11 Exit Sub Categories

Hey, I think the run types for 11 exits should be in "Sub categories" instead of extra variables for some who prefer to not use certain tricks to get through 11 exits faster. Like me, I like to beat all 11 levels as fast as I can without using any crazy glitches. I think that should apply for 96 exits there are now really crazy glitches to get through some levels quicker, such as duplicating blocks for Yoshi wings.

The idea of "Glitchless" or "No Major Glitches" has a much larger role in 11 Exit categories than it does in 96 though. Going from 11 Exit NMG to Cloud cuts off about 10% of the overall time, which is extremely significant. However, in 96 Exit, VD1, Gnarly, and Tubular wings combined save less than 2 minutes. You can still easily get a 1:26 or 1:27 time without those wings if you do everything else well.

we used to seperate 11 Exit with cloud and 11 Exit NMG, but there is no point. it's just a faster strat which saves a significant amount of time, so if you don't want to learn it it's your fault.

Volpey, I think there is a point from separating. Many guys (including me) prefer a run that is clean from glitches and memory corruptions, and doing some hilarious glitches like Cloud is extremely hard and forces you to stay in the very first part of the game for while, which sucks a lot of time and makes the runner feel much bored from doing the same thing again and again with no good results, and even if the glitch is successfully done, the runner may screw up in the rest of the game. That's why I think many people go for Glitchless instead of Cloud or Orb for 11 exits. Only superior and skilled players that are going for the two other glitches. So, eventually, it would be fair enough if there are Cloud/Orb and Glitchless sub categories rather than filtering them on the same category, I think.

I think the leaderboard is perfectly fine how it is with some exceptions. If you don't want to learn a better strat for a better time, it's your fault, but I do think Seth's code injection run should have a separate category, be on the main leaderboard or be on a meme category imo.

mostly every game has one or two glitches which are hard to execute but they are necessary to get a good time. they seperate the dedicated runners from the casual runners. if you don't even want to learn those glitches and you are not able to get a good time, what is the point of speedrunning anyway? also i have been speedrunning 11 exit for a really long time now. of course the cloud may look hard, but it really is not. after a week of practicing you should have a down and should get it like 7/10. also this is just how this category is. be happy that it's in the first level of the game and not in the 2nd to last. also you are complaining about "Even if you get it, you can screw up afterwards"? did you ever do any speedruns? THAT is what speedrunning is. no matter if there is a hard glitch or not, you always need to execute well. this also seperates the dedicated speedrunners from the casual runners.

to me it just sounds like you want to get an easy top time on the leaderboards. but believe me. even if we would seperate it and there is no hard glitch at the beginning of the level, the same people would be in the top 10, just because they know the game well and execute everything well, not just because they are good at a single glitch.

Absolutely not.

Well, you beat me Volpey. The reason why I was complaining is exactly because I was trying to learn this category but I couldn't even get one single cloud glit.., oh sorry, I got one after hundreds of attempts and crashed the game several times when I was practicing it, so I thought many speedrunners would have faced that too. It just came in mind that it would be fair if there are sub categories under 11-exits and that's why I posted here. Also about screwing up afterwards, even if I didn't speedrun it, I screwed up a lot in just small and easiest things in many games I speedrunned, not because I can't execute them well but because I get stressed after some hard things or getting good RNG, that's why I have this fear from killing the run after hundreds of attempts on just the beginning and then do it all over again, this is another reason why I was voting for separating. But as you said, is here where we can separate expert speedrunners from casual speedrunners, and here where the real challenge is, and not only learning normal ways to clear the game, this is the point of speedrunning: Make the challenge harder and harder (to keep your rank solid and your time unbeatable). I got the point, thank you for explaining.

no run is unbeatable and every person can become an expert speedrunner.

Hey, why not removing run types at all, and we will be carefree. Then anyone who wants to do any type, it will be under 11-exits, Cloud, Orb or Glitchless it doesn't matter because it is all about learning tricks and glitches, but I just suggest here only nothing more.

The run types column is done as a favor to other runners, so you can see what strats were used to compare. Hard to find the best glitchless time so you can figure out the best strats without it.

There's no need for sub-categories. It's 1 category with 3 possible ways to complete it. That would be like breaking up an Any% category based on what route you took.

you could click the "filter" button and display only times that use what you're looking for. the ctrl+f method won't show gdf's 10:41 for an example

ammm excuse me did I miss somethihng? you can use the filter button, it lets you see glitchless runs only if that's what you want, it's pretty cool because it even shows "obsolete" runs from you and others so there you go, I'd agree with subcategories but SMW already has a lot of categories imo, so this filter thing works just fine
