and Dodi as mods, we're opened to anything that is needed.

As far as i remember, the IGT of the game is based in the framerate of the game (same as RE2 from other forum threads opened here) So that shouldn't be a problem after all.

That's correct, while is bringing weird load times, that would be considered, so far i think there's no problem with that. If you can test it out, that would be awesome.

Alright, so after testing a lot of alternatives for the PC version of this game, there's an alternative that we'd like to bring.

There's a program called dgVoodoo that has a lot of W98 x86 DLL files that can be integrated in old games that require them.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/588055703181066298/630596329575546929/unknown.png

It works with modern OS like Windows 10

Download it here http://dege.freeweb.hu/

Just put them in the .exe folder of the game and it fixed the crashes

Since almost everyone are having random crashes of this game (like for example at the Triceratops section) this would give an air to this port. To the mods the question is, this would be accepted? Anything you need, don't hesitate to ask here 😃

PD: This contribution was done by @Se3cretSe3cret

Update: The person who managed in developing some DLLs for fixing RE1 PC is also working in something similar for Dino Crisis 2 PC, so far the results are awesome.

It's alright @If_And_WhileIf_And_While 🙂 i guess there's no problems if you use the PAL PS1 with modchip, we could check if there's a big affectation vs other runs. (Before submitting the run, please share the link of the video of course)

About PAL version only on real hardware: Technically yes, PS1 emu accepts PAL versions too, the only big restriction is on PC where we had a leaderboards with a ton of TWN and JPN runs, sadly 2 runs done on USA sourcenext (a really bad port) and 1 EUR run done on PC, it was discussed we should keep just the 2 most popular versions of the PC.

As @NulliferBonesNulliferBones mentioned, modding the game could afect in the time loads could be faster/slower depending of the console.

About the emulators @If_And_WhileIf_And_While in this game we're not very strict with the use of an specific emulator, just make sure mentioning the emulator and version that you used in your run at the comments section and everything's alright. Of course keep in mind that the emulator used has to be only for PS1 purposes and other emulators like Dolphin or PCSX2 are not allowed because they're dedicated for other platforms and they're too unstable and have insane/weird load times.

My suggestions for the easiest to the hardest are to use are listed here:

- Bizhawk (With mednafen core, easy to change this core)
- Mednafen (Almost ready to play)
- PXJin 2.0.2 (Using the JPN bios)
- ePSXe 1.9.0 (This one only works with the video plugin P.ePos 1.7)

If you have any problems with setting the emu, don't hesitate to post the issue here, and we'll try to help you 🙂

Same issue here, seems it's a hardware stuff that makes that happening, still don't know what causes this crash on the PC version. Probably checking if you have a dedicated video card chaging the priorities between resources could work.

Hi @ri1ixri1ix that acid of the waste disposal Nemesis fight does not do any damage, if you use the SRT provided in the resources of this site, you'll notice Jill's HP doesn't decrease her health after touching the acid. This is usefull because you can get iframes using that.

Thread: Grenade Launcher tool for runs and changes in the moderation of RE3

Started by: JulianJulian

1st of all i want to thank everyone of this game who put efforts for making the game more competitive to the point that we thought it couldn't be reached and as i've said in other places, the game is being worked in perfect ways it's because of you.

2nd. As some of you notice @MoeMoe_7MoeMoe_7 accepted to be moderator of RE3 and RE3CE and he was added recently, so i'd like to give the best wishes in this game 😃 I'll be removing myself from the moderation of this gamea after almost 3 years where i felt good in helping in what i could, i don't have the same time as before and i simply want to give the chance to active runners who can perform better results as mod of this game.

And the last topic i want to bring here: As i've heard in some streams, people wanted to know if the GL Tool which allows you getting the GL 100% of the times is accepted or not in the game. In the past, there was a thread of the SRT asking of this tool and the majority were agreed in not accepting it or just creating a new category with this tool - https://www.speedrun.com/re3/thread/w8koz

I want to bring this topic again to know your opinions of why this tool should be / not should be accepted for future runs in the game, everything with respect in this thread, mods will be reading your opinions.

Thanks everyone! 🙂

Thread: Grave Digger Ladder Skip

Started by: JulianJulian

Hey guys, i wanted to bring this to everyone.

Years ago i found a video which not sure if is completly deleted where @DudleyDudley does a weird skip of the Grave Digger done on the GC version of the game, mentioning it was only possible on that version.

In the past month i decided double checking this and i found a video where @RebeccaRERebeccaRE had the same situation, done on GC JPN a clip was recorded here
https://www.twitch.tv/rebeccare/clip/KnottyTentativeCodWOOP

So i decided to check if that thing about being an exclusive glitch it was only possible on the GC version, since i didn't understand how it worked i decided doing this on PS1 emulator using Bizhawk, using savestates and trying everything until it happened.

This skip mostly aims to be a thing in almost all the versions, i still not don't know why that happens because i tried in the JPN version of the game and it doesn't work (Remember there are 2 versions for the PS1 port) so i decided going more depth with the PC version where i couldn't get any results except from @wolfdncwolfdnc shows it activated the trigger in a different place, causing a softlock.
https://www.twitch.tv/wolfdnc/clip/DreamyMiniatureQueleaDoritosChip

I tried doing the same thing on PS1 and indeed i got the same softlock, which mostly aims this skip only works if you're close to the exit as the YouTube video

How much time it saves?
6 secs. I tried doing this with the 1 cycle worm but he blockes my way so i can't trigger the cutscene in the correct way, also i'm almost sure this can't be performed with the 1 cycle worm because it requires to be at the exit. This could've been saving 26 secs instead of the normal 20 of the fight.

So... that being said, i only found this could decrease the time lost over the non-1 cycle worm which costs only 14 secs. Unless somebody finds a way for triggering the cutscene without the softlock in any place this could be a new time save 🙂

Hopefully somebody else will find a better way for this. Cheers!

@SymmSymm that fuction of the F9 is proper of the SRT that prevents doing the old thing we used to do which was closing/opening the game. That's how it works, if you press F9 without the SRT the game closes itself and doesn't save the difficulty you choosed.

Remember the only way for going back to the custome select is pressing F9 😉 without the SRT you must close and open the game and after that the properties of having light HP over the heavy are gone becuase you had to close the game.
