I'd appreciate a role permission specifically for users to post news, as those people don't overlap with the moderators for us.

Thread: Auto-Splitter for Factorio

Started by: TignassTignass

Sounds pretty cool. It's still hard to detect stuff like blue science which is mostly assemblers, when you improvised a bit and added another one previously the condition is like 144 assemblers or something wierd. Is there a chance you can detect something like "12asm that have set the blue science receipt" ? At this point is would be really useful.

Personally I would consider this a tool assisted speedrun and therefor not eligible for submissions.

Thread: Detect non-highlighted Twitch VODs

Started by: ThueThue

I can confirm that this is problem specifically with people that are new to speed-running and streaming that don't know about the auto deletion of Twitch VODs.

Thanks for reporting,

I wrote PM's to the runners, they probably did submit twitch VODs instead of highlights that got deleted after 60 days. Maybe they still have a local copy.

Thread: New rule: Version "grace period"

Started by: AntiElitzAntiElitz

A new rule has been voted on by the community and comes into effect immediately. This is to allow for running on a working version, if the current release is broken and a hot-fix is on the way.

Old Rule:
•̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶r̶u̶n̶ ̶m̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶p̶e̶r̶f̶o̶r̶m̶e̶d̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶a̶t̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶l̶a̶t̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶e̶x̶p̶e̶r̶i̶m̶e̶n̶t̶a̶l̶ ̶p̶a̶t̶c̶h̶ ̶a̶v̶a̶i̶l̶a̶b̶l̶e̶.̶

Replacement
• The run must be performed on a version that was the latest stable or experimental version within 48 hours of the start of the run.

Thread: Additional category extensions.

Started by: Player209Player209

@Player209Player209 The community usually refrains from adding categories that have no active runners yet. The categories are voted on by all Speedrunners in direct democracy. They usually pass the vote if we find at least 2 active runners in a category. If you want a category to be added, Speedrun it and it may be picked up by others and eventually be added to the leader-boards.

Started by: blazespinnakerblazespinnaker

Your observations are correct. Seeds 1 to 341 are variations of each other. After that every next two seeds are a variation of each other. This is confirmed by the devs and not a bug. any further relative seeds are not known.

Thread: Rocket rush category

Started by: petr.adamekpetr.adamek

No, i don't think this is true. Do you have any proof of that, or do you just call you own opinion "some people"?.

NewGame+ was added for exact the same reason. There where a lot of request for this category, arguing that people would pick it up once it's on the leader board. Turned out they don't. There was 1 submission to it in the past year. So even the people requesting it were not running it.
Additionally the community has voted on adding Rocket rush as a category just recently and it was overwhelmingly denied, since there is not a single speedrun of it.

If you are interested in this category, then start running it. If it becomes more popular, we may judge on it again.

Thread: Supply challenge speedrun

Started by: sheerunsheerun

Supply Challenge used to be a category. There were some submissions 4 years ago. We removed it like last year due to inactivity for over 2 years. It was superseded by the "Getting on track like a pro" category which became way more popular and seems to attract the same runners. There are currently no plans to add it again until it will be more popular again.

What a great post @AMBERLOVESARCHIEAMBERLOVESARCHIE. also to the others, thanks a lot!

Even though we thought and discussed about this topic a lot already you raise plenty of points we didn't consider yet. This will really be useful to find a great way of handling this problem for our community!

Thank you for taking your time to explain this, very much appreciated 🙂 !

Thread: Question about the "The run must be performed on the newest patch available on the platform you use at time of play." rule

Started by: AntiElitzAntiElitz

Hey,

So I am from the Factorio Speedrunning Community. We are currently having a discussion about our ruleset and are looking for pro's and con's of allowing older patches in submissions.

Currently we ban older versions, just as you do.
It be very helpful for us to see your though process and history of how you got to this rule and why you enforce it.

I'd appreciate if you could explain that in the level of my Celeste knowledge. I am person that did play Celeste a lot and did watch some speedruns and know the tricks and names of them, but I was not into Celeste speedrunning myself and I don't know about it's speedrunning history.

Thank you for you help!
Best's and love from the Factorio Community

Thread: Rules question

Started by: twinottertwinotter

(edited: )

Hey welcome,

this depends on the category you want to run. In 100% all reloads are forbidden (stated in the category rules), because you can abuse it to increase the global green circuit counter. However in Any% you are free to reload at any time. Just notice that the time is taken in real-time, NOT ingame-time. So any reloads will usually be unfavorable. Feel free to join the Factorio Speedrunner Discord if you have any further questions: https://discord.gg/EakEWTf

You are always free to run whatever is fun to you 🙂
Currently the community decided to not allow any mods in speedruns and we apply the same rules for everybody. I hope you can understand this.
