Thread: Question regarding Refresh rate Update

there is, sort of. only really applies to the Axe in the mia attic fights and the circular saw (though not as noticeable if you're above 120 FPS).

The axe can 1 shot mia 1 and 2 if your frame rate is high-ish and stable enough.

Thread: OoB in Madhouse

Yo!

So the OOB does save time in madhouse, though not nearly as much as in Easy.

For madhouse NG+, I didn't do the OOB out of unfamiliarity with the run and was certain I didnt need to to get world record. Though I would like to see it's time save once worked in to the route, as I'm sure it will net a gold later in the run.

For madhouse NG, it was definitely 100% worth doing, even if it did NOT save time. I worked it in because of a few reasons:

1. you can basically guarantee you get to do the fast jack 2 with 15 enhanced ammo, as you get 5 out of the shelf to use before the fight.
2. you get shotgun ammo from this room early to help with ammo before marge
3. you get to avoid going up the side of the stairs with the molded on it after you come through the house on the second time through, when you would normally go to the basement twice.

I haven't timed it exactly, but it helps eliminate some annoying ammo RNG and does save a bit of time.

Hope this helps and GL! Hope to see you bring that time down if you decide to go for it!

Thread: Framerate Swapping and how it is counterintuitive to speedrunning Village

so, i'll throw my hat in here because I have some extensive experience with FPS swapping in both 7 and 8.

to touch on the comparison to 7, off hand I can count we FPS swap about 5-6 times in NG+ for reasons similar to why we do them in 8, with a few exceptions (jack 3 quick kill, bugs on marguerite door, etc). we are able to do this because of the lack of IGT counting while in the pause menu. (also, fun fact - there is a 30 FPS swap we do in the revelations speedrun as well which operates in the same time-pausing manner.)

we are not abusing the timer provided by toast in RE7, and I'm confident we are not abusing the timer built by toast in 8.

The difference is that, Capcom gave us a very VERY poorly built timer in 8, and toast had to build something that made sense to get around it. even if he had not, we would be using IGT which STILL would not count towards us if we used the pause menu for FPS swapping. And in 7, this timer was built entirely differently, but it still paused while in the pause menu.

in regards to the time it takes to swap FPS, it may vary on confidence in the menu, but i time myself at about 4-6 seconds for each pause interaction, similar to the time i do it in RE7. i dont think it's adding as much time as we think, especially because as it currently stands, we swap FPS in juts a handful of places.

on that note, there are places where yes, you can swap to 30 FPS and get around something and save what may seem like .5 seconds, but it doesn't work that way. similar to 7, RE8 runs DRAMATICALLY slower when you operate on a lower FPS, and it taxes very fast. so, swapping 30 fps to walk around Lady D, as opposed to a side step bait, does not likely equate (this is purely juts an example).

i think this is a non issue, and counting time while people are in pause is only going to punish more people who are utilize and finding new pause buffer strats or retries.

TLDR;
capcom gave us games that behave very awkwardly with FPS and more often than not, to the opposition of the player. FPS strats are what we use to combat that, and don't, in my opinion, water down the run in any way or negate the skill of the runner. RE7 uses it and the run remained healthy and competitive to this day. I do not think that 8 will be any different. I do not support unpausing the timer in the pause menu, it is unnecessary.

Thread: Interest in a "No-Intro" category?

Started by: TheCinephileTheCinephile

this thread was to gauge interest from what I saw, not a vote yet.

ZGL and Yossy have real mod experiences from this and could speak to the issues it would and has caused in the past and you took that as "console runner so it wont affect you".

they're telling you what's likely to happen if we decide to split the boards for no reason at all. it's not even remotely closed to an actually decent reason, it's just because you dont want to do the 5 minute intro.

hard disagree. shortly put, nobody will run it and we are going down a rabbit hole of "i dont like X section, please mod it out and make me a board for it." this would create unnecessary work for mods and accomplish nothing simply because you cant handle a 5 minute intro.

what ZGL said is completely on point and a very wise take from someone who has dealt with this exact situation in the previous title.

i'll TLDR this since i know it might take a minute to read this and since people have lives and jobs, i cant be fucking with that.

TLDR; no, its 5 fucking minutes.

Thread: Suggestion: Use RTA (at least for PC)

Started by: CursedToastCursedToast

to chime in, and piggyback off of what @CursedToastCursedToast mentioned.

i will correct what i've noticed, which is that some cutscenes apply to IGT. the correction is that ALL cutscenes apply to IGT.

in the same vein, being in the inventory, key item inventory and the Duke shop does NOT count towards IGT. basically, things are reversed from what they normally are.

i am in favor of RTA and load removals to address these issues, as the IGT is going to fluctuate wildly as it currently stands.

NGH is and has always been a meme category. a meme category that is inaccessible with strange exclusivity is super weird.

i am fully on board with these plans.

and this is just me, but hopefully moving NGH away from the main games landing page will hopefully help new runners start with the main game, as opposed to the 88% version of it.
