Using LRT would make sense if the game didn't already remove the loading time and it didn't make speedrunning the game worse. I'll make a separate post explaining why it's stupid so I can go into more detail.

I'm pretty sure I have a better version of the dark matter one but I'd have to look. Either way they would like fine since the the site's style sets the max-height to 16px.

Intro

First off I want to say that nothing here is set in stone. I've wanted to add new categories and stuff to this game for a while now and I'm happy to finally have the time to do so. If you disagree with anything here, please feel free to let me know. Any suggestions or feedback, positive or negative, I would love to hear it.

My goal is to make sure that everyone can run the game the way they enjoy running it. Whether that be with hints or without, with mistakes, without mistakes, individual difficulties, and whatever else. The rules I've added were designed to support those play styles and there may be additional ones to be added, removed, changed, etc.

If you see something out of place, missing, etc. please let me know. You can message me directly, reply to this thread, or start a new thread.

Categories

Different categories for different playstyles and preferences. If you just want to rush through puzzles then Any% might be your thing. If you're like me and you want to try and solve puzzles then 100% is for you. Both Any% and 100% have w/ Autofill categories for anyone that hates manual note entry and wishes they could just skip to the good part (in my mind this is like the "No Intro" category for the Resident Evil 3 Remake).

Any%

Completing the puzzles as quick as possible is all that matters. This means that mistakes are allowed and speed is all that matters.

100%

Accuracy is just as important as speed. Unlike Any%, mistakes are NOT allowed so think twice before guessing.

Autofill

In addition to the two general categories there's also the w/ Autofill categories for anyone that prefers pre-filled notes. This category allows the Show All Notes setting to be enabled for anyone that likes to have notes pre-filled on new puzzles.

Irregular

Sick of the same 9x9 grid layout? Enough with all of the neatly arranged rows and columns. Put the sh-, I mean, stuff, wherever. All categories mentioned above can also be done for the Irregular mode.

Full video proof of the run is required.

Starting a puzzle can only be done one of two ways:

1. After Completing a Puzzle

• Selecting "Play Again" on the results screen

2. Abandoning a Puzzle

• Selecting "Yes" on the abandon puzzle prompt

For "Individual Level" runs either of the above are allowed to show that the puzzle completed was not previously shown/started.

For "Full Game" runs the first difficulty can be started using either of the above. Subsequent difficulties must be abandoned after selecting them from the main menu. This ensures a new puzzle is started for each and every difficulty in the run.

It's recommended to have a subscription to Microsoft Sudoku to not have any ads in-game. For mobile platforms this is included with Game Pass Ultimate or can be purchased through the Play Store or App Store. For PC this is included in both Game Pass Ultimate as well as PC Game Pass and can also be purchased separately through the Windows App Store with a Microsoft account.

Timing Method: Real Time

1. All difficulties must be completed (in any order, though ascending or descending is preferred)
2. Each difficulty must start a new puzzle

• You must abandon each puzzle after selecting the difficulty to ensure a new puzzle is shown

3. Time starts when the first puzzle is started
4. Time ends when the last puzzle is completed
5. (Optional) Show game settings after the run is completed

• Makes verification easier and only takes a second to open the menu and scroll through them all

Individual Levels

Timing Method: In-Game Time

1. Must include one of the two methods of starting a new puzzle

• New puzzle is started by selecting either "Play Again" after completing a puzzle or by selecting "Yes" to abandon the current puzzle

2. Summary screen must be shown

The following items must be shown (scroll through them if they're not all displayed):

• Difficulty
• Time
• Mistakes
• Hints Used

3. (Optional) Show game settings after the run is completed

• After the summary screen select either "Done" to return to the main menu or "Play Again" to load start another puzzle and open the game settings using the menu button.

Yes, if I recall correctly you have to be at 30 fps (or at least it's significantly more likely/easier at 30fps) and be shooting him the entire time i.e. whenever possible. The time when you'd stop shooting him before the plaga animation plays and after the first cycle when the main plaga is going away, when he's stunned from a barrel explosion, and all of the other times you'd normally stop shooting to let your gun cool down matter for the two cycle. Be already aiming at the main plaga when he goes down so you're not wasting any time aiming and you can shoot it the entire time he's down. You can time your gun overheating to be when the little cutscene is playing and a bunch of little things to min/max that by themselves don't make it a two cycle, but if you do enough things as optimized as possible that's the difference between the standard three cycle and the two cycle.

Also, co-op might be different than solo because one person can change their FPS before the fight (can't remember if it's host or client) but it's been a while since I've looked into it. I think it's still possible to do it solo, but it's definitely possible co-op. Unlike the instant bus explosion which just seems to be a fairly low chance and completely random, the two-cycle Ndesu fight is just getting good plaga spawn positions during the first cycle, hoping for the best attack patterns, and then not making any mistakes.

