Update/Edit: My run https://www.speedrun.com/2048/run/y92x1evz got denied for not showing touch, but this one doesn't either?? Also, on a side note, is there even a way to show touch on ios? I recorded with my phone and the only setting I know of is microphone on or off.

Someone PC’s can have a touch screen, so that’s why it’s put there.

There were about 4 other runs like this that got taken down because they didn't show touch. IMO this is a bit of an unfair advantage. I feel as if the differentiation should be between PC and mobile considering these versions are inherently different. There is no way to prove that JUST the touch screen is being used, especially with the way the touches are shown. There is a reason all of the keyboard runs are about 10x faster than the mobile and this is reflected even on the PC touch screen runs (albeit not quite to the same degree). That version can just handle inputs faster, to the point where there isn't really a point in differentiating the categories. If PC is the fastest for touch screen and keyboard, why would anyone want to run touch screen? It's like if I were to do a run of SSBB subspace emissary, but instead of using a gamecube controller there were two separate categories for gamecube controller and sideways wii remote. You could do it with a wii remote, but your ability to perform would be greatly hindered even though it is inherently the same game with the same mechanics. I believe the way the categories are now are the equivalent of comparing apples and oranges to someone with an allergy to apples; in that the orange is always the superior choice.

This game is stupid to speedrun and you're just gonna have to deal with it or you can always do your own runs and not submit them if it's that bad. It's not unfair that a touch screen run on an official version is being used by someone with the skill and patience to get WRs because you can use a keyboard for runs on mobile versions and submit them in the keyboard subcategory and if you have a touch screen laptop you can use that for touch screen runs. If you're absolutely sure the PC versions run faster or lag less (which in my experience mobile has ran more consistently) get a better phone if you can at some point or use the PC version.

I don't think this game is stupid to speedrun at all and that attitude is why more people don't speed run in general. If there is a win condition, it is viable for speedrunning. I know that what's probably going to happen is I'm just going to have to deal with it, and I have no problem with that because, after all, it's not my call. I just wanted to give my 2 cents on this issue considering I am not the only person that thinks this is a problem. Also do you have a source for a keyboard working on the mobile? I just tried it on the official version of the game and it did not work at all on a moto z2 force with a usb-c to usb converter (keyboard worked on the home screen of my phone but did nothing in game). The mobile version definitely does not move faster. Just speaking from a physics perspective, the act of pushing a button takes less time than swiping a digitizer. So, other than your defamation of this game as a speed game and your flat out incorrect assertion that you can use a keyboard on mobile, what was the purpose for your comment? Just to tell me to get over it? The way I see it, being able to run touch screen on PC defeats the purpose of having 2 separate categories in the first place. That is what I was trying to convey in my previous post and I apologize if that was unclear.

I'm pretty sure I heard from someone who might even be a mod say that you can use bluetooth for a keyboard but I don't have anything to test that with. I've also been speedrunning for 3 years, I ran this game for a solid day after playing it for 2 months and watching some runs. I run dumb games and RNG based games but simply, from my experience, 2048 is stupid to speedrun for the most part especially with PC having the thing with holding down the keys to go super epic fast, 2 mods even liked my post so your "defamation" point is just overdramatic. Lastly, I do get you're wanting mobile versions to be completely separate but what's the point if it's literally the same game?

everyone upset at my runs but they follow the rules ;(. Why is this?

Honestly I don't have a problem with your runs. I'm new to this board and am really just trying to garner understanding for why the rules are the way they are. I believe all of your runs are legitimate and honestly more power to you for doing as well as you do. My main qualm is that the keyboard leaderboards have basically been reduced to pure rng due to the glitch I was able to easily replicate in which you hold down multiple keys at one. It's completely random and I was actually able to beat the wr for 512 out of literally nowhere. I just felt a little silly doing it since I have "asd" in one hand "left right down" in the other and am operating the mouse with my foot. In a way, I actually agree with what you are saying Frikkinfriks14. The fact that this is the most optimal way to play makes this, as a speed game, inherently not very challenging and heavily RNG based. That's why I run the touch screen version for the higher tiles. I actually had to grind and improve to beat the wr for the 2048 tile and I had a really good time doing it because I have always played this game on mobile until today. It wasn't until I realized just how broken the PC version is that I was left yearning for actual competition, because the current system favors blatant spam over actual execution. In my opinion that execution/spam barrier between the PC and mobile is why I think they should be separate categories. It's two very different ways of playing the same game and I just really wish that was accurately represented in the categories which, at least for misc categories, is not the case.

You can do this spam that you refer to with the NKRO glitch on either PC or mobile. It depends on having a keyboard that supports NKRO connected to your device and not the device itself. The device you're using (PC or mobile) is irrelevant. What does matter is how you use your device - keyboard or touchscreen. This is why the leaderboard is setup how it is. The community was polled and was in overwhelming agreement on this.

Your feelings towards the triviality and randomness in the smaller tile categories is shared with other runners. The small tile categories have been moved to miscellaneous and may be further removed to the IL leaderboard in the future. The main categories remain, as the game was intended to be played, creating large tiles (2048+).

I don't currently have a point in this discussion, but I am curious as to why my newest runs have been sitting in queue for a week, but we obviously have mods active on the board.

If you guys can shitpost on how best to exploit a glitch, and whether or not small tile runs are cool or not, we could also be keeping the board up to date with current and active WRs.

If you don't have a point in this discussion, then don't post on this thread.

It's good to know that you think this is what shitposting looks like.

In case you haven't noticed, there has been much deliberation lately on what is legal, allowed, fake, etc. and we are doing our best to come up with a consistent system where the four individuals who have the authority to verify runs are verifying all of the proper runs and only the proper runs. Your runs have been waiting for almost 6 days. While that may seem like a long time, all runs submitted are intended to stay on the leaderboard forever so we prefer to be cautious and only verify runs appropriately rather than be hasty and make mistakes. Thank you for understanding.

Yeah, please be patient. I try to verify runs frequently but I don't have much free time on my hands. Also, as mentioned, we're unsure on what is against the rules and what is not so if I see a run and I think there's something wrong, I simply contact other moderators or wait for them to take a look. That's why it may take longer for your run to get verified. Anyway, I had to wait a month for my runs to get verified in some other games, so instead of complaining you should be glad moderators here are active and care about the integrity of leaderboard as opposed to some other people moderating other games. Have a nice day.
