I just rewatched all the runs and all of your retimings look correct. Really glad we're using this method now as it's so much easier to tell when a run is over.

I really like the idea of using the UI disappearing as an indicator. If it really is an consistent way to show when the run ends, for sure we can change the timing rules to be based on that.

Also, I'll probably pitch in a run of my own after we sort out this timing stuff.

Sounds good to me considering your experience with the game. I'll add you as one right now.

Thread: Changing the Timing Rules

I think it's about time (no pun intended) the timing rules were updated. I would have liked to have a moderator or two for this decision, but for now I can just try to get some sort of consensus on what the new timing method should be.

I think obviously the new method should be a visual not an audio cue, but because of the lag after killing the final boss along with the ambiguity of the explosion scene it seems rather hard to find a proper/consistent time to make the last split.

I think the most logical solution would be to have the time end as soon as the killing blow was dealt to the boss, but I know it can also be hard to know exactly when the boss will die while you're spamming the button to kill him as fast as possible. Seems to me like this would result in almost every run needing to be re-timed, but it hasn't been tested yet so who knows?

For now, I'm going to change the rules to say the timing ends after the killing blow. If anyone has any issues with this or any suggestions of their own, please either post in here, dm me on discord or better yet ask to become a moderator for this game so I'm not the only one doing this (I don't even run this game) (I have very little experience running this game compared to all you guys).

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Title^^^

Figured it's silly for me to be the only one that's able to control what happens with this game and its categories.

I agree it's tough to stop the timer using the audio cue, and I'm all in favor of changing it to something visual. I never knew the fanfare could change depending on how many lives you had, that definitely makes the timing method even more silly. I think final blow to the boss would also be hard and probably require a lot of re-timings, but it seems the most logical because it'd be the very last input given.

I'm open to talk about things like this regarding the game and I'm sorry for not responding to forum posts earlier. I'm not the most adept at managing a speedrun game so please forgive me.

I can't believe I never saw this forum post. I'm really sorry I didn't add this sooner, but for sure I'll make the category right now. That sounds like a really fun idea.
