Thread: Why are ISO loaders banned?

Started by: SlamBoltsSlamBolts

(edited: )

To chime in on this 3 month old discussion (lol), ISO loaders being considered as emulation should be more blamed on SRC limitations if anything. The only thing SRC lets the leaderboards auto hide is emulator, you can't do the same for other variables. So if ISO loaders were allowed, you would either have to go attach the emu label on them so they are auto hidden, or you would have to go something along the lines on how the 3DS Pokemon games handle NTR (separate subcategory that groups emulator and NTR together, for this case it would be emu/iso loader). Really, any time it is said that iso loaders are "considered emulation" it's not literally considered emulation, but rather their place on the leaderboard would be the same as emulator runs (ie hidden or separated from main runs).

Also, you can't reset the patch. You're stuck on 1.2.0+

(well, physical can technically downgrade, but it requires factory resetting the switch and never connecting to the internet ever again on that switch)

As a note, this glitch will be fixed in 2.1, and the glitched category will stop accepting submissions sometime after that is released (probably 30 days after release 2.0 BABY runs will be permanently put on freeze).

Slowpoke cinematic doesn't happen in runs. There isn't any timeloss for actual runs from the update.

It's essentially NSC ruleset, but with the added restriction that you aren't allowed to use Select Glitches.

Also minor note, this route only works on v1.1 of the game due to data shifts between v1.0 and v1.1.

Mostly just follow the guides for the respective games, also note the Candyfloss route for Sword is much more beginner friendly.

The BIOS files are supposed to be .bin files, the emulator will let you select a BIOS file after you attempt to load a ROM.

Hello, I am requesting Crystal Clear to be put into the Pokemon Fan Games series. For whatever reason it was put as a ROM Hack of Pokemon Crystal when the board was created (I believe it was made before that series became a thing, although I wasn't around then so might be wrong on that). I am currently the only active mod on the board, and the Super Mod has been inactive (has not talked in the Discord server since 9/29/2019, and doesn't respond to pings). Link to the board: https://www.speedrun.com/Crystal_Clear

EDIT: Apparently the Super Mod finally responded to DMs lol, he'll probably post here soon for confirmation we want to do this.

Thread: Is 3ds allowed

Sorry for the late response, but simply, no. There is no official 3DS release anyways, you'd have to build the CIA yourself and inject it (which is not going to be allowed). VC is an emulator and a very bad one, and only reason it gets a pass on the official PSR boards on official games (assuming glitchless) is because it's official and doesn't have framerate issues. CC doesn't pass that first requirement so it's never going to be allowed.

Any% No ACE simply uses the Duel Escape Glitch to get all 8 medals and beat the Grand Masters to beat the game. The Duel Escape is unintended ROM execution (where we can't arbitrarily chose), so it is not considered to be a "holy grail" glitch (e.g. ACE, ARE, AMC). You can find info on this in the Guides tab,

Any% allows such holy grail glitches (specifically, ACE, which stands for Arbitrary Code Execution). I found out a way to obtain RTA viable ACE in a run, and gifvex found an RNG manipulation and payload that allows us to beat the same in 3:30-4:00 minutes (including tutorial, so actual run is like 1:30 lol). No runs have been verified yet, but gifvex, TiKevin83, and I have runs you can watch.

You'd have to keep the timer running, the timing is RTA (standard rules for speedrun.com), which is single segment. Exceptions mostly occur for runs >24 hours but that doesn't apply here lol.

Thread: New Strategy for Curry Runs

Started by: CasualPokePlayerCasualPokePlayer

I've been testing different date exploits for the past couple of months, and I have a method to make Curry runs possible without relying on the "Invite Others" Raid Date Exploit (which is banned).

I call it Save Time Abuse, or STA. Essentially, the game saves the current time when you save the game. If you load the game and the time happens to be the next day, the game will advance the day once you load the file, which will also reroll the stock of the Food Shop. Simply:

0. Set the time around 9:30 PM (or however you feel you can complete Gym 3 and collect berries minus 12:00 AM, that's optimally when you would collect the remaining Food Items) BEFORE starting the game.

1. Save in front of the Food Shop you want specific stock for (probably Hammerlocke Hills) at 11:59 PM or less (doesn't really matter when, but you want to be fairly close 11:59 PM for the next step).

It should be noted that for whatever reason, going into the Home menu to quickly check the time can trigger this game's anti-cheat (I don't know why it does this, but this is Gamefreak so I'm not surprised). Using the Quick Menu to check time doesn't trigger it though (hold home menu button to access it).

2. Wait until midnight, check the stock, if it doesn't have what you need, reset, and the shop should have new stock.

Really, most of the shop exclusive items are in Hammerlocke Hills (the other shop has 1 exclusive item), so you'd be resetting the stock for that shop lol (there is one specific pool that gives you all the exclusive items).

Anyways, with these strats, no need to really use the (banned) date exploit to make Curry runs reasonable. Probably will post this in Cat Ext forums whenever those are made lol.

Thread: New Category with Online Battles?

Started by: VTMagnoVTMagno

Sorry for bumping old thread but wanted to point this out.

@asapaska-PovkaLTUasapaska-PovkaLTU They'll respawn if the clock hits midnight (without you actually changing the date midrun mind you, changing the clock BEFORE the run works tho). So if you time your clock change before the run correctly, you could do the glitch without violating the rules.

Of course this is moot as its way faster to just play this part legit (and also this "skip" likely won't work because the flag system), but if it becomes significantly faster to do a skip like this, then there is one way to do it without breaking current rules.

Should note that this rule doesn't apply to Co-Op CEA runs between the two Co-Op users (whenever Cat Ext and CEA become a thing, obviously).

I use that method and haven't had any issues. I recommend setting it up with an Ethernet cable so any stream lag would be limited to the your internet (and in case the router screws up, the Xbox will continue to stream the Switch's video and your local recording will be fine).
