can OBS record game footage and added overlays (timer, pics, tex, etc) separately when streaming?

is there a way to record separate gameplay footage from the rest while streaming using OBS or other than OBS that does that?

u can set it up to record locally if you look at the main settings just below where you put in stream key and other details.

I think he wants to record and stream at the same time and stream with overlays but record only the game footage without overlays, to have a clean video for upload to YouTube or something like that. OBS Multiplatform can already render multiple scenes at the same time, so it would probably be possible to add a feature to render different scenes for recording and streaming, but what he wants is not yet possible. You can however record and stream at the same time with different encoder settings (bitrate, quality etc.), if your PC is fast enough to handle 2 separate encoding processes.

If you use a capture card most of them have software that can pull the game its self and record it before it goes through OBS so you can do both. but I much rather just duplicate my live recording with a local, just encase something happens. Speedrun recordings should be as clean as you can get them with only the most important stuff visible: game + timer/splits.
