Forum: Star Fox Adventures

Thread: New category idea

I'm already kinda bugged by every category other than any%. Believe me, this game isn't close to broken enough for a whole bunch of categories. Having a category that is exactly the same as another category, only it cuts off at some earlier point seems absolutely pointless.
Spellstone 2 is really the only category I'm considering removing. It doesn't bring anything new to the game.
Spellstone 1 has the exclusive DIME trick that saves around 5 minutes.
Moonjump% is... you know, broken af.
When 100% is created, it will include all the staff upgrades, so...
Also, there's already been a forum post for different categories called... "Different Categories" btw

I looked at every section with major skip glitches. I don't think I saw any either.
For all we know, the submitted runs with no video proof could be glitchless as well. But given, there is no proof so I guess Mushroom gets it by default.
I seriously want to switch his run to glitchless. Would be fucking hilarious.

Was it really? Should I actually put it on?

Ok. So if everyone agrees with the rules, I'll go ahead and create the category.

If everything is good, how should the rules be described? Just list what isn't allowed?

staff swapping was used before superquake skip became a thing. Without ground quake, superquake couldn't be used. A way to get around this was to set super quake to 'Y' and then press 'A' on FireBlaster. Then press 'Y' and 'A' at the same time. This let superquake be used without using mana as well. So... it's a glitch, no doubt,

Clipping can be considered a glitch, so everything else sounds good?

Barrel Clipping is also in CRF, so it can't be used there as well.
I think save quitting and death abuse should be aloud. I can't see why they shouldn't be unless they cause glitches. They're not glitches in SFA.

Without Cape Claw Early, the second spirit has to be obtained and deposited.
So the following shouldn't be allowed:
Dark Ice Mines Gate Loading Glitch
Cape Claw Early
Baby CloudRunner Skip
Red Eye King Early
Super Quake Skip (Staff Swapping can't be used)
Walled City Oob Underground
General Scales Glitch.

Allowed:
Dark Ice Mines Seam Walk
Ocean Temple Window Jump

Not sure about the Barrel Clip in Dragon Rock...

Ya, it needs to be called 100%. The 99% could mean any% glitchless as well. It has no relevance to 100%.
I think I've included basically everything that wouldn't be considered a max% incentive. The Key item thing is kinda a grey area for me. There should still be a few skips in the run such as the DIM gate unloading and REK Early. It seems pointless since we get rid of most key items anyway. I don't think Baby CR skip is viable since we need them for bafomdads (I think).

Spellstone 2 and Moonjump% could be misc.

SFA 100% Requirements
Finish the game with the items listed below:
All Spellstones obtained and deposited
All Krazoa Spirits obtained and deposited.
All 8 Cheat Tokens obtained and deposited
All Maps purchased
All Magic Upgrades obtained
All Shop upgrades purchased
All 75 overworld fuel cells obtained
All 35 Bafomdads obtained
All Scarab Bags obtained
All Key Items obtained/deposited

I don't think having max inventor items is a good idea. What other game requires 100% to include max currency or whatever? That should be the division within Max%.

I'm actually starting to lean towards including everything. 100% should be as long as possible. Like Thousand Year Door, Super Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, etc. Could it also include 255 fuel cells? The argument with "You can just buy them all at the shop" is invalid because it's quicker to get the 75 through out the process of beating the game rather than the tedious and slow process of buying the extra 75.

I believe there are 35 total. A gamefaq lists them all and notes which ones are missable.

So basically that would include no major skips if every item needs to be obtained (which I'm fine with) such as the cloudrunner flute, gold/silver teeth etc.
And every bafomdad collected would mean dying more times than I can count. It's just weird because what other speed game does that?

I'ts kind of the same thing with fuel cells and bafomdads.
We deposit the stones/spirits. Cheat tokens should be the same.

Cheats are an incentive. The game acknowledges that you deposited them. It rewards you. That's why I think they should be deposited. All though not all of them give cheats. Idk

So from what I've seen, Narbe and Usiku are the only two runners who have done 100% (assuming both runs were gone by the same definition).
Those two runs:
-Deposited all spirits/stones
-Bought all Maps
-Bought all Upgrades
-Obtained every Staff Upgrade/Magic Increase
Collected and deposited all 8 Cheat Tokens
(Correct me if any of this is wrong)
So really, 100% was always a thing. There have been runs of it. It should go off of whatever it is. The rules that have already been set are fine as is. They make sense. A lot of categories start out that way. For example, Paper Mario TTYD times the credits because the first ever run did it.
If fuel cells are added, then bafomdads are added. They are both perishables. They both play similar roles. So really, the only way to solve this is to not add either of them.

A problem I still have is whether we have to deposit stones/spirits. I think we should. The only trick I think that will cancel out is Cape Claw Early.
I'm also not sure if it's still faster to get the 2nd spirit and then do cape claw early as opposed to going to krazoa palace to place it in. Either way, this shouldn't be the determining of whether to place the stones/spirits in or not. And really, isn't it only the second spirit that can't be turned in? 1st spellstone has to be turned in to get the 2nd spirit.
So, just for one spirit, it doesn't make sense.

What has been done for 100% already makes sense. We should just go off of that. It's been done already. If no one else is giving input, I'd assume it's either because they don't have anything against it or they don't care.

It's not like we can add the 75 fuel cells and not be aloud to buy them. That's like banning something that is intended in the game.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who brought up the fuel cells anyway. People went haywire over it for some reason.
Bafomdads are even more arbitrary. Enough said there.
The 100% counter is suppose to reach 99% without sequence breaks. So, casually, that's the only outcome and doesn't effect anything, giving it no incentive.
