Thread: Possible risk of damage when copying save files - possible variation in PC types?

Continued - I sent it early. Oops. But, the more I'm looking at bro_nids problem the more I see a different issue cropping up - the PC. Maybe it's his specific computer that caused it?

The spot, more specifically where we talk to the guard while we shoot at the cockatrice to prevent the timer from continuing - saves us like 4 or 5 seconds if I remember. Also, of course external tools would be a major difference, I suppose you're right about save game glitches being problematic to be honest. Hm. You're right, save editing would be too much of a branch off from the miniscule way we glitch the game. We'll figure out something else to make the ox more consistent

First thing: the speedrun already uses glitches. As a moderator, I'm gonna say that we already use at least 2 major glitches in the NG+ Run: Timer stalling and Duke Skip both are technically glitches. So, Infinite Oxcart would also be a major glitch and allowed in the run. Also, the events only started right after he copied the save data - he believes he did the process wrong and it seems to have bugged his game out beyond belief. More details are in the discord server

Fifth place speedrunner Bro_Nid had copied a save file which led to seemingly irreversible problems within their game. The Hydra fight seemed to have lost a flag that allows it to die in the first phase, the only fix being a usage of the Maker's Finger arrow which causes major time problems later on. Currently, it seems that copying save data can lead to permanent code corruption of some kind, as they had tried every fix imaginable and nothing had repaired this issue. If you're going to copy save data, you have to be extremely careful or don't do it at all - however, this also raises some questions about how useful it might be to do so if we figure out how to manipulate it to, say, stop the oxcart from ending its sprint.

Due to one of the players posting a thread asking about a Discord, i realized it would be a lot easier if we had one! So, I made one! Here's the link:

Read the rules!
Note that it is gonna be pretty empty at first, and likely will for a while but we shouldn't give up on it instantly! It's a nice place to have discussions! Easier than the forums too.

I think the biggest way to make BBI faster is removing the key obtaining
Also, assassin could be good. Only way to know is test it

@glasnonckglasnonck just to make sure you see this with the Seneschal - combining this and Dragon Door, this literally makes a run that has zero, count it zero RNG past the oxcart, which I'm working on, it will happen very soon. Considering finding an oxcart infinite sprint glitch somehow, but if that doesnt work, KanGenSai's find with the Jewel seems very very very good

I'll check out the video right away! And @glasnonckglasnonck you're gonna wanna check out some of the other things that were found. I'm still considering making the sum of best segments run, a community spliced run where all the best runs submitted get put together so we can see a rough fastest possible time

It is okay to post the URL! If it helps the speedrun, it'll even go into resources!

Wait, the Jewel of Vicissitude keeps the cow from losing health for a full minute? That's amazing! We use Ne'er do part every 2 kicks to effectively keep his sprint at max, but that could help in another way, i.e. with keeping the ox like that, there's no real need to stop for anything. Maybe it can be used to glitch the ox into an infinite sprint somehow?

Seneschal Insurance - Blast arrows, periapts, Cursed King's Belt and Barbed Nails. If you stagger him, he instantly charges his super-powerful attack.

Notes:
Finishing Maximilian too fast is inefficient. Reccomend waiting about 45 to 50 seconds in Maximilian's dialogue once you get Come To Court, or Aldous spawns on the top balcony, wasting in-game time.

New Duke Skip needs to be done quickly, or it fails. It is consistent but precise, with very little room for error.

Sleep to night when you first enter the encampment, mercedes spawns right outside of the door to the training area.

Enter the rift and dismiss rook - your timer dosen't move.

Throw your pawn off the everfall - it makes for a more consistent Dragon Door. On my channel there is a video for an almost perfectly optimized dragon door.

Whenever you need to guard skip - teleport to the portcrystal that takes you to Inkeep faster in the Griffin/sleep quests. Except for after the sleep quest of course. Guards always spawn right inside the door, saving a few seconds of waiting.

There is a difficult skip with the Duke, check out KanGenSai's Any% Record to see it.

This earned me the third place spot in the world with no refinement and only one reset.
Third place video now out.

Thread: Creating a "Perfect" Run Using Sum Of Best Segments

Started by: FlyoutfateFlyoutfate

Idea: what if we, as a community, edited together a theoretically perfect New Game Plus speedrun utilizing every known refinement and retiming it ourselves to see just how fast a speedrun can really be? I'm talking, like, glasnonck's intro movement, a staggerless oxcart, landing directly on the flameservant's throne, a no-mistake watergods altar, etc etc etc up to the brand new Duke skip, my Dragon Door perfect refinement, and Glas' Instant Seneschal Grapple. I think, if we were to splice at cutscenes, we could be able to make and time a seamless run of all the best segments in our speedruns and create a theoretically perfect run to see just how efficient this game could get with perfect RNG and perfect movement

My idea for getting 2 keys is starting a hardmode run, grabbing the key, leaving hardmode, and starting another hardmode run and grabbing the second key. From there, you have 2 void keys off the bat with any speedrun. Other than that, the sheer power of the ranger likely does outmatch the speed of the assassin. Only a ranger could destroy the gazer that fast, for example.

Shearing Wind, the third upgrade of Cutting Wind you get from the daggerist's jewelry set, is faster than running and used primarily in the New Game Plus speedruns. It is also unaffected by weight. I'm currently looking for a way to implement Gale Harness into the mix, but the casting time far outweighs any use of it - except in, perhaps, the Griffin fight. However, most speedruns are done as Strider due to the skill Mad Dash being used to ensure players dont accidentally kill an NPC in Gran Soren, so Gale Harness likely is out of the run

Thread: Game mods invalidating runs?

Started by: DisasterbateDisasterbate

I'll need to ask Glasnonck, but for now I would play it safe and just disable any mods that aren't purely visual mods, due to unforeseen complications dealing with Dogma's natural mod incompatibility plus the off chance that developers changed some things without telling their audience. I'm glad you asked us first! Do we know how exactly the stats are tweaked? Is it an actual physical number change like upping your strength or just an ease for the reader like a format difference?

What mods? If they alter the gameplay in any major way (world difficulty, any combat/AI changes, cheat mods etc) then I doubt they would be allowed. List the exact mods and what they do, and depending on what they are I'll provide you some answers.

Not a skip, but a great refinement.
If there's one thing I learned about the Gorechimera, it's that it isn't luck that decides how he hits you - it's your position. I have a video brewing where I get EVERY dragon door pressure plate on the first attempt. The catch: we've been routing it wrong, and we can't have ANY pawns. Follow roughly what I did in my video, and stay to the relative sides of the gorechimera, and he will almost always perform his paw attack which is perfect for the plates.
