Dumb Ways To Lose A Run

I'm sure we've all lost a run to a dumb thing like a glitch. Post a run (highlight) that you or someone else lost because of a glitch or something. It's would be ever better if the runner had no idea that something like that could happen.

I don't have a clip unfortunately, but I lost a pretty solid run due to my cat jumping into the blinds of my office...

in 40 winks near the end there is a glitch that is incredibly random. Sometimes it only takes a few tries and sometimes it takes 10 minutes or more. It works when it wants to and there's no clear logic behind the glitch. Anyways, I'm butthurt that I have become a better 40 Winks player than the current world record holder but I can't get WR because he got it first try. I FUCKING HATE THIS GAME but i love it too.

P.S. This trick is the reason I'm routing 100%

In Sly 1 there's a rare bug where in the final boss fight the game kills you for no reason. Frustrating.

In the Steam version of YHTWTG, there's a ~30 second section at the end where you have to enter a password by jumping through portals. If you accidentally mistime a jump, and go through the wrong portal, you have to go through the reset portal and start over again. YHTWTG Any% is a 5-7 minute run, so having to restart a 30 second section does kill PBs if the runner isn't focusing.

In Shrek Treasure Hunt when you forget to get the key in an area and you don't realize it till the end of the run.

In Lego Batman there is a level where you're in a boat and to damage the final boss you have to drag a mine behind you and fling it into the boss, except literally everything can get in the way and explode the mine prematurly. The boss' minions can blow the bomb up, the wall can blow the bomb up, your ally can blow the bomb up, hell even you can blow the bomb up.

Axiom Verge - 100% Items. When I first started with the category, I didn't know all spots for the Items. After some practise I did but still only had 99% Items, so I missed one. It took me quite some time to realize that I DID pickup all Items which are on the MAP. The item I was missing is only getting dropped by an enemy that I didn't took care of -_- lost 3-4 runs (each 1h40+ long) to that.

This is all from the same game Cadash on the TG-16 these didn't kill me but did derail me: Failing to get enough gold for final upgrade Failing to kill ONE last enemy to hit proper level Finding out THAT is where the secret door to a useless(for speedrunning) item is... Forgetting to talk to a dog to open a door Finding a glitch! Finding out the glitch makes the boss NOT drop the elixir I need... Forgetting I bought 4 antidotes instead of 5 and somehow used them all(Poison is not a guaranteed thing) Having the final boss whose RNG can make him hit you 0 times to NUKE go into Nuke mode for an entire week of runs... You bought more medical herbs right? Nope... But I was 2 min ahead and couldn't figure out why! That was Herb #7 right?(Herbs save you from death and give you back 10 hp you can only hold 8 total and after that dead=Game Over) Executive Decision! Level to 9 not 10! 5 minutes added to time and game over at the end boss... Number of times I have said "WTH He's never done THAT before!?" Innumerable.

I don't have that many number of video games and recently I only mainly play Resident Evil games, so from the perspective of a person who's fond of the games of the series I can point out the following factors for sure, as far as I'm aware of "how to miserably ruin a whole run of speedrun": ↓

1, Getting hit by the enemies you encountered on your way to the destination multiple times, if not only "once" or "twice" which loses you only some SECONDS instead of minutes - yet if you were striving to achieve an extraordinarily good record that moment, one such mistake of being grabbed by zombies, ganados, majinis / getting hurt by other creatures where you are supposed to get past as fast as possible by running past them etc. can be much more fatal than you anticipate it could be. :(

2, Getting stuck at several sections of the game by failing to solve the puzzles quickly, this is also as much crucial as being assailed by the enemies for some reason. In some of the games of the series it's all up to luck you have if you can get the things done without any delay or not, if you couldn't figure out the answer in the first try it's time to restart the game all over from the scratch which in some cases can make the whole game an unbearable task to pull off.

3, When you failed to go the fastest route possible with minimum number of items in your inventory, in earlier games of Resident Evil you can carry with you only 8(or less with some characters) items thus it's extremely significant to set your mind on which item you are going to pick up in advance before actually beginning a run, as well as the route to choose which saves you the maximum number of seconds / minutes it allows you to do so.

4, Naturally, when you failed to defeat the boss creatures in the fastest way with as much a marginal number of attacks / bullet-pumpings as possible - And in fact this can be the TRICKIEST part of the game at times when it comes to doing a "speedrun" where you're required to beat the game, literally, as promptly as possible. You surely need some amount of luck to not let the enemies fall upon you instantly / all of a sudden while you're still engaged in attacking the boss enemy with your fire arms.

I've made an attempt in a speedrun of Separate Ways of Resident Evil 4 several times already, in some runs I could beat Osmund Saddler(that's the LAST boss) immediately with the salvo of Chicago Typewriter within 20 seconds or two, whereas in some runs it took me more than 2 ~ 3 minutes just to knock him off with the same manner and it can easily get so frustrating because it wasn't me who was at fault but the game that kept me from achieving my goal in the most wicked way at the very end, obviously. :-( At times I feel sorry that I can't have any of the control over it, but I do accept we need that in a run you're going to give a try all the same as it is what makes the run more thrilling and the entire challenge more "challenging" worth you to ponder how to beat the game for some while / trying out some different strategies in order to seek for the best one which allows to get the challenge done in the most consistent way. :)
