Thread: $200 in prizes for new IL records

Started by: BanksBanks

Full-game runs are a pretty huge commitment for this game, so I don't expect anybody to run them. But IF you do, and set a new record that stands through the end of March (as above), that's awesome! So I'll add some small prizes for those too:

- 50 USD for Best Full Human
- 50 USD for Best Full Orc
- 25 USD for Best Full Both

Additional rules for full runs:

- Timed from the beginning of the first level to the end of the last level, including loading times.
- Unlike with IL, you ARE allowed to save/load games within the same run.

Please remember to ensure that fog of war is enabled.

Thread: $200 in prizes for new IL records

I think Tides of Darkness could be a good game to speedrun, but there aren't many times up here now. It would be more fun with some targets and competition. To help get things rolling, I'd like to offer prizes to the best new verified IL (individual level) records posted for each level before the end of March. 🙂

Prize scale:

- 5 USD each for the top new times in Orc 1-10 and Human 1-10.
- 10 USD each for the top new times in Orc 11-13 and Human 11-13.
- 20 USD each for the top new times in Orc 14 and Human 14.

So if you managed to set new record times for every level, and nobody could beat any of them before the end of March, you would be eligible for all 200 USD.

These must be new runs, recorded and posted after this thread and before the end of March 2018 (UTC), and they must be the top in their category (per the rules below).

There are currently no rules defined for the IL categories. However, for the purpose of these prizes I will apply the following rules:

- Fog of War must be enabled.
- Time is measured from the last frame before the level appears, to the first frame after the victory message appears.
- You're not allowed to save and reload in the middle of a level.
- The War2Combat client is allowed.
- If I get a record instead of you, nobody gets that prize. (But if we tie, it goes to you.)
- If nobody beats a previous record, nobody gets that prize.

Prizes will be delivered by PayPal.

Tips:

- Don't forget to set the game speed to fastest.
- You can enter the cheat/chat/debug code "tigerlily" to enable level jumping, and then just enter "orc 1", "human 12", etc., to jump to a level at any time. (I don't consider this is a cheat because it's just used to go to the level, and doesn't affect gameplay at all.)

Thread: Mis-categorized run

Pardon if there's a different way I'm supposed to report these.

The run https://www.speedrun.com/Overwatch/run/y8qo1dny by @TheZombieMan16 is in the "PC" category, even though it's marked as being played on a PS4. It looks like a mis-click.

That would be reasonable.

Maybe we could also explicitly mention that using the "War2Combat" client (a version of BNE that's been slightly modified for portability, but plays the same) is allowed. (I think several of the currently-posted runs use it, including mine.)

I noticed that there's an option to disable fog of war. I assume that you're not allowed to do that, but we don't seem to have any rules. Can we all agree to at least add one to prohibit that?

Another question is whether we want to allow save/resume mid-run for IL. I'd be inclined against it, but I know some RTS speedrunning communities allow it.

Potential rules:

- Fog of War must not be disabled.
- You must not save/reload during an IL run. (TO DO: What do we want to say for full-game runs?)
- We suggest you set the game speed to fastest, but it's not required.
- Runs are measured in real time from the first frame after the (first) level has loaded, to the first frame after the (last) victory message has appeared.

Any thoughts?

Example: https://www.speedrun.com/Overwatch/Eichenwalde

The rules say to use IGT, but the list seems to be sorting by RTA. Is this something the moderators can fix?
