Thread: UPDATE: Friend Connection Timing Rehaul

Started by: AdamLikeScarsAdamLikeScars

I've been having a hard time trying to pinpoint when the fanfare starts, especially in videos with not-so-great quality, so I've changed the time ending to when your final score starts to turn dark right after it is being calculated. I chose this because it is the first sign that your score is final, and it is an instant and dramatic change in color so it is much easier to pinpoint the ending frame.

With that being said, I had to retime every Friend Connection run to align with the new rules. Some changes in ranking happened, but nothing of significance in my opinion since 1st-4th has not changed.

Emulators are allowed, they are just hidden from the leaderboard by default. This has been in effect since the beginning of 2020 but I may have deleted the forum post announcing it.

Thread: Updates to guides and rules.

Started by: AdamLikeScarsAdamLikeScars

(edited: )

I've made some updates for the past few weeks that I think would be important for you all to know.

I have moved some guides to resources and added a new guide, check it all out!

Along with the re-arrangements, I have modified the main rules. The updated main rules include the reset timing policy. This was established years ago by GamingLand but it made no sense to me until recently, so most runs that used restart in 2020 and early 2021 likely didn't face the penalty, and I apologize about that. If you have a run that was put under these circumstances, don't worry about it. I will start enforcing the restart penalty though.

I lastly added PAL names for 3 minigames and made the rules for all ILs look cleaner.

@BushNanBushNan Unfortunately, I believe that getting a tied bingo is too rare for it to be a speedrun category. I don't think it will see enough runners, if any at all.

Thread: UPDATE: Some CPU Difficulty Variable Changes

Started by: AdamLikeScarsAdamLikeScars

Hey y'all, so we just did 2 significant things to the CPU Difficulty variable. This was made possible due to some tests made in the category extensions leaderboard.

NEW VALUE: N/A
N/A basically just replaces the blank values. This makes the leaderboard more professional and easier to understand.

VALUES NOW OBSOLETE BY EACH OTHER
When the values obsolete by each other, only your PB will show up regardless of CPU difficulty. This makes the leaderboards look much cleaner. If you want to see an obsoleted run you did in a different CPU difficulty, you will need to filter the leaderboard by the desired CPU difficulty. I created a poll for community approval, and a 10 to 4 majority were in favor of this change.

I cannot confirm or deny if submitting runs through LiveSplit works, but there are alternatives for recording your run. submitting your videos with Google Drive would be a valid thing to do. It seems that you used that method for your Wii Play speedruns and it worked out. Recording your screen with a phone and having your LiveSplit timer on the side works too.

@CmdrCmdr good idea. I will make sure to add that soon.

@ScrapzScrapz unfortunately, after reviewing the run, I will have to turn down your suggestion. Sheep Crossing is a locked 60 second minigame and Jangle Wranglers is a locked 30 second minigame, therefore the only factor changing times significantly enough is Ram Jam. At that point, people might as well just run Ram Jam in the main leaderboard. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Balance Boat all difficulties, suggested by SR.C user bendersrus, will be added soon as well.

The purpose of this thread is to suggest adding/editing categories, subcategories, variables, and/or levels for the category extensions page. There are some rules/guidelines that I very highly encourage you to read and abide with.

GENERAL RULES/GUIDELINES
- In one post, provide your suggestion, and explain it.
- feel free to discuss suggestions, but I recommend doing this in the Discord server to prevent clutter.
- If your suggestion gets rejected, I will provide an explanation of why I rejected it. I still want the CE leaderboard to have some sort of presentation, this isn't an "add everything" type of deal. I will not delete the rejected suggestions so that other people don't suggest them again.

RULES/GUIDELINES FOR NEW RUNS
- You must have a video with your suggestion post. No pictures.
- I may require a set amount of different runners to run your suggestion with video evidence depending on how deserving I think the run is of being added.

We have category extensions now! https://www.speedrun.com/wii_party_category_extensions

The page is staying pretty barren right now because some final tweaks have to be made, I have a busy week so don't expect stuff like adding categories to be done immediately. In the long term, expect stuff not in the main leaderboard to appear (e.g. party games multiple players/controllers) and other stuff. For now, we can discuss category extensions stuff in this thread or of course, the Discord. I would like feedback on the theme, the current one is a placeholder unless people like it as it is.

