I've considered leaving SR recently because of how poorly I feel the Mega Man situation has been handled.

New ownership could lead to new policies and new ways of handling current drama. I look forward to seeing how things unfold. Hopefully they don't let people get away with abusing privileges anymore.

Now that the Switch has made co-op DKC super accessible, I'd like to see a two-player version of the All Stages category added to the board in the same way that it's been added for DKC2. Would this be alright?

I disagree with Laseki's assertion that BurgAlert is a bigot, at least based on the screenshots that the Mega Man X community have provided so far. I also do not believe that BurgAlert specifically went out of his way to make anyone uncomfortable.

As long as the run contains no spice and the VOD consists only of good boys and girls playing their games, I don't believe censorship is in order.

I'd like to see a community vote on whether or not some of these moderators should remain in their position and whether or not they should be replaced by other community members. I think having mods serve terms from now on rather than stay in "power" indefinitely would be a great idea.

Showing both timing methods is definitely something we could do. Also, given that there isn't really a IGT in Twisted Metal 2 and the "IGT" that's been suggested is basically loadless times, I wonder if a load remover would be useful, much in the same way that Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy times their runs.

I appreciate all research. Research is good.

I'm not terribly upset at the idea that the original game is the optimal way to play. That's probably ideal for speedruns in general. Also, timing based on your suggestion sounds like a decent amount of extra work for everybody and I wonder if this game series is worth it, given its current lack of prestige and runners. That being said though, it's always up for discussion and I maintain that the best way to handle any potential changes to the leaderboard is by way of community vote. You are free to make your case, both here and in the TM Discord. Maybe you'll end up showing us a better way, who knows? - https://discord.gg/Sa56qR

If you decide to use a placeholder date, you could go with the release date of the game and then add a mod note detailing the potential inaccuracy of said date. That's one option.

It could be as simple as they don't want to have to perform double the work. Moderating one leaderboard is already enough of a chore as it is; having to do it on two different sites would be a pain for some people.

That being said, there's no reason to try to force any of the game mods from HaloRuns to participate on this site in that role if they're not interested. Any other competent Halo runner is capable of doing the job.

If you want to moderate a game's leaderboard, you can talk to the current moderators of the game about it by opening up their profiles and sending them a direct message. Most likely they'll only accept your help if you're a runner of the game in question.

If you want to apply for any staff position on this site, you can do so at this link - https://www.speedrun.com/staffapplication

In the same vein that there's nothing stopping us from making a spreadsheet leaderboard, there's also nothing stopping us from making an emulator-only leaderboard on Speedrun.com. The difference between the two is that the latter is much more convenient, quicker to set up, and it's what people are asking for.

It's been a year since the first post in this thread and none of the current moderators have participated in the discussion. I'd take that to mean they're not interested and a new game request for a DKR emu board would be the next logical step.

I'd like to see Any% added to Speedrun.com at some point. I have Halo 3 and wouldn't mind adding a run of it to my SR profile.

Is there a list of flag codes anywhere that I can see it? I'd be interested in taking a look at that and having access to it for future reference. [us] and [jp] seem obvious enough but there might be others which could be a bit more tricky. like Sweden vs. Switzerland which could both end up being [sw].

Hard to get a run on the board with no mods.

CriscoWild3 years ago

Yeah, you can't really go wrong with that idea. I think most people show the difficulty in their runs anyway. It makes things easier on everyone.

Thank you to Elehex, Cleartonic, or T3tsuya; whomever it was that added rules for Offline Story Any%. Rules are an integral part of a speedrun leaderboard and I'm glad to see my request was eventually taken seriously.

@Gamesfan34260 Maybe the run isn't optimized. You could try to beat it if you've got the free time. Give it a shot.

Sahailaway is a moderator on the Speedrun.com leaderboards for Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man X8. I've heard from at least one runner of the former that they believe Sahailaway's MHX run is faked. Given that and his not having logged into his SR account in three years, I think he probably shouldn't be modding either board.

Generally speaking, one of the prerequisites for being a verifier on any game would be to know the game well enough that you're capable of speedrunning it at a mid to high level. The first step I'd recommend for you is to grind out some dope PBs in all those games and show the communities of each that you're somebody they might want to pay attention to.

CriscoWild3 years ago

I think we've considered it, probably a couple of years ago when we set the boards up. I'd bet a bunch of us had a conversation about it at one point but I don't exactly remember; I'd have to look through the older messages in the TM Discord to find out. Personally, I like the idea of people competing with each other over times for seldomly-used cars like Twister or Grasshopper. That being said, I'd probably rather see them all on the same board than in different ones due to the lack of runners. If there was a ton of people doing this game, that might change my opinion.

I hope you decide to give this game a shot. Maybe you'll give us the new fastest time with Hammerhead or something :)
