Forum: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Wii)

Thread: Rules?

Started by: JeroenJeroen

There are rules as to when you can reset: when the announcer says "Finish!", "Time's up!" or equivalent after most events, when the announcer says "Game!" after 1v1 events like Table Tennis, or when the announcer says your placing after the Field events and Uneven Bars. Using 2 (or more) controllers is always allowed by the rules.

I'll do a run of this when I have time, but in general it's a good idea to ask for new categories after doing a run of it.

There are two categories right now, the full game in English or Japanese. The Rotom Rally isn't a category but I guess you can use it during a run, but I don't see how it would help.

All Events Max% is already a category for this game, but it's a miscellaneous category.

You can see previous runs on the leaderboard by clicking on Filter --> Obsoleted Runs --> Shown, or on a user's profile by clicking Show Obsolete Runs. There's no merit to having a run take up two spots on the leaderboard, as it would be unfair to everyone with a slower PB than your slower PB.

In Gen 7, at least, you will get minimal encounters if you switch between walking and running at couple-second intervals. It may just be coincidence, but I have been able to find a couple movement routes in Gen 6 and 7 games that for me give no encounters, so I suggest try everything.

In both 380 star and 100%, using multiplayer is definitely allowed. For Any%, it isn't explicitly stated whether you can or not, but I don't see a reason to forbid it. Mario% is probably single-player only because only one player can be Mario at a time.

Even if the WR is dead, the game is not. While I have moved on to other speedgames, this was a great first speedgame for me because it has easy tricks and glitches to execute. It is also my favorite game casually. I would recommend this game as a first speedgame because it is both very easy and very fun!

I don't think point-based ILs fit in speedrun.com, especially events like Uneven Bars and Shooting where there is a max score. There are already leaderboards for the point-based events at https://cyberscore.me.uk/game/1150

In Just Dance 2014, you can use Mojocoins to buy avatars as well as songs. There are 51 avatars that cost 5 coins, 9 that cost 50, and one that costs 500 coins. Do you need to buy the avatars, or just the songs? (And does this also apply to later games for which there are unlockable avatars?)

Thread: Any% Rules Clarification

Started by: DuraludonDuraludon

26 Jul 2018, 13:25

I want to run Any%, but I have a few questions.
The rules say to "unlock all unlockables." I see that in the other forum thread, you mention that we just need to unlock everything and not worry about achievements (which I presume means reach Mojo level 62 on Wii U or level 33 on the other consoles). Is that accurate? Do we need to play any of the songs we unlock?
The timer is supposed to stop when we get 5 stars on a song. How do we know when the song will get us to the required amount of Mojo? Does it matter which song(s) we play?
Lastly, would it be allowed to use multiple controllers and/or multiple people to make the run faster for the songs with multiplayer achievements?

Thanks in advance,
MrFun

Thread: Handling non capture card recordings

Started by: DetrophDetroph

27 Jun 2018, 02:00

Hi Detroph,
I did a run of this game recorded without a capture card, streamed live on Twitch. About this game, wartab told me that they don't require great quality, but they would appreciate it if the whole screen(s) was/were visible. Any parts of the game that require motion controls are given a little bit of lenience. If the Switch recordings are of the player's TV screen, I see no problem with allowing those runs. The only difference between top 5 runs and 100th place runs is that top 5 runs are looked at a little more carefully, but as long as players are not cheating and have recorded the entire run they should have nothing to worry about.

I hope this helps you!

Thread: Is the Extreme Rainbow Pack locked?

Started by: JustLeafy2003JustLeafy2003

Hi JustLeafy2003,
The Extreme Rainbow Pack is a pack that is only available when bought from the in-game store, rather than being included in the game after initial download. In general, DLC or in-app purchasable content is not allowed in speedruns. This also applies to the Green Pack, Blue Pack, 11x11, 12x12, 13x13, 14x14, and 15x15 Mania Packs, the Purple Pack, Pink Pack, Jumbo Rectangle Pack, and Kids Pack.
I hope this answers your question!

Started by: HexSpeedrunsHexSpeedruns

I only split once per world, plus after World Bowser-Train and the Map Glitch (once I started doing it). Plessie isn't that much slower than Cookie Cogworks, and it's certainly more consistent.
Were you looking for someone that splits on every level?

My first Any% run was a 2:05, and it didn't include fancy tricks like Map Glitch or Meowser Skip. Will that do?

SonicSam and Conmangamer,
How would an autosplitter work for a Wii/U game? I'm not familiar enough with autosplitters to know for sure, but it sounds like it would look at the game (or use something in the game's memory) to know when to split. If this is the case, would it look at my screen capture input?
I could theoretically go through a run frame-by-frame and make a timer on screen that removes load times, but I agree that it would be a pain in the patoot. If an autosplitter were to be created, we (or the mods) would have to change everybody's times.
Thanks in advance,
MrFun

Hi SonicSam,
Do you use LiveSplit, or some other splitting timer? I think it could help you figure this out, as you would be able to see which events you are losing the most time on, whether comparing to your PB, the WR, or any splits you want. I find that in events that I can't lose time on due to playing badly like Figure Skating or Ice Hockey, there is about a 1.5 second window of time-saves or time losses. While this shouldn't be making or breaking your runs, it would be interesting to see if the load times are variable, especially if the load times on Wii U are faster than Wii or not.
Here's hoping all of your time loss is just to your bad curing,
MrFun
