Just consistency. + It's not like it adds an accessibility problem since all languages are available (as opposed to Gen 5 and older)

Yeah, on top of being expensive af 3DS capture cards are basically indefinitely out of stock so...

But we accept any video quality as long as it's good enough to let us see what's going on in the game, so just pointing a camera at your top screen (bottom screen isn't even needed) is enough. And just a reminder that only really good times are required to provide video evidence (anything under 1:23:00 in All Cups, and the time limit for other categories can be found in the rules of these categories), so you may not even need any of this to have your runs verified ^^

I mean, you can't legally play Emerald on a 3DS, so I'm not sure where you're going with that

Since it's completely independant to the story, there probably won't be a category split, unless you can catch something crazy in the new areas that beats the game faster than current routes (since you'll be able to go there whenever you want after you first got to the Wild Area)

No, because that would allow people to choose that third option for new submissions, and that's... Not ideal.

Thread: Question about the language rule?

Started by: loxuloxu

(edited: )

That's not unfair, you don't even need to understand English if you play with notes lmao

Instead, that IS fair, because it makes it so that no runner loses or saves time compared to others based on which language they choose. And it also makes notes usable by everyone without having to change the name of the Pokémon/moves/items/whatever, so I really don't get why you're complaining here.

Plus it's not like the cartridges still come in only one language, every single cartridge has all available languages now (it's like that since XY came out back in 2013).

And if the issue is that you want to be able to understand the dialogues and the story, then I'm afraid you don't really understand what speedrunning means...

Thread: Regarding NTR

Started by: CyndaKill-SHCyndaKill-SH

Hello everyone,

We got a run submitted earlier today, that had video proof recorded with the NTR hack, which made us realize that although we've been saying for years that recording that way was not allowed, we never made a formal statement about it.

So there it is :
Submitting a run completed while recording your 3DS game footage using NTR is not allowed, due to inconsistencies in load times. This includes submitting these runs without video proof.

For those who would like to submit their runs with video (whether it's to comply with video requirement rules or for personal preference) and think NTR is their only option, please know that we accept any video recorded with anything you have, as long as we can decently see what's going on in the top screen for the whole run. So we're not preventing you from submitting with video evidence, we're just making sure that the competition is fair between all runners !

That's all for today, thanks for your attention.

Good luck everyone !

You could set your time to one minute earlier and go with -1:30.5, I guess...? I know it's not satisfying, but if your 3DS really is that slow then it might be your only solution 😕

Thread: New Leaderboard rules

Started by: CyndaKill-SHCyndaKill-SH

(edited: )

Hello everyone,

I want to announce several new rules for leaderboard submissions, that will apply on August 15th. They were agreed upon months ago, but while some of them have already been in effect since, they weren't officially announced. Time to fix this.

Let's start with what is probably the biggest change : video proofs. From now on, if you want to submit a run that is under a certain time, you will be asked for video proof for it to be verified and appear on the leaderboards. These time barriers are :
- 1:23:00 for All Cups
- 42:00 for Nitro Cups
- 41:00 for Retro Cups
- 9:00 for Mushroom Cup
- 10:00 for Flower Cup
- 10:00 for Star Cup (Glitchless)
- 9:30 for Star Cup (with glitches)
- 10:00 for Special Cup
- 8:50 for Shell Cup
- 9:30 for Banana Cup
- 10:00 for Leaf Cup
- 9:50 for Lightning Cup.
From August 15th on, any run under these times with no video proof will be systematically rejected. Runs that are already verified won't be deleted, of course.
We're conscious about the difficulty of recording 3DS footage, so obviously it doesn't have to be a perfect 4K video with screen recorded from a capture card ; anything that allows us to see what's going on on your screen throughout the run will be enough. Recording through NTR is forbidden, though, for inconsistencies in load times.
Please note that runs approaching these times with no video will also be treated with particular attention ; All Cups runs under 1:25 will now require splits to be verified, and so will Nitro Cups runs under 43:00 or Retro Cups runs under 42:00. Though track-by-track splits will be prefered, cup-by-cup is enough. And no need to provide anything extraordinary, a screenshot of your timer, a decent enough picture of your timer on your computer screen, or a splits.io file will do.

On to the second big rule, one that has already been in effect : every All Cups, Nitro Cups or Retro Cups runs now HAS TO BE SINGLE-SEGMENT. By that, we mean quitting the game between cups is now forbidden due to inconsistencies in load times between different generations of 3DS systems.

Last, not really a rule, just a "small" change on the leaderboards : runners who have 2 PBs for the same category, one with glitches and one glitchless, will now see both of these appear on the leaderboards, so that a new glitched PB will not make a glitchless run disappear, or the other way around.

That's all for today, thanks for your attention.

Good luck everyone !

Thread: Obsolete runs showing up on leader boards

Started by: Bony_ThiccBony_Thicc

(edited: )

It's completely intentional.

To clarify, it's not all obsoleted runs (which you could've noticed by watching a little bit more carefully). I just changed a setting so that a glitchless run won't obsolete a glitched PB from the same runner, or the other way around. That way, a runner who has 2 PBs for the same category, one with glitches and one without, will have both appear on the leaderboard (which can be pretty important for categories with major glitches like Star Cup) without having to filter glitch usage manually. Note that it doesn't have any influence on the rankings, since only the best run of the two shows a rank on the leftmost column.

And iirc, it was a request from several people in the Discord, so we won't change that back. But unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do on your end to have it appear the way it was before 😕

Thread: Any Rng manipulation found?

Started by: Bony_ThiccBony_Thicc

Yeah, you just got lucky, no way this was RNG manip.
There are simple manips on 20+ years old games, that require timed, frame-perfect and/or buffered inputs to work with a decent consistency (I'm thinking more specifically about Pokémon in Gen1 and Gen 2, just go watch how ridiculous Yellow Mt.Moon manip is), so unfortunately it just cannot be as simple as that on 3DS

It stands for "National Record", I think. Probably just translated from the JP boards when they got merged in here.

So the actual meaning would be WR/1st place now that everyone can sumbit a JP run ^^

It should be working with A+B+Start+Select, I do that quite often. Try holding the buttons for longer than you usually do, maybe the inputs didn't register simultaneously.

Thread: No Citra?

Started by: spindaspindaspindaspinda

Far more accurate =/= accurate enough.
We still find inaccuracies on Game Boy emulators we thought were perfect, while the Game Boy is about 30 years old. Pokémon Gen 3 runs completed on an emulator are hidden by default on the leaderboards because the available emulators aren't accurate enough, even though the console is 18 years old. DS emulators are universally known to not be accurate (running games faster than the original hardware) and the DS was released almost 15 years ago.
Given that the 3DS is barely 8 years old and that it's by far the console people have had the most trouble hacking and emulating, you CANNOT realistically expect Citra to be nearly as accurate as it needs to be to be considered as an eligible platform for speedruns. Please come back in 10 years, or with extended testing that proves Citra is running at a consistent framerate, that's both close enough to the 3DS framerate, and not higher than it.
Or just potato cam your 3ds screen for runs, we're also fine with that.
