How much faster is the game on 360? I have a 360, and I plan on buying the game later this year.

I know the 360 version will be faster due to load times thanks to the DVD drive and hard drive installation to make loading even shorter, more overpowered golems, and faster bosses due to power HP.

Thread: Why the switch to English in MM any%

Started by: whitelyyywhitelyyy

Though top players like thesausage and Ennopp don't even go for the English TCS. I can see why. With the current route, it is night when you're at Zora Cape. I think the SoDT TCS skip only works during the day, like English Mikau CS skip, but don't quote me on that.

So if you have to play Song of Double Time twice, I can see why the JP TCS skip is faster, since it's basically that skip with English loading zones.

For Doctor Mario, he actually uses in game time. 1 minute 3 seconds; a terrible time, but still 2nd place when he should be in last.

I don't know what's going on here.

Thread: Orre Colosseum category

Started by: JackoTSCJackoTSC

I'm in the process of creating a segmented run of XD from a fresh file to the Eldes fight of the Orre Colosseum.

It's similar to All Gold Symbols in Emerald, in that it's long, difficult, and not going to be an official category anytime soon.

It took a while to route a team of four, and it's going to take a while to catch, reset for specific IVs, purify, grind, and somewhat EV train to even stand a chance in the Orre Colosseum.

My original route had Larvitar, but with the amount of luck needed to get a wooper, trade it, reset for good IVs, and train it to Tyranitar, I thought that catching a Shadow Salamence would be a better option.

My team: Espeon, Snorlax, Salamence, and Zapdos.

This segmented run will take a while to make, considering the amount of hax crap in Pokemon games. It's also suboptimal, so expect a bunch of mistakes equal to a bad TAS.

It's a dumb idea, since the "Intended" way to play MM is very arbitrary depending on who you ask, but I feel like it would be a good meme category. Maybe part of the category extensions.

It's just like Dank% in OoT and MM. A funny meme, and nothing else.

GCN is also the slowest version of the game. Pause buffering is easier compared to 64, but it has a bunch of lag where the other versions don't. In South Clock Town on the first day, I swear it runs at sub 10 fps. It also crashes way too much for its own good, at least from my experience.

It's not even the GameCube's hardware that's at fault, it's the terrible emulator on the Zelda Collector's edition disk.

There is a Mt Battle for battle mode, but it either let's you use a Story Mode party, or a party of pokemon from the GBA games. No rentals. Most videos of Battle Mode that I have seen use EV trained mons from the GBA games.

I'm trying to route some Colosseum Battles in Battle Mode using genned Pokemon that have perfect IV's, EV distribution, etc. for theoretically, a faster run. Even though these stats are impossible to get without breeding, which you can't do in Colosseum and XD.

Battle Mode has some potentially interesting miscellaneous/meme categories, because of how bloody difficult some of the Colosseum Battles and the latter half of Mount Battle are if you aren't prepared.

Overall, it's similar to Stadium, but there are no rental Pokemon in this game.

Yeah, I can see that. Most videos of battle mode and XD Orre Colosseum that I have seen use EV trained mons traded from the GBA games. It would be difficult to route a run without optimal IV's, EV distribution, etc. But it could work, maybe.

I could see it working without genning, but it requires a ton of resets in Story Mode to get the team that you want for the colosseum battles. Unless you're the luckiest person alive, getting perfect IV'S for the desired stat first try.

I'm currently in the process of routing Tower Colosseum with my current team. (Umbreon, Espeon, Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Heracross.) It's a team that is optimized for Singles, but not Doubles. The team is also optimized for getting very lucky in a run, since the Pokemon that the AI sends out is random.

An example is battle 4 of Tower Colosseum Singles. Sent Raikou out first, all three of the AI's mons were weak against Thunder. I decided not to use Rain Dance and just use Thunder three times. It hit every time, and I knew that wouldn't happen every play through.

For a run to be optimal in these battle mode categories, you need to choose the mons that you want to use, since Colosseum has very limited options, hope that they have perfect IV's in the desired stats, and attempt to EV train them a crapload until they get to either level 50 or 100, depending on the category.

It's quite tedious to even attempt to run this category, or get good at it. I can see why this category won't work for most people. Runners would have to be dedicated to the game to get a World Record, or even a PB. It's that tedious.

