I'd recommend running the diagnostics firmware to see if the cart has an issue. What you're describing sounds exactly like the issue I used to have with various practice roms. Mine detected an issue with the SNES PA. PA test is related to the B Address bus on the extension pins. Most likely bad solder joints on RA101, RA102, RA111, RA112. Redoing these joints actually resolved the issue for me.

You can find details on the warps in the Any% guide. It's titled Any% but if you open the actual doc it's for Magician Any%. The key point is just your horizontal position when doing the warps to ensure you end up in the right spot. You only have to jump for the first DSS activation, the rest are done from standing. It's also frame perfect so it does take some practice to find consistency.

Make sure your Dread file is on internal system memory opposed to SD card. I've also heard that even just having a SD card in the system increases loads but can't confirm. If you run the digital copy off SD card the load times are almost the same as physical.

He's on emulator and folks on the Discord have already dug into the game's code. They have things like damage and enemy HP display, etc

Nova Scotia, Canadastrizer862 years ago

I'm pretty sure they've already advised no go for an emulation category in the Discord. That said there are still folks that point a camera at the TV so if you don't have a capture card that might be a viable option.

What aspect of it was muted? There was a period of time where the title music would get muted but it wasn't due to a legit reason but because some idiot sampled it for his song, then fed it into the system. SM has been getting falsely flagged for the title music for a while now, and still was last I checked. I just try to avoid lingering on the title screen.

Looking at the current version dropdown for submissions (it may not be finalized yet), have we clarified where PS4 1.02 fits in at all since we know it's not the same as PC 1.0.2? I see the current Switch version listed as 1.0.6.

Nova Scotia, Canadastrizer862 years ago

Just a heads up looking at the PS4 v1.02 patch notes it's likely we'll be dealing with different version numbers across multiple platforms in terms of latest. Notes for v1.02 are PS4 pretty extensive and void warps no longer work so I'm guessing v1.02 included all the PC patches in a cumulative rollout. Last I heard Nintendo was still 1.01 but that's not shocking as I often see them lag behind on patch approval. Could be worthwhile to add what is latest for each version to the rules.

There may also need to be some nuance to the "latest patch" idea depending on future updates but I'm assuming you folks have talked about that. Like if we're not seeing any more major changes but something minor gets fixed, like a sound issue, I'm assuming we're not going to invalidate everything previous because the change is non impactful to the gameplay portion.

I saw discussion of changing them when the Discord was hit with multiple bots that were sending DMs to members of the server. At a glance I saw at least 20+ bots banned in a short time.

No worries! They've been very good with quick responses so far. I made Save Algus right now since it was easy. The Discord is a small community at the moment but we've already got a few folks doing runs not yet submitted. Feel free to join if you like. I know one of the devs is there as well & it's where Colt typically posts any news from his contact with them, etc. https://discord.gg/4mvtgm97mK

They are being discussed at the moment regarding rules. Coltaho has been working with the devs which is why IGT is functional for the main mode as is but it's still kinda borked for the other modes.

BK mode unfortunately rolls back IGT on death & doesn't stop IGT on final boss like the main mode. I have to double check Monster Mode. Colt is basically seeing if the devs would be willing to fix IGT for these modes like they did with the main mode for us. So definitely in the works, we're just awaiting the response so we know how to proceed.

Regarding Any% Bad/Good Ending I'm assuming you mean if Algus survives or not, opposed to ending A where you just hold left to walk right out of the castle at the start of the game. If so a "Save Algus" category could serve as a nice middle ground between Any% and 100%.

The board was just made last night a couple hours before I crashed so I just wanted to ensure I got some visuals up as well as Any% to at least have something over nothing.

It's known. Honestly if you look at any of the runs that include massive amounts of out of bound tech it's not a stretch to ask someone to believe you went OoB in this game. Pretty sure it was found and discussed in the Discord like back on release week.

There's also a whole forum thread about it here: https://www.speedrun.com/bsrotn/thread/3saz9

Not for submission to the leaderboards. Other folks run SM using mods to change Samus' colour for example but simply don't post the time (or I guess more accurately, not the video, as SM doesn't require a video)

But generally mods are discouraged simply because it's not about what you see, but potentially what you don't.

I'm aware of the feats as I finished them all in the first 2 days. That said, what you're now suggesting is a category that is half a stage (because the first boss is the mid boss of Chapter 1) and a couple minutes long when optimized. I'm not in favour of it myself but again as I mentioned, and 4d9r reiterated, if you want to discuss further Discord is place as the majority of the community has been active there since release.

Category suggestions are fine but should be made with a suggested ruleset and video of you demonstrating the run in question. Cyber Shadow has rooms where you are required to kill enemies to progress so a true Pacifist% isn't possible at the moment, even when excluding bosses. There are also cases where you could skip what would be an otherwise mandatory enemy kill with a small wall clip. I would suggest joining the Discord for talk about categories.

It also covers you for any future needs. It's my most used flash cart by far. Basically unless you are specifically in it to collect the physical games it will keep you from investing lots of money while also allowing you freedom to run almost anything identical to original. Plus recent firmware offers savestates for practice.

Added bonus you can also play things like randomizers.

To my knowledge mGBA doesn't have the frame counter. Likely due to it's lack of recording/TAS functions. If you're unable to use Bizhawk and will be using mGBA no frame counter is fine, simply display the FPS. It's under Settings > Interface > Show FPS in title bar.

Nova Scotia, Canadastrizer863 years ago

It's under "Resources". It's simply a modified rom to allow players to warp places, change their items, in addition to stuff like save states. It's mainly so people on console can practice, hence the mention of the SD2SNES/FXPak

I appreciate Daigon doing the legwork & think the idea of an emulated GBA slot option opposed to making the whole run emulated is a good middle ground. In all of the above cases the flash cart ties or loses out to an actual DS, and always loses out to DS emulator so it doesn't feel fair to denote the 3DS played on actual hardware as emulator in that way.

Can also confirm lag spikes happen on my R4 cart. Typically during phase 1 of Menace when he uses his purple breathe attack. I've actually started delaying my next jump in that case cause it was getting into the habit of eating my jump input.
