Do i need to play the game to any certain point in order to 'unlock' the warp?

Is there anything else i need to do in order to be able to do it?I

I don't know too much about the Category but as far as I know all you have to do is play up to Rocket town where you can find Yuffie. I am not 100% sure about this though, and perhaps I am not understanding your question entirely... If you mean do you have to beat the game first in order to unlock the warp though, the answer is no.

You use save files and the recruitment of Yuffie to warp around by causing game overs in encounters... I am not completely sure how it works as I have stated, but hopefully this helps you answer your question.
