Forum: Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver Category Extensions Thread: Is TwilightMenu++ acceptable for runs? Started by: MaxwithaquestionmarkMaxwithaquestionmark |
So the long and short of it is it may be allowed in the future but further testing is needed first. Before actually allowing it, it needs to be confirmed that the timing as you stated it is actually correct. The indication may seem that that's the case, but we'd like to be sure before actually allowing it. To further the point, the reason this is needed is that in the past there have been similar cases where it seemed accurate at first and then turned out not to be. Wii U VC injection is one that comes to mind, which turned out more inaccurate than expected at first. After all, a slightly higher or lower framerate would make a massive difference in the course of a run and it wouldn't be obvious to the naked eye. Long story short, not allowed yet but it may be in the future if testing shows it to be similarly accurate to other ways of emulation. If you're serious about wanting to run on it it might be worth following up in the discord and see if you can find someone to help test its accuracy (I admittedly have too little knowledge on this to really be of help here) |

I'll be honest that I'm not really sure if it'd be allowed or not. If it is then it falls under the "emu" tag since it sounds like it'd play similar to a flash cart (like major suggested). That said, I'm gonna follow up on this with the other mods to see how they feel it should be handled. If only so we can give a clear and final answer. |

I'm admittedly not entirely sure what your question is. Are you playing on console with a HG/SS cartridge or is it something else? Assuming you're running on console with an actual cart (which is how I'm reading it) the emulator rules wouldn't apply. If not please clarify your question a bit |
Forum: Multiple Pokémon Games Thread: Potential for a Gen 4 Category without the use of gen 3. Started by: MaxwithaquestionmarkMaxwithaquestionmark |
I used a regular DS for it, though to my knowledge this trick works on all DS systems (not sure about 3DS, though I'd imagine it'd work for gen 4/5). It's really easy to do as well: This works for everything that requires the day to pass. Swarms, safari blocks, the Curtis/Yancee trades in BW, the restaurants in DPP, you name it. The only thing I haven't managed to get to work are the massages from Daisy in HGSS, but that's mostly because the check is at 3pm rather then midnight. |

So the major issue with your proposal is that you don't actually need to wait 30 days. The safari blocks can be obtained much faster by abusing the DS clock. By setting the clock 1 minute before midnight, loading the game and letting it roll over to the next day while the game is on you actually get the game to think the day has past. Repeat 30 times and you'd have all the blocks. We used this a few times in our Catch 'em All (not 30 times, but still a few, iirc we needed 8 days to pass for the mons we wanted). So yeah, the game time can actually be adjusted to obtain safari blocks much faster. The only games where you can't abuse the clock was gen 6 & 7 to my knowledge, for everything else there have been ways found. Now to get back to your question, that would essentially mean that the only significant difference between your proposal and the existing category would be the use of homebrew software for the regi's. Personally not a fan of creating a category with just that difference for (hopefully) obvious reasons. |

I know this is a very late reply, I never check forums so I didn't see this until now. For what its worth, here's the notes I used to get started. I don't remember how accurate it is, but it should at least help a little. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o7JouAHYNaS2fz1DfIIBaDxtADaAui0zmqdTurtB0pE/edit?usp=sharing |

Could https://www.speedrun.com/tloztlonrs be marked as a Fangame please? It also falls under the webgame category but if I recall only one tag can be given. If more then 1 tag is possible I'd like to request for both fangame and webgame. Thank you |

Forum: Pokémon GSC Category Extensions Thread: [Category Proposal] Crystal - No Centers/ No Marts Started by: |
So here I go again, bringing another category over from a different gen. I'd like to do a request for the "No Centers/ No Marts" category for gen 2. The setup is similar to the one from Red/Blue seen here: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnrbyext#RedBlue_-_No_Centers__No_Marts The goal of the run is to beat the game (start to red) without the use of Pokémon Centers (including free heals) and Marts (including anything else related to shopping). General glitchless rules apply. Category rules would be as followed: "Timing is by RTA, where timer starts at New Game and ends as the last textbox is cleared after Red is defeated. You are never allowed to heal at a Pokémon Center. You are not allowed to use any skippable free heal, including: You are never allowed to buy anything. This includes from Poké Marts, vendors in the Goldenrod underground, the Game Corner and any other means that result in spending money. Having mom buy items for you is not allowed. You are not allowed to interact with the Mart vendors (for example to obtain the TM for Return or Frustration)." Video of a completed run: Name of the runner: Crrool |

Posted this at the request of entrpntr since I had already posted this in the discord as well. Requesting a category for Pokémon Crystal All Trainers. Similar to how All Trainers is being done in later generations this means beat every trainer in the game at least once. Rules: VOD of the run: |

Forum: Speedrunning Thread: I'd like the community's opinion on the best method to time a speedrun on a leaderboard I moderate Started by: GarfieldTheLightningGarfieldTheLightning |
As a runner of the game, let me give my 2 cents Personally I've always been a big fan of RTA and if it makes this much of a difference I'd be very okay with just going fade-out into the credits. It solves the issue without fundamentally changing the run (as most runners would need switching to JP which Id say isn't ideal if it's just about the credits). The credits are technically a gameplay section but the strat is "do nothing" for 10+ minutes which doesn't add much to the run and isn't particularly interesting either. It wouldn't change anything about the run except just removing what is basically more of a cutscene then anything else. If the concern is video evidence you could still allow the final time piece as it is now for times above a certain time. If the difference in time is static it wouldn't be too hard to verify either. I'm not a fan of this personally, but then I've never been a fan of not requiring full video evidence on a run in general |

As far as I'm concerned we can add a category for it once a run has been done, similar to what we did with ranger. Shoot me a DM with the VOD once the run has been done and I'll add the category |

Forum: The Site Thread: Leaderboards moderation requests thread Started by: |
Hello, I'm contacting you guys in regards to the leaderboard for A Bird Story (https://www.speedrun.com/A_Bird_Story). The current moderator hasn't been online in at least a month. I've attempted to contact him through the e-mail linked on his twitter (as his twitter hasn't seen any activity in almost a year). This has not yielded any response either. His twitch link is, unfortunately, a dead link so no other means of contact seem to be possible. I'm currently series moderator for the Sigmund Corp series (which A Bird Story is part off) and it is the only game in the series I do not have mod rights to. Would it be possible to be added as a moderator of this game as well? |
