Wow! Great job clutching it out! Tough game, huh? Gg!
Fun addendum - after this run the legacy version of ROM stopped working forever........for some reason......
This video has been blank for almost the entire time it's been on the leaderboards.
Sorry! Oops! Wasn't for any reason. I just didn't know. Sorry for the late as f response, I just noticed this.
Wow! Thanks I couldn't find it. Very cool ill reup in a few days
So my personal sega cd is totally the culprit. I'm going to try to get a new one but as they are hundreds of dollars nowadays I think the misc category is perfect for the console specific runs. The board is up now. Elijah Miller still WR holder haha. Gl all.
So I just finished my first attempt and it looks like on average on my sega model 2 sega cd I'm losing 7 minutes per hour. That is fantastically insane. Forget about getting 1 final overall WR on console, I can barely sneak in sub Elijah Miller with my hardware. Wow.
I tried to contact 'wappon' the current WR holder but no response. Both of their WR videos are gone and unfortunately that means they have to be removed.
I dont want to erase history though so I thought I would at least document them here.
These runs were legitimate and they were the world record times when set. I personally watched the entire runs and verified them both. That said, video proof is necessary for ongoing rankings on leaderboards.
I hope some day that these videos resurface but for now they only live on in this thread :(

Wappon was the player who took this run to the next level. I worry there may be more data loss if not acted upon soon so if I dont hear back from wappon I plan on saving their walkthrough and adding it to this page's guides section. I will seek permission first, but my plan is to grab it soon just in case anyways.
Please be sure to properly archive your runs players! This stinks to have to do to a champion and Im sorry.
Hi,
I've heard a lot of talk about people being interested in the console version of this run and maybe some talk of people taking the emulator versions of the run less seriously. I dont see a need to debate; I think each run has its place.
The biggest issue I personally run into is when I reset on my ancient console it takes about 10 seconds longer to re-enter the game when compared to emulator runs. This happens across any different emulator I've used and beyond that my console itself will vary in its initial load time upon reset and can take anywhere from 40 to 50 seconds depending on....idk just how it feels like loading after being a console for over 25 years.
At this point Sega CD is starting to get a bit rough to run on. Mine makes big popping noises when entering new load areas sometimes (especially iluk and that area of the game). I dont think these issues will get less pronounced over time.
That said, I think runs on the actual hardware are pretty important. In fact I'm planning to take my next WR on console (if I can swing it). But I believe that will be the last WR (I can personally get) while running on console; after which I should be able to beat that run fairly easily on my next successful emu run.
So! My plan is to create a misc board that tracks console runs specifically as it would break my heart to run on console and get a new WR just to crush it instantly because of emu advantage after and have it disappear from the boards.
I'm not going to move any runs off of the normal leaderboard, im just going to create a misc board to keep the console runs visible for posterity.
Im willing to hear any POVs from the community on this and look forward to any responses! Thanks.
Nick
Okay... a year later and the rules have been posted haha.
I talked to holysmith and did a lot of thinking on what made the most sense.
I wanted to include stuff like using anything with a unique graphic/sound effect but...I realized no games do that in their 100% categories. That would be like trying to track every new unique dialogue that happens to all npcs throughout the game or something.
Anyways, here it is. Wish me luck. First run is finally actually happening within the next 4-5 weeks!
*Can be played on any version of the official release
Beat the game
Defeat all optional bosses (IE: Extra vile tribe members)
Defeat (at least) 1 of each enemy
View all optional video and audio cutscenes (including 1 victory in blackjack minigame)
Open all chests
Obtain 1 of each optional item, weapon and piece of armor
Gain all available magic for all characters (including Luna)
Obtain all warp-points
What is the policy on runs without videos? It looks like WR in normal ng+ doesnt have a video of their run. It seems like it was there at one point but is deleted now.
Ok edit -
These would be any%, new game + (good ending) and any%, new game + (bad ending), I think. That would keep them as simple and traditional as possible.
That means there's a normal (bad ending) category too in theory (as long as it still shows the hi score screen).
Either way it still would end at the input that brings up the high score screen.
Thoughts? Seems right to me.
Long story short we have an
Any% new game + (because of other saves used) AnD Any% (bad ending)
Okay. First off, amazing work. Congrats on the find.
The way I see it is we can step back from thinking about the loads so much and look at it from a perspective of what traditional category these can fall under.
These both show an end screen. With your score tallied. Okay I'm running late actually I'll finish this thought in a bit. Lol my b
That's a real good question. I've never delved into dosbox too much but seems like it's runtime is based on your personal pc. Oh well.
Until people care a whole bunch or someone figures stuff out further I'm gonna just say it's all the same. If you're running dosbox that's what everyone else used too.
If anyone is super interested in digging into the minutia feel free though. For now it all stands as legit imo