Thank you for the suggestion, but we will not allow spliced runs. Spliced runs can be manipulated so heavily due to no recordings between races to where we can't trust the time that the runner claimed they got. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thread: What should the Jump Rope Jam score be to be considered a "win"?

Started by: AdamLikeScarsAdamLikeScars

Important update, I am no longer taking poll results for 2 reasons:

1. I'm starting school before the poll expires, I would like to get this over with before I start to get busy.

2. One choice is winning by alot of votes, here are the results as of August 8th, 2020:
15 points - 12 votes (Poll Winner)
40 points - 5 votes
0 points - 3 votes
35 points - 0 votes

Now that we have a point requirement to "win" Jump Rope Jam, I know all the goals to win each pair game, and everyone will be able to do "win" runs for All Pair Minigames and All Minigames. You can expect the rule changes to take place very soon, or perhaps right now. Thanks for voting in the poll if you did.

Thread: UPDATE: 1v1 Minigames Win Retiming and a New CPU Difficulty Option

Started by: AdamLikeScarsAdamLikeScars

(edited: )

I have realized that people found a loophole in the "All 1v1 Minigames Win" speedrun where they can get several seconds of timesave if they do Commuter Count as their last minigame and stop the timer when "finish" is displayed.

To align with the fast exiting rule for Commuter Count, I have retimed some speedruns so that they end when the actual passenger count is first displayed. As a result, Babalee loses his WR status to WiiSuper because there were less passengers in WiiSuper's Commuter Count minigame, RNGesus gets the best of all of us I guess.

We have also encountered a situation where someone started speedrunning with all 4 players but they would make P2, P3, and P4 become CPUs via Autoplay in the pause menu. We don't know the difficulty of these Autoplay CPUs, so I decided to add "Autoplay" as an option for the CPU Difficulty variable list. I will be adding CPU Difficulty variable guidelines in the Main Rules if at any point it gets confusing.

If there are other situations where people end their All Minigames run too early by a loophole, let me know in Discord or in this thread. Also, you can still vote in the poll if you haven't yet. Please don't vote again if you have already voted: https://www.speedrun.com/wii_party/thread/xjdig

EDIT: I have realized that it wasn't really a loophole. It was just a poor moderating job in our end.

Thread: What should the Jump Rope Jam score be to be considered a "win"?

Started by: AdamLikeScarsAdamLikeScars

(edited: )

Hello people. Me and Randomno are working on adding win conditions for Pair minigames so you all can speedrun All Minigames and All Pair Minigames with a win condition. We have figured out win conditions of almost every minigame based on what you need to do to get normal sized Mii's in Balance Boat.

There is an exception however, and it is Jump Rope Jam. This Pair minigame is not in Balance Boat and it doesn't have a clear win condition by itself. I have decided to start a poll to see how people really want to "win" Jump Rope Jam.

If you would like to participate in the poll, click this link: https://strawpoll.com/2wxxb2df6

ONLY VOTE ONCE PLEASE! The poll expires August 20th, 2020, 12:00 AM Central US time, but I may end it early depending on if a certain choice is winning by a big enough land slide, the poll gets exploited, there's a bug, etc. Questions about the poll can be asked in the Discord server or this thread. Have fun!

Thread: Can we do some races

Started by: llmi22llmi22

Getting Wii Party in big speedrunning events is something I've wanted for a long time. The issue is that we need runners who 1. meet the requirements to go to the events and 2. will show up to the events in time. We are still working on clarifying the rules (especially in the All Minigames category), so signing up for speedrunning events are a very low priority thing for us at the moment. I want to wait until all of our issues have been solved and all of the dust has settled.

Thread: i need clarification on individual minigame rules

Started by: SoloQSoloQ

(edited: )

Some of the minigame runs have rules that say that you can take a picture because the IGT is saved and displayed in the rankings screen (if it’s fast enough). If the minigame of your choice doesn’t have that picture rule, you should stick to recording a video. I may adjust the recording rules if time permits.

P.S. You are also totally allowed to record with a phone. Just make sure the whole screen can be seen and is totally recorded start to finish.

UPDATE: added recording rule to all minigame categories. The only minigames you can take a picture in are Cosmic Capers and Spring Time.
