N64 vs VC (Versions) Part 2

Hello y'all. I'm writing an essay highlighting the differences between speedrunning SM64 on a N64 and VC. I'd like to ask yall... how do y'all feel about the differences of the two? Which one do you speedrun on and why? What do the "pros" think about either version? Ultimately, i'd like to know why the community is torn apart into these two preferences. Any opinion, preference, and viewpoint is welcomed! Don't feel restricted to those questions, I just want to know, what do y'all feel about the two versions and why you speedrun on the one you speedrun on?

Thank you!

I don't know if I'd say the community is torn between the preferences, at the top level everyone is on N64 and has been for a few years. If you're looking for interesting discussion topics about version differences I'm not sure SM64 is the game you want to write about. The most significant differences are just lag and loading. OoT (as an example) has more interesting version differences where certain speedrun routes are only doable on certain versions/consoles.

i'm pretty sure that calling the metal cap switch trick the shigeru drop is a misnomer. that trick has been known since the days of erivan and myles.

do people even know who erivan is anymore? ._.

at this point, all of the people who are "pros" play on console. however, it wasn't always that way. a long time ago, a vast majority of the best players played on Project64 v1.6. console became the standard in 2012, and emulator was the standard (if you could call it one) before that. there are actually a lot of really important players who played on emulator that are forgotten because people are dumb and are apparently only capable of parroting retarded memes. it is what it is, i guess. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

no runner with any self-respect would run on VC. you could make the arguement that "it's faster xd" or some other stupid shit, but the gc controller wasn't mapped out well for SM64 on VC.

this isn't really a good topic since VC was never really relevant.
