@dhadha it's optional, yes.
that doesn't mean treating people differently is "good behaviour".
unless you can find an actual argument keep quiet,
don't want to hear from someone who forces people to "play perfectly" else they don't get to submit their runs.
you're the last person who should have any say in any of this.

I have so many issues with how widespread this behaviour is,
you're treating slower runs different than faster ones - it's a 2-class system.
The site should not support this.

If you want to run a 2-class system where slower times are less worth,
that's you - but the site shouldn't have to accomodate for something like that.

@6oliath6oliath
This should suffice then?
The settings on the game-edit page would be used as "default" when creating new categories,
so they're not going to become useless when something like this would be implemented.

Accuracy field would be governing the accuracy of timing used for the timing methods,
so if you want to track real time in deciseconds but the ingame-timer is accurate to the centisecond, you could.

(Although what I would add still would be a "allow time of 0" checkbox for games like Picross,
where the igt is only counting up in seconds and starts at 0, so if you beat a level in less than 1s, it would show 0s)

This honestly goes back a bit to when @ROMaster2ROMaster2 was still working on the code,
he planned to make categories govern their own timing stuff.

Issue is that the db stores times as s.ms, so to the server, a time put in as 3s 000ms or just 3s is the same.

I would've wanted more of a category toggle per timing method,
e.g. for games where ingame-time is only tracked to the second, but rta/loadless etc is tracked with ms.

The main issue I have with that is that a 5:54 would still be treated as a 5:54.000 by the site,
regardless of if it's set as .000 or not - the site essentially doesn't care for your little differentiation.

I'd suggest here using a --- placeholder, essentially acting as ".9999",
so a run w/o ms set would still appear above 5:55.000 runs, but below 5:54.999 runs.
unless you're actually inputting the proper ms, a run should not have the benefit of being listed as .000,
otherwise a runner might exploit this by purposely hiding or withholding the ms to gain a better placing when they would be placed lower on the board otherwise.

now, if we could also get that 000ms displayed, then we could have a wonderful world

depends on the game,
I know for Monster Hunter it doesn't affect the gameplay and loading doesn't matter,
but for other games, especially for games that are timed mainly RTA might ban it because of inconsistency to unmodded consoles.

only "popularity" filters the site has would be either "Sort by active player" or by total runs/players.

There's a multitude of things, like properly emulating lag, loading speeds, properly interpreting the game-code so the glitches work etc.

The more the application behaves like the real deal the better the chances for it to be usable for speedrunning.

and if you look at the few emulators for e.g. gamecube, ps2, switch and 3ds,
you notice their target audience doesn't care for most of those things.
they want to play their games in 4k 144fps regardless of if the console could do it.

but yes, if memory serves correctly, that is the reason.

I, too would love to see a solution implemented.

Pokkén Tournament, for example,
is named Pokémon Tekken in germany, and germany only.
Rest of EU got Pokkén Tournament.

(This is because the German name for Smallpox is Pocken, and phonetically Pokkén & Pocken are the same,
so to avoid people confusing it with smallpox, they changed the name to Pokémon Tekken for germany.)

Lv. 24 Weeb here,

I like action stuff like JOJO's, Fate & One Punch Man,
but my top stuff is either complete bullocks like Sky Girls,
and tear jerkers like Angel Beats.

(I'm not opposed to watching great stuff Like Death Note, *gatari & No Game No Life though)

I don't see a reason to make them active notifications, personally.
reddit etc. work fine the same way, as there's no urgency for those notifications.
if you're browsing the site, you're not gonna sit on one page for 3 hours anyway, so you'll get the notification eventually.
