We will be making additions and changes to the leaderboards in due time. It's fairly safe to assume that we'll be adding Mighty and Ray mania mode leaderboards and an encore mode leaderboard. 🙂

You don't even have to mash. Just press the start button once the cutscene has started and it will move to the next level. 2 frame cutscene skips are no longer a thing. The only stage this doesn't seem to work for is Hydrocity 2.

The best way to get a leaderboard added for those categories is to get people running them. We prefer not to add leaderboards for categories that will only have one or two runs on them.

Yep, way too early to worry about anything right now. It's fair to assume the new characters will get their own categories but until we have the game in our hands we won't know what changes will need to be made 🙂

Cheers for the emerald change.

I'd like to see the naming changed to Patched and Unpatched. As has already been said people are already referring to runs being run on either patched or unpatched so it makes sense if the leaderboard is the same.

As for allowing all runs to be put in with unpatched I don't have a strong opinion either way as I don't mirror my runs and I'm primarily a patched runner that probably won't change to unpatch even if we get the ability to downgrade however I'd like to hear the opinions of those that do run unpatched. Would they prefer to have their own category (disallow all runs) or be included with all versions of the game? (allow all runs)

Not at this time. The reason Sonic and Sonic & Tails have an Emeralds category is because those runs have to finish and end on Egg Reverie where as Tails and Knuckles end on Titanic Monarch 2 however we are looking to add an "Emeralds = Yes / No" tab so people can easily see if a run collected the emeralds.

It fluctuates from day to day. Sometimes we get alot of full game submissions along side some IL submissions and other times there are none.

Usually when there is a new development, a new player decides to speedrun the game or the game is showcased at an event is when we'll see an increase in submissions.

Hey PRG_Smiget. Just tested this on PC to confirm and the only change that should have been made on XB1 with the special stages is that the UFO can speed up significantly if you get close to it at Mach 1. This seems to be an anti cheat mechanic put in but it's still possible to get all seven emeralds if you are going fast enough and bouncing off the walls should still work.

Again all this was tested on PC but it should be the same as far as I know.

Your run has been up for 1 day please have some patience. Remember moderators do this in their free time and the number of runs coming in is currently much high due to it being a new game. (I write this as I'm at work on lunch break)

Thread: SADX Ruling and Timing changes

Started by: ArgickArgick

OUTDATED: These rules are now outdated.

Hello everyone. For the past week the SADX moderators have been discussing modification and timing changes to the leaderboards

With thanks to Jellyfishswimmer/turtlechuck we now have a livesplit script that works with the steam version of SADX. Also thank you to everyone who provided an opinion on what should happen moving forward.

We have decided to go with the following changes.

Timing Method
The timing method for SADX will now be based on IGT and the leaderboard will default to this view. Please submit all runs with an IGT obtained using the script for the version you are playing on and a RTA time. A guide for setting this up will be created soon.

The leaderboard will be updated to reflect these new changes. Assuming the following is possible this is what I plan to do.

No existing runs will be removed from the board however if they do not have the IGT script running on the video they will not have an IGT associated with them. Current runs that have an IGT but also have CCEF will also not have an IGT associated as they are now void.

Although IGT will be what determines leaderboard position Speedrun.com allows you to view the boards by RTA should you wish to do so.

Modifications
SADX is going back to being as modification free as possible and you will need to learn to run with your chosen version's differences. All modifications for SADX except Input Mod / Xinput fix are now banned from this point on.

CCEF - If you wish to have the same functionality CCEF provided the steam version is now viable with the livesplit script as it keeps timing between steam and PC disk competitive.

63FPS - This mod is now irrelevant to the timing of the game so is being removed from runs going forward.

Ghost mod and all unofficial versions of the game are still banned.

Once again thank you to everyone who provided an opinion on these matters.

Yep as people have already said, you run what you want. I love All Emeralds and currently have it down to a 1:08:07. Hoping to take it lower.

GHNeko feel free to still run All Emeralds. There might not be a leaderboard currently but there are a few of us still running and submitting them. If enough of us do this then we might get the category added.

One question regarding the timing for All Emeralds. Where should that run end? On the last hit of the boss or on the fade out to white? Right now I've been timing up till the fade out and I'd like to get this established while I'm learning / running the category.

Hexaforce - This is what is being discussed.

Thank you everyone for filling out the form. I have locked responses to it. The other mods and I are discussing what the next steps for SADX will be however it turns out timezones and working make it really hard to have a live conversation so we are discussing things when we get the time. Please have a little patience and look out for announcements.

Hexaforce - It's a mod that has been brought up in discussion. I do not want to remove the ability to run SADX with your preferred controller however it is a mod so it was added to the form to get opinions.

ModifiedMonkee - From the SADX rules.

"No cheats of any kind, unofficial versions, or texture hacks are allowed for these runs. However, the following mods are approved for runs: (XInput fix and CCEF)."

Better SADX comes under an unofficial version and is not included in the approved mods list. It will most likely stay that way.

Thank you for the strawpoll and the discussion in the thread. I have created the following form to gather responses in one area. If everyone who wants to could fill it out that would be great but please continue discussing things here. Everything mentioned will be taken into consideration.

Thread: Modifications & Timing method reevaluation

Started by: ArgickArgick

Hello everyone.

At some point this weekend I am planning on having a discussion with fellow moderators regarding the current timing method and modifications that are allowed to be used on SADX PC version.

Thanks to JellyFishSwimmer we have a timer script for livesplit that calculates RTA as if SADX was always running at 60FPS regardless of any PC or OS differences. I am going to be discussing the implications of using this balanced RTA as the official timing method and what would need to happen to the leaderboard should we go ahead with it. (I personally do not believe it is possible to retime any existing runs however I don't want to dismiss them outright either)

As for modifications, there has been some discussion recently regarding Camera Code Error Fix and if it should remain or should go as well as the 63 FPS mod which would hopefully become redundant should we move to Balanced RTA timing. There is also the fog emulation setting which could be discussed at this point as well.

I would like to hear as many opinions as possible on both topics so we can make an informed decision.

Thread: [Important] The Future of Sonic Mania Speedrunning

Started by: KryppukKryppuk

I can see the reasons the mods have handled things they way they have. PC release and a potential patch could have a lot of implications or they won't have any, we won't know until they release so right now there little point in having the leaderboard active for 2 week before a known release.

There is nothing stopping people from running the game right now and keeping times or improving on their own times before the leaderboards here become active. Personally I've just finished a Sonic All Emeralds run with a 1:40:xx RTA since I'm not sure on the timing or the categories but it hasn't stopped me from doing it. If people want to speedrun Mania then they will regardless of the leaderboard status.

Unfortunately what you have found is a way to softlock yourself. When you get to Red Mountain you need to destroy the cage with the Kiki in it otherwise the level trigger for Red Mountain is not there and you are stuck behind the closed gate with no way to get back out except for reloading the story. If you can find a way to destroy the cage without the ancient light in a fast manner then that would be amazing but as it stands right now you need the ancient light.

Also you can skip the light dash shoes but you need to go into the sewers anyway to trigger the story progression flag otherwise you wont get the cutscene with the ice key dropping so you might as well grab the shoes while you are there. As far as I know you cannot get into Ice Cap as Sonic without the key.