I only share the non-fails (more realistically "less bad fails") since it's significantly easier to do so. The fails are whatever I'm streaming on Twitch.

If there's a green herb on the balcony, then there will be an SMG for Jill to grab. If the green herb isn't there, you have to quit out and restart from the menu since it doesn't re-roll when you simply restart. Basically if you have a Green Herb on the balcony you'll have the SMG. It'll always be there and you can restart as many times as you want. On the flip side if it's not there, it will never be and you need to quit out and start a new game.

1. Start game
2. Look on balcony for Green Herb
3. If no Green Herb, quit out to menu and start a new game
4. If you have a Green Herb, shoot jars until you get a frag and restart from checkpoint until one drops

It's worth noting that it does have to be a frag grenade. You can't do it with a flash or incendiary unless you just want to practice the throw or something.

For the frag grenades, there's ~0.1 to 1% chance I would say. That might change based on the difficulty but for Amateur it's fairly low. That could mean that you get it first try, and it could mean that you'll go 30+ minutes just restarting over and over and never get one. It's possible to get two frag grenades but very rare. In order to make it more fun I look for other rare drops to pass the time. Flash and incendiary grenades are slightly more common than frags. Red herbs and magnum ammo are pretty rare though. I can't remember if I've gotten a red and green herb in the 3 pots that I break but I have hope that one day I'll see it...

That's all great news though and what I expected. You don't need to apologize though imo. I was pointing out earlier that run just as an example I meant nothing by it to the person who submitted it or verified it. I just was confused. Sorry if it sounded hostile that's my bad. I had to go through it in my head five times to make sure that I wasn't just being an idiot before I commented that. Wasn't meant for it to be malicious I appreciate all the mods here and mistakes happen on both sides. At the end of the day I don't really care enough about anything to get upset about it pretty much okay with whatever so long as it makes sense and stuff.

The event was just annoying having to put everything on hold. At least the giant pumpkin heads make it easy to spot the runs... so, it's pretty easily enforceable from your guys' side.

Is it safe to say that runs are no longer on hold? Sorry just want clarification because I don't see a post that they're no longer on hold. Want to make sure before I attempt anything. I have Discord and use it but I'm not super sociable so I apologize for asking for clarification here. If there's anything you guys need help with though I have a decent amount of free time and am happy to help out with whatever. Also happy to not help so no worries either way.

I'm going through everything working on documenting stuff for a (much) larger post about the way the game is currently setup for speedrunning, but I wanted to share this while I'm working on that.

I didn't see this mentioned in any of the guides here, but as part of my aforementioned (much) larger post I just re-installed the game using the instructions in the guide(s) here.

The main problem with getting RE5 to run is that the G4WL installer that's included with the game (`redist/gfwlivesetup.exe`) will not work. When you launch the game, the `BH5AE_install.vdf` (source | depot) file will try and run the default `gfwlivesetup.exe` installer. This will fail since it's an online version of the installer and you'll get this error message:

If you look at the log files the setup created, you'll see this line:

`(12:46:43) Download http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=201788 failed [Code:0x800c0008]`

This is because the file that `gfwlivesetup.exe` installer is trying to download is no longer available from Microsoft.

To get around this, you'll need an offline version of the installer, which you can download from PCGamingWiki here:

Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE 3.5.95.0

Also, I'm not sure why there's two guides that just reference each other, but they could easily just be consolidated.

• Why your game doesnt say 1.1.0 in the bottom right hand corner of the title screen
• How to update the game so it says 1.1.0 in the bottom right of the title screen

This guide also mentions you could replace one of the dll files the game uses, but that's not recommended as you're not actually resolving the dependency.

What to do if your game isnt opening after a fresh install

Obviously there's a million ways to fix any problem, but personally I don't think that telling people to download and replace the game's files with ones from someone's Google Drive is the solution. This is just one part of a much bigger problem I have with the way things are setup for RE5 speedrunning.

Happy to see they are on hold. Would be nice if they would add something to be able to play without the event, either an option or just separate playlists, but I doubt they will.

If you play offline the event is not active. You could still do solo/LAN runs then. You would only be able to use the base weapons and equipment though. That alone is probably too drastic of a change.

Good news, I downloaded the app and tied the WR. It took almost 10 minutes but, I submitted a video of the results screen as proof and you can view the run here.

If anyone else wants to improve their times the Brainium Spider Solitaire app has:

1. "Single Tap to Move" built-in by default

2. You don't need a card in every pile before dealing

The setting is called "Strict Mode" and is disabled by default

3. The difficulties don't match the Microsoft Solitaire Collection

Difficulties are 1 Suite, 2 Suite, and 4 Suite

4. All cards that are "movable" are highlighted

The setting is called "Show Movable" and is enabled by default