Tower Colosseum, Orre Colosseum, and Mt Battle in battle mode are, in my opinion, difficult, but fun. I've been playing those modes with mons that you can get in Colo, but genned with perfect IVs, and optimal held items, EV distribution, natures, and movesets to route a theoretically faster run. The bad thing is, without genning/save editors, you can only get these very good stats by breeding, which you can't do in Colosseum/XD.

For example, the very first battle in Tower Colosseum Singles always (For me, at least) sends out an Umbreon. That Umbreon's moveset I have known by heart since I was a kid; Mean Look, Confuse Ray, Screech, and Double Team. Not the best set, but it's a special kind of stall set meant to annoy the player. (I hate evasion boosting moves. I know Taunt is a thing, but I still hate it lol)

Luckily, a Megahorn from a choice banded, Adamant Heracross will OHKO it if it hits.

What does everyone think about this idea for a category? Every Colosseum in battle mode and Mt Battle vs 100. (Ho-oh%?)

With a 1080p monitor, the only thing I can think of is using an HDMI upscaler, while plugging the HDMI input to the capture card, and plugging the capture card's HDMI output to the monitor. There might be other options, but that is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

With a composite signal, you should use three splitters for each of the connections. The splitters connect to the capture card's inputs. The Wii's inputs go into each of the splitters' inputs, while a standard composite cable goes into the other port of the splitters' inputs and into your TV.

As for being compatible with Windows 10, I don't know. I still use 7.

I personally use an old game capture hd for everything, including PC games. (I still don't have a way of recording 3DS games lol) But the gv-usb 2 is a good, cheap option, I hear.

Though I think everyone would recommend playing any old game either on a CRT or a lagless gaming monitor.

You guys know what's hilarious? My laptop, despite being able to run Mania, the game runs at the speed of PAL Sonic 1, 2, and 3K with the music running at normal speed.

I transferred the files to my desktop (FX 6100, 8gb ram, radeon hd 7770) and it runs like it should.

The speed of PAL Sonic and speedrun don't go well together lol.

Since the PC version comes out tomorrow, (Yes, I can finally play it!) what advantages would PC have over console?

Loading times will be much faster, (If you have an SSD) and Mania isn't graphically intensive, so it can run on a bloody potato like my laptop lol. (Intel core i5 2520m, 6gb of RAM, 128gb generic Samsung SSD, Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics)

Assuming Mania will pull a Super Meat Boy and have a key combination that allows you to clip through walls, I can't think of anything advantageous besides instant loading.

Mania also has controller support, so I won't be surprised if some players use controllers instead of a keyboard.

For a controller, I plan on using a GameCube controller until I can build an all-button fightstick optimized for this game.

Why a GCC and not a PS4 controller? Gamecube controllers have a button layout similar to the Genesis pad, so I can swipe my thumb for 6-tap spindashes.

It's also easier with Tails to do the Casino Night 1 level wrap, (0:24, not 0:20) but that's an IL strategy. I doubt that would happen in SS runs unless someone really wants that sub 14.

There is also the Mega Sonic exploit in Oil Ocean 2. It's how you get the level wrap.

Sonic 1 has a glitchless category, but it's quite arbitrary. No zips, level wraps, or slope glitch, according to the rules.

Sonic 2 would be even more arbitrary, since it's a more complex game. Since it has mega sonic, Tails abuse, et cetera.

PC player here, but if he were to level wrap, he would need to go faster than 16 or so pixels per frame, assuming that a lot of things in Mania are similar to 1, 2, CD, and 3K.

Also, DarkSpinesSonic, the awesome player that he is, keeps screwing around with the game and finding new things, with Knuckles at least.

11 day til the PC version is released. I. Can't. Wait.

Thread: Last Story Category?

I can see why mods would think that way. The last story takes hours to unlock. Some runners could download a 100% save file and put it on a memory card, but assuming that said runners would play the GC version, not everyone has a modded Wii to put said save file on the memory card.

Glad to see what the top players/mods think about this topic. Personally, I'm more of a 2D Sonic runner, but I like to run the 3D games sometimes. (Mostly Shadow and 06, but I am interested in running Generations, maybe Unleashed Day Stages, and SA2 Sonic/Shadow ILs.)

06's last story is the same thing, just longer, and it has its own category. Probably because 06 is a more popular game to run, and it doesn't have a glitch that is basically an easy level skip.

In regards to CCG, there is a glitchless category for every pathway that goes by in-game time, so if this category becomes a thing, (which I doubt) that is always an option.

I know the last story is really short, but I wonder how well it would do as a category. Both any% and no CCG.
